The Frontier [site event]

Groups of students will be sent to the Alaskan wilderness for a field trip that will double as an academic evaluation and teambuilding exercise. They will be expected to use their ingenuity, survival skills, and powers to survive for a full week in the rugged Alaskan wilderness with limited resources.

Basic Facts
The trip will take place in a wildlife refuge in the northeastern corner of Alaska. It is virtually empty, with no permanent human residents, and covers over 19 million acres. Summer temperatures average about 40 to 50 degrees. Native wildlife include caribou, moose, lynx, marten, wolverines, wolves, bears, rabbits, coyotes, musk oxen, and various birds and fish. There are no roads, cabins, or settlements, and the closest town is over 350 miles away.

Students will go in groups consisting of two to five people. Each group will be separated from the others by hundreds of acres and will not be expected to interact.

Students will ONLY be allowed to bring:

personal jewelry
a few spare changes of clothing
one blanket
an otherwise empty backpack or bag

Groups will be supplied with:

a chip of flint
a hatchet
a knife
tin mugs, forks, and a tin pot
one small tent

Students will NOT be able to bring:

books
electronics
personal cups, plates, bowls, or silverware (including flasks and bottles)
any camping supplies
pets
weapons
instruments
medical kits
anything not mentioned in the above lists

Groups will be expected to:

hunt and fish for their own food, or pick berries and roots
survive cold night temperatures
fend off dangerous wildlife, including bears and wolves
safely navigate the wilderness and rugged terrain
cure any incurred injury or ailment without any proper medical supplies

On groups:
So, Echo very helpfully organized groups already in a Random Stuff topic. However, these groups don't have to be official if you don't like how you were set up. Feel free to use this time to organize new groups or do whatever you want. This event will start either today or tomorrow. I'll say when. No starting without me pls.

Also, once the event starts, each group will start their own (separate) topics. No admins/mods will make it for you (unless they're in your group, in which case, those suckers probably will).

It's not too late to "sign-up" either (even though there were no real sign-ups). Anybody can choose to participate until the topics officially start, and even then, you might be able to jump in at the last minute. So yeah, consider it! It'll be fun.

[THE EVENT IS OFFICIALLY STARTING]
Each group will be flown to separate locations by bush pilots employed by the Academy. They will swoop low to the ground near clearings and riverbanks, throw your luggage into the snow, and expect you to jump out. There shouldn't be too much danger, but remember to roll when you hit the ground.

Remember, don't randomly timeskip without the rest of your group's consent, and don't try and smuggle off-limits items with you on this trip.

Monday - clear, with light wind
Tuesday - overcast, with light wind and sporadic drizzles and snows
Wednesday - overcast, with steady wind
Thursday - heavy fog
Friday - steady rain mixed with frosts
Saturday - steady hail, with severe thunderstorms that night
Sunday - rain, with steady wind
