trees are my friends?

Grant was in the courtyard, leaning against a tree in his one size too big jacket. This was the first time he wasn't happy since he had come to Beata. He missed Regina and Roxie, no one in his new dorm was like them. They were so amazing, and they were fun to be around. To add to that, he had used all of his pencils, and everything he used to train. he had nothing left to do except sit around. He didn't know anything else he could do, and he hadn't really payed attention in any of his classes, and when he did he didn't really learn much. He felt like he wanted to drop out, but he couldn't. What would he do if he left? Injure or kill more people? He didn't want to do any of that, but he would have to if he couldn't control his powers. He let out a sigh, and looked up at the trees leaves. Hm... Maybe i could use those? He looked around, not seeing anyone, he picked himself up and reached for one of the leafs.

Regina sat from afar watching Grant, resting her head on her arm. She had been at this for a while, just waiting and seeing what he would do. She didn't show herself, for fear that he would find her behavior odd and creepy. But was all she knew, since she couldn't be too social with her powers holding her back, she learned how to do so by watching other kids from faraway places, like rooftops and trees.
She watched as Grant started reaching for a branch, letting her mind wander over what he might do with it. I suppose he could train with it, she contemplated, or maybe make something with it. Then of course he could be like me and just waste time with it... she chuckled a little as she continued to pick at the branch she was sitting on and kicking her legs out to stretch them.

Grant stretched his out his arm, reaching for the leaf. He felt his hand rub the tip of the leaf, but he didn't get it. He tried several more times to get that one stupid leaf. Finally, he got a little off of it. Just a quarter of the leaf, but it was still something. He sat down with a large smile as he looked down at the leaf. He held the small leaf in his his cupped hands, he had to calm down or the leaf would disintegrate in his hands and burn a hole in it. He held the leaf out by its tip, and waited for it to turn. He patiently waited for it, but after a couple minutes nothing happened. He threw the leaf down, and put his head in his hands. Maybe he couldn't use his power anymore.

Regina watched Grant's frustration at using his powers and couldn't help but smugly smile at the sight. If only my powers were like that, she thought to herself, kind of like an on and off switch. She watched him with curiosity and whispered to herself: "Now if only he could learn how to project his acid stuff..." It wasn't a half bad idea in her mind, that way it could really be used as a weapon, Unlike mine, which calls for me to get close to people, which I'm not really good at to begin with...

Grant wasn't sure what he would do now. His powers didn't work on any plants, well, he didn't know if they did work or not. He started shaking his head. No, no. I still have my powers, how could they just leave? It's impossible. They probably just don't work on plants, that's it. He wasn't ready to accept the fact that his powers might be leaving. Of course, it didn't seem like they could really leave. Grant looked around again, and picked the leaf up. Over and over he tried to get rid of it, but nothing worked.

"Have you tried sleeping?" Regina called down to the frustrated Grant from her branch in the opposite tree, "Sometimes my powers seem to go away for a while if I don't get enough rest, for my mind and my body."It was true, sometimes she wouldn't be able to break her own bones because she had been really stressed or had gone nonstop for a few hours, which caused her not to concentrate on her powers.

Grant looked around, he didn't see anyone. He could hear someone, someone he knew. He just didn't know who it was, or where they were. He looked up a bit, spotting Regina. He looked down again, and shook his head. "No, I've been awake for a couple of days." he replied. He had been getting bad nightmares since he switched dorms. He would always wake up in a cold sweat, and breathing heavily. Half of the time he couldn't remember what they were about. In the end, it got so bad that he couldn't even sleep anymore. The back of his hand rubbed on the tree as he closed one eye, his other eye close to closing.

"Well you should consider it..." she said rather matter-of-factly at the teenage boy. Something was bothering him, she could hear it in his voice. And she knew that with a boy as open and charismatic as Grant, something had to be causing this. Something deep, and painful...
"I'm coming down there, young man, and you are going to take a nap!" Regina said in a jokingly stern tone of voice. With that she flung herself haphazardly from the branch-- a good 13 to 15 feet above the ground-- and landed with a sickening thud, along with several agonizing snaps.

His eyes shot wide open as she jumped down from the branch. "H-Huh?" He actually felt scared of her for a moment. It was partly her voice, partly the fact that she jumped off that tree, and the rest of it was because she was taller than him. Yes, he still cared about that. "I-I-I don't need your help." He said. He tried to back up, forgetting about the tree right behind him. He looked around, hoping for someone to do something. Of course, no one was there. Well, maybe she wouldn't do anything bad. The way she said it, it sounded like she was going to break all of his bones or something. He tried calming himself down as he looked up at her. He was still breathing pretty heavily though.

Regina lay on the ground now; dead still. Not a muscle moved and not a hair twitched as she lay there. Her mind was blank and everything seemed buffered; sounds and smells were distant and Grant's presence seemed even further. But she knew this feeling well enough that it would soon end and she could get back to the important things at hand.

Grant wasn't sure what had happened really. Why was she just laying there? He slowly rose, and took a few steps in her direction. He crouched down and poked her back a couple times. "R-R-Regina?" he asked. He wasn't sure if she was dead. He wasn't sure if he needed to go talk to someone and get help, or see if she was dead first. Grant reached for her hand, hoping to check her pulse before he announced she was dead.

Regina's first sign of getting back to reality was feeling Grant's fingers pressed under her chin, checking for her pulse. She remembered how her mother would do this every time she saw Regina do this sort of thing, even though she knew her daughter.
Regina's bright orange eyes flew open at his touch. "Hey there." she said fairly casually, despite her body being in an intense state of trauma a the moment.

Grant fell back. This was so weird. She had acted like she was dead, but she really wasn't dead. She seemed dead. "Wh-What? How?" He asked. With the tip of his shoe, he poked her side with one eyebrow raised. "Is it you? Or did a demon slip into your body?" That seemed like a logical reason. She looked and felt dead, maybe she got possessed? "Uh, Regina?"

She couldn't help but chuckle as she started to wiggle the fingers of her right hand. "No, I'm still me same ol' self." she replied with a bit of a smile as she concentrated. She picked up her right arm, which was mostly unharmed, and used it to reposition her left wrist and pop the shoulder back in place. She straightened out her right leg, which had been strangely twisted from the way she had landed and pressed her hands against her back as she sat up. lastly, she corrected her snapped neck with a quick jerking motion and rubbed her jaw slightly to relieve the pressure there. "Good as new!" she couldn't help but giggle at the odd expression on Grant's face, "You'd think that after so many years of having my gift and doing stuff like this, I'd at least try and get better at my landings!"

Grant tried to say something, anything, but he couldn't. This was so weird. had she broken all of her bones before she fell, or when she landed? he let out a sigh, and said "You're a jerk." Why would she freak him out like that? What if she had really died? He laid himself back down on the floor, "So, you've done that before?" If she had, he wouldn't be surprised really. It seems like the type of thing she would do. Grant pulled his hood over his face until only his mouth was showing. He did this for one reason. He was going to ask Regina something weird, and he was already feeling his cheeks grow red just thinking about it. "H-Hey... I know this sounds strange, but uhh..." he couldn't say it. It was too embarrassing to say, especially since it was her he was saying it to.
