A Tutoring Session

Subject: A Tutoring Session Sat Mar 01, 2014 12:35 pm

Connoven sat in a desk located in the front row. He was alone in the room, and the clock seemed to tick louder and louder with every second. He had asked the Gift Mastery teacher for extra help on his first goal; to control when he morphed. He hated just randomly sprouting whatever scared the person he talked to; it always scared away potential friends. It was quite a lonely power, one had to admit. He hoped this little extra help will give him control over that awful gift.

What must have seemed like an awkwardly long time of waiting in the afternoon, finally the click of the door was heard nearby, a lone person slipping into the room. Her green eyes found the student sitting in his desk the moment she shut the door behind her. "Connoven Devile?" The professor asked, walking up to him and setting her purse down on the desk next to his.

"Yes, ma'am." Connoven said quickly, standing abruptly. "That's me." his voice shook a little, but soon his heart rate slowed. He nodded, more sure. "Connoven is I, yes." Finally, there was his respectful voice that was slammed into his mouth over and over again by his parents. "Thank you for meeting me today." he added, nodding in respect for the teacher. Connoven grinned slightly, his white teeth almost glowing.

To be honest, Irene was rather thrown off when he nearly jumped up straight out of his seat. She stood staring for a second before smiling a bit. Damn, she wish her own child could show her the same respect, though there was something a bit off about his manner and smile that she couldn't be quite sure of. "Of course," The woman said, "Go ahead and take a seat. Tell me about about yourself."

Taking the seat as directed, he sat down. Nodding, he took a few seconds to think about what he was going to say. "Well, my name is Connoven Devile. I am 15, and I am a Nightmaric Morpher. I can't really control when I morph though. That's what I need help with." his voice was calm and even, his smile still sitting upon his face. "I've been doing good with my other subjects, but just not this one."

Irene gave him a thoughtful look, tilting her head slightly. "Nightmaric Morphing." She repeated softly, hoping mimicing the words would help ring a few bells. "Well, it's the subject most students struggle with. After all, why else would they come here?" The teacher said quietly, biting her lip. "Is there some sort of trigger to your morphs?"

"Not that I noticed..." he paused, almost like his mind was recalling everything he ever did. "Nervousness." Connoven corrected. He shifted uncomfortable under the gaze of the teacher. Almost like he was... guilty or something... His head shook and he looked back at the teacher. "I get nervous a lot."

The teacher gave him a certain look at his first answer obviously not entirely believing the young man. She dropped it and gave a small nod of understanding as he went on, "So, are you nervous right now?" She went on asking, "What makes you nervous?" People? That would be her guess, judging by the way he kept squirming around, she noticed, among other things.

"Yes, people. Animals. Situation. Events. Almost everything. I-I'm almost nervous." Wow, that was a lot for him to admit. A deep breath escaped his lips, and he closed his eyes. "I always feel scared." Would this work? He wasn't sure. But it definitely would be a good... Nope. You can't think about that this second, Connoven. As what he said wasn't an exact lie, it was a slight exaggeration.

Irene stared him down carefully for a few moments in thought, perhaps unnerving him even more than he already had been. "Your mind and it's resolves are weak." she said simply. Whatever his personalty was and however he was raised, it clearly did the worst for him. When it came to whether he or his power was in control, it was obvious who had the upper hand, and this wouldn't be easy to solve. "The fear you have of the world reflects on others and back to you. The only way you can control your gift is to stop being so afraid. Do you understand that?" Way easier said than done.
