Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptyFri Jan 22, 2016 10:18 am

Three weeks ago, it was the New Year. Three weeks ago, one of the other Cafe workers was sent on a mission alone by the school faculty.

They never specified how long he'd be gone or when he'd be back, but three weeks was a little much, wasn't it? Missions that lasted that long were generally reserved for students who were well advanced and comfortable in their own skin, and the staff certainly had chosen someone who hasn't been at the school long enough for a solo. It wasn't comforting that whenever she asked, no one tried to answer her questions. So she just stopped asking. After all, it really wasn't any of her business. Jonathan was probably more capable than he looked; he had a rare gift after all - power negation. She didn't know if it was because they had been working together for awhile - albeit never very closely - or if it was because he was a student in the house she was in charge of or if it was her own paranoia, or maybe even a mix of everything that made a growing concern for his absence kick in.

Perhaps it didn't help that the other cafe workers were constantly asking about him as well and seeing as Aspen hadn't seemed to be coming to work lately, she was the only connection they had directly to the school and could see everything firsthand. Day after day, they would ask her when he was coming back. All she could give them was a reassuring smile that everything was fine and that he'd come back soon... hopefully. Adeline felt awful, giving everyone a false sense of hope when she didn't know herself what was going to happen. Wait, wait, no. He was coming back. No sad or depressing thoughts.

Jonathan would march through the door any minute now with a thousand-watt grin on his face and enthrall the attention of everyone in the room, an imaginary shower of roses gracefully floating down the ceiling to announce his arrival. He'd say something witty to confirm it was him. That never happened. Not yesterday and not today. But maybe tomorrow. For whatever reason, she wanted to push to get an answer from Principal Wright or anyone else in authority... No, they must have reasons for keeping it a secret. Don't be a nuisance. It would get annoying if she asked. She'd been keeping her mouth shut after the first and second time, at the urging of the other cafe workers, but they hadn't thought about going for a third round.

Morning shift involved waking up remarkably early. 6:00 AM, work starts at 6:30. While she'd been getting better with taking orders and such, Patty had caught her red-handed in allowing people to manipulate her for price reductions. So, for the time being, she was scolded a little like a mother would to a child before receiving a task that would work more in her favor. Making cakes and decorating them was always fun and a little more enjoyable than it should be, but it wasn't much when there wasn't any interaction with the customers.

Maybe she should've taken a double shift today; it's already 10:16. The employees who would come in for noon were about to arrive and with the steady stream of patrons being halted at the door while everyone was switching in and out, her hands were wiping each table up and down. A visit to the infirmary was needed... she was running out of pills again. Common cold medicine, cough medicine, painkillers and stomachaches, and a few others here and there. Eh... what were the other ones she needed to pick up? In her stupor, she didn't realize someone was tapping on her shoulder and calling her name.

"Lamia, dear. Are you alright?" With a glance over her shoulder, it took her eyes a few moments to register it was Patty who was speaking to her. Blinking in confusion, she finally showed a reaction, immediately bowing her head in embarrassment.

The words were fumbling around, rolling off her tongue awkwardly. "A-ah, I-I-I'm s-so sorry...! I d-didn't know y-you were... uhm..." All she received was a hearty laugh in return, causing her to lift her chin up a little, her face betraying the puzzled state her mind was in.

"No need to apologize. I was just giving you one of the cakes you made today for a good job." Oh, one of the cakes? The statement made her glance over towards the box that was balanced steadily between her manager's palms. She wanted to say that the cafe should keep it since they might run short, but she found herself ambivalently nodding.

"Th-thank you..."

"It's no problem. Check in on Jonathan for me, alright? I miss that boy."

With another nod and a soft smile, she accepted the box and left the cafe, the chiming bell ringing with her exit. Tomorrow was going to be another busy day. Business was booming, as usual... maybe it deteriorated a bit after Jonno stopped coming for his mission. Keeping the box steady in her hands, she took the long way back to the school, through the forest and back. It was a lovely sunny day and the snow was glistening like little stars in the morning. How tempting it was to stop and look around at the scenery.

Long story short, she found herself at the infirmary entrance at around 11 or so. A bit of fumbling here and there, maybe a bit of coughing, and mostly drinking in every detail she could of the early morning sun. Beata really was scenic for a school out in the middle of nowhere, wasn't it? Pushing the door open, blue eyes searched for Logan or perhaps Ethan, but it looked like they weren't around... or perhaps she just missed them. Instead, a nurse greeted her.

The woman had spun on her chair once she heard the loud creeeak! with an angelic-soft expression, getting onto her two feet and reaching for one of the cabinets. "You're Lamia, correct? I have your medicine prepared right over---" Her eyes widened a little as she aimlessly looked around in confusion. With a small sigh, she faced Adeline again. "I apologize. I must've misplaced them all. I'll look in the back room."

"Oh, i-it's f-f-fine... I c-can wait." Her smile never died, and soon enough, the nurse had left for one of the rooms in a scavenger hunt for the many pills she had called to pick up the other day. She felt like a criminal, wandering around the infirmary. There weren't many good memories. The sterile atmosphere and white walls all reminded her of deaths and an association with the hospital. She was tired of watching everyone else die around her while she remained unharmed.

Someone else had entered the infirmary, though. Pushing past her - whether on purpose or on accident was questionable-, practically shoving her small figure into the cabinet and an unwanted gasp of surprise passed her lips. The impact sent a shockwave through the drawer and the one left open from before let the containers and plastic bottles rain down on top of her, the cake box sliding out of her fingers. Adeline didn't try to look up or find who had pushed her aside, only blinking.

Someone was certainly in a rush to see one of the patients and she wouldn't hold it against them if she happened to be standing in their way.

Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptyFri Jan 22, 2016 1:20 pm

Maria heard about what happened to Jonathan and rushed to the infirmary. Ya, she was a bitch most of the time but Maria felt that she should probably see him, for moral support. She planned to arrive earlier than she did but beauty of bros, right? Maria opened the infirmary door, frantically glancing around trying to find the boy. She had no idea what she would be walking into whether it be a dead student or a guy with his arm chopped off. Come on, calm down. She thought to herself. It's not like he actually likes you. Her thoughts turned bitter as Freya being his dorm mate entered her mind. That little brat. She won't get near him anymore. With her fists clenched, Maria walked around more, checking each medical station.

With her head turned the other way, the girl bumped into someone. "Sorry." The grumpy student said not in the mood for talking. Her gaze fell on the cake the other girl was holding and wondered the reason for bringing it. "Did someone die?" Before she could reply, Maria held up her hand. "Don't answer that. Are you here to see Jonathan?" It was the only reasonable question to ask. Not many students got hurt often or bad enough to stay in the infirmary overnight. "Guess we'll find him together?" Maria hated sharing, especially people but she honestly had no choice. What if he woke up and saw her fighting? What would he think of her?

Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptyFri Jan 22, 2016 2:23 pm

She was blinking again, noticing that whoever had bumped into her had apologized. Wait, for what reason? Adeline's head tilted to the side in confusion. The person who had run into her was the last kind of person that she was expecting to say sorry to her. Something about her held a proud and confident air, as though she knew exactly who she was and how she looked. The way she moved to the way she talked to even the smallest of gestures. This student was someone who knew that she was beautiful and boys would flock to her at any opportunity given and she took advantage of it. To say that she wasn't the least bit jealous would be a complete lie, but... fate would have to love her to bless her with that kind of beauty, huh? There was no way that would happen.

What, hold on. What did she just say?

...

. . .

.  .  .

Did someone die?

Did someone die?

Adeline couldn't bring herself to look at the other girl, her eyes immediately turning downcast. Nestling into her scarf, it was almost as though she were shrinking with the way she had her shoulders hunched together. The feeling of being plain and uninteresting sizzled and ingrained itself even further. Her mouth opened to say something but not a single word managed to escape, each one lodged in her throat and unwilling to budge, as though they were trapped in a sticky web, waiting for the spider to come and devour them until they were no more, never to be seen or heard from again. Why did this person have to joke about death? It wasn't something that they should talk so lightly of, but... then again... people probably found it funny.

Reaching over for the pink cake box that she had brought with her, her hand came up and used the side of the desk as a support to hoist herself back to a standing position. That was, until she realized that there had been a complete mess from when she bumped into the cabinet. The nurse didn't seem to notice yet. At least this other person didn't want her to answer that question... she wouldn't want to answer it but not giving a response would've been rude, but--- wait, what? Jonno? Was that the name she heard? She was bent down again, collecting the containers of pills and drugs that had cascaded from above to the floor. Something in her stomach seemed to sink and lurch with dread. His mission... He was assigned to protect a little girl from people who seemed to be kidnapping budding gift users.

He had been a bodyguard. It seemed inevitable that he would've gotten hurt, but it couldn't be that bad, could it? "I-I uhm..." How did this student even know Jonathan? And what made her suddenly jump to the conclusion that she was visiting him? There were plenty of other patients around, but... granted, she didn't even know he was in here. Nobody said when he would be back. How did she - a normal student - know that he was in the infirmary? Maybe it was just some silly hunch of hers... for all she knew, she was close friends with him. "Y-yes." That was the only answer she could come up with. That was the only thing she knew how to say in that moment that seemed to be frozen by time. But time never truly stopped.

Adeline quickly re-sorted the rest of the bottles until there were only two left in her hands. They were labeled with long names that she couldn't exactly pronounce, but... Eh? Where did they go on the shelf again? Her mind was all muddled, perplexity filling her violet-blue eyes. There were two slots left. 50-50 chance. Ahaha... where was Magic when you needed him? She didn't know where to put them. With a glance over her shoulder towards the other girl, she had to swallow down her anxiety. Don't make a mistake. Don't keep her waiting. Shouldn't be all that hard. Haha, yeah. Hesitantly, she placed them back with an educated guess, and spun back towards the student.

... She was so tall and practically a giant. But that didn't intimidate her. Sort of. She kept her smile etched across her features, hoping it was the pleasant kind. "I'm s-sorry to k-keep you w-waiting." Keeping the cake box cradled in her arms, she began walking down one of the aisles to search for the boy in question. Her medication could wait. The nurse wouldn't mind, right? It wasn't like she was leaving or anything, so at least said nurse could call for her while she was still here. Just don't have to wander outside the room, of course.

Some of the patients looked a little sick and pale, others were injured. Her eyes rested on one palm. 2 years, 11 months, 23 days, and 57 minutes. The next checkpoint hadn't come up yet. Maybe Kearn did something about it after all. Maybe it was 1 year left. How silly of her to forget.

Adeline scanned the vicinity and after what felt like an eternity, her eyes rested on an occupied cot right by the window. The cot that she was assigned to when Barry brought her back unconscious after the brothers' fight with one another. Magic had gone missing back then. She didn't see him again until that one night in the infirmary. This time, someone else was there... pink hair. Not many people had pink hair at this school. Carefully, she ambled over to it in an almost hesitant manner, looking over to the other girl who seemed to still be checking out the other patients to see if it was the right one. It couldn't be...

No, it was definitely Jonathan.

He looked terrible, broken and beaten up, tossed around like a rag doll. How did this? Why? The color seemed to immediately drain out of her skin and as much as she wanted to look away, her body thought otherwise. She knew missions could be bad, but this was far too much. Even the woman who could steal their souls away - with success with one student, mind you - didn't do this much damage. Sorry Magic, she was going to heal someone again after all. Logan and Ethan weren't around to do it right now.

"J-Jonathan..."

PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptyFri Jan 22, 2016 5:25 pm

Maria could tell the girl was intimidated by her and enjoyed the superior feeling. Unfortunately, she had to shrug away the thoughts as they searched for their friend. The two finally found Jonathan and both were shocked by what they saw. Maria was never one to cry or get mushy over seeing someone beat up, cause she usually did the beating. "You damn idiot." Maria mumbled. She stood where she was, letting the shorter girl by to examine Jonathan. "He had some sort of mission, right?" She asked curiously.

Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptyFri Jan 22, 2016 10:41 pm

The cake was placed on the nightstand beside his cot, and Adeline was fumbling around with her fingers or wringing her wrists or whatever other nervous tics she had were being used. With the way this other girl reacted, she must've been close friends with Jonathan or something... much closer than being simple co-workers with him. This was disastrous, a painful and sorry sight to behold. Once the ginger student gave her a bit of room to get closer and examine the injuries, it was even worse. Bullet shots, internal bruises, and all sorts of injuries that screamed fights and mortal combat that seemed inevitable. Being this close in proximity, she had to hold back a shudder from how low on time he was. So close to death and yet resisting it every step of the way. Maybe she should do something about it. Everyone missed him at the cafe and there were people who were concerned about him and worried sick.

Magic wouldn't be happy, but he'd understand, right? She couldn't let someone suffer right in front of her and do nothing when she could do something about it and fix it. A part of her wanted to place the blame on herself for his condition. With the conditions of the mission the way it was, it wasn't fair that they had sent a first-timer alone. She should've talked to the faculty and tried to convince them to have another student tag along as well, to lessen everything that happened. Too much. His entire stature betrayed an event that few could truly imagine to take place. A tragedy, a story with no happy ever after. It should have a happy ending... his story couldn't be over yet.

With the question the other girl asked, Adeline instinctively nodded, a sad smile etched on her features. "Y-yes... The sc-school told h-him to protect a l-little girl." Wait, hold on. How did this person know that he was in the infirmary but had to ask her what he had done to get into this condition? That baffled her more than the school's decision. More importantly, she still didn't give so much as a hint as to how she knew that Jonathan would be here. But that wasn't something she should question. If the staff that this person was trustworthy and was willing to give that kind of information to her rather than a prefect, then that was fine. She wasn't a very good prefect, anyway. I shouldn't be one. Whoever decided to give her the role must've had their goggles on too tight or something; she was one of the worst possible candidates to give a position like this.

An immediate silence fell over the room. Socializing and trying to speak to someone else wasn't one of her specialties. Don't get her wrong, it wasn't like she thought the stranger was a bad person - no, she must be a very nice and kind woman for coming to visit a friend like this in the infirmary in her spare time -, but her lack of ability to find the right words and form them properly into a verbal sound still needed to develop. A few times, she opened her mouth to try something, to break the gnawing silence, but it didn't work. What a failure, not even able to speak correctly.

Adeline shifted uncomfortably, her mind drawing back to the seconds that seemed to tick and pass by without stopping, never willing to slow down its chase, not even at the very end. One minute... two minutes... three minutes... It wasn't that long, yet it seemed long enough to last an eternity. Should I? What would Kearn think? What about Callum?

Her brother would probably be completely against it yet let her go through with it and know where she's coming from before proceeding to give her some of his own time. Callum would scold her and lecture her on how she should stop being a martyr and playing the hero that didn't seem to have any problems of her own, maybe even hold her back with his wind to prevent it from happening; to him, there was always another way without having someone get hurt in exchange for another - such an idealist he was. She had to stifle a small laugh, trying to imagine the little scenarios that might take place.

Glancing over at the other student, she took a deep breath and brightened her smile a bit as she folded her hands behind her. With what Kearn helped her with and the little buffer he gave her, it should take a good year, give or take, to repair all of the damage Jonathan had taken. Physical damage. Just the physical damage. She could not heal scars and wounds to the heart or repair burns that continued to light themselves aflame in the brain, bringing hell-ish nightmares with them. That was a fight on his own that she could never reach or interfere with. Why did she have to be so useless at everything?

Maria stood there wondering what the girl was doing. Did she have a healing power? She was curious to the girl's hesitation. She was shocked at the sight too, but knew sobbing and crying all over him wouldn't help. "You know that's not going to help, right? I mean, the worrying so much." She said flatly, arms crossed as she stood a little behind the girl. "I'm no expert at comas so don't think I'm crazy, but I had a thought. What if while Jonathan was in a coma and we think he can't hear us, what if he actually could?" Maria hoped she didn't looked like a weirdo but might as well share her thoughts. Besides, this girl was no threat. "So if he could hear us, don't you think we should be more supportive and motivational?"

Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptySat Jan 23, 2016 10:50 pm

Huh? What was this person talking about? Help with what?

If there was one way she could describe this student, it was possibly eccentric and a little strange. She was rambling on and on about something that her ears couldn't quite register, whether because she was speaking too fast or because she was too preoccupied in her own little world, she wasn't sure. Something about comas and supporting him. Adeline had to ponder on that a bit. Did she seem that depressed or anything? As friendly as Jonno and her were from working together for so long, no tears were shed. Yes, maybe a pang of guilt and sadness, but she was far more hopeful about his recovery that she might be thinking. The way whoever this was had been speaking, it was clear they've never had to experience a coma before.

That was good... being in a comatose state was not the most pleasant experience. Once this girl was finished talking, Adeline had to hold back a laugh - to no avail -, a ghost of a smile etched all across her features. She felt terrible for laughing at something that wasn't very funny, but it seemed funny. The way she got all philosophical on her out of the blue. The giggle had bubbled up her throat without giving her a chance to fight back, and her hand came up to muffle it, but it was short and terse. As much as she wanted to question this person's motives, it felt too rude to say anything. This must believe what they were saying was true and just, so she couldn't try and shoot it down or say anything that would remotely come off as offensive.

Whatever it was that the ginger was trying to convey to her, it almost went a little over her head, but maybe she got the point. Sort of... not really. Definitely not all. People didn't really hear anything when they were in a coma besides very dim and vague sounds that couldn't really be recognizable, only being an unintelligible mess of things. But that at least showed that she was kind and trying to be understanding. She must've had been a good friend.

Adeline's eyes trailed over towards Jonathan, the light rise and fall of his chest and the seemingly peaceful calm that seemed to have befell him. He wasn't one to deserve this extent of suffering; he was very loved and known at the cafe, and everyone enjoyed his presence there. Very well-liked, handsome, popular, witty, and quite the womanizer. He had this way of making people feel like they were important and significant and his smile certainly could cheer up anyone's day. Some random NPCs have also fallen madly in love with him and faint every time he speaks. Jonathan was wonderful to work with and stop to enjoy a cup of tea with over a friendly conversation... or as close to a conversation as they could get.

He shouldn't be in this condition. She made up her mind. She was going to do it. "U-uhm... I-I'm s-s-sorry, but... c-could... y-you uhm..." It was a little off-putting, trying to ask this person to move a little to the side so she could have more space. She'd get the message like this, right? Agh, finishing sentences was a pain. A sudden bout of awkwardness lingered in the air.

Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptySun Jan 24, 2016 9:20 am

It had been a social media post, one from the official Infirmary page. It was under the notice reminding people of visiting hours, in a small red box headlined with a shiny cross. Times New Roman, Jonathan C. Kent, some tiny-ass font. It was funny how insignificant a life looked as a petty couple of characters. Upon seeing the notice for the first time, Maisie actually smiled. She swiped past it to the next notice, but ended up going back. A pause, and a deep breath. What did he do this time?

She thought about visiting him. When the infirmary posted things like this, they never disclosed what it was exactly. She thought about busting into that room, where he'd probably sit with a broken leg or something, and almost kick it. Scare the living shit out of him. She liked to do that, because they never met enough and he seemed to think of her as mysterious, some kind of loose cannon or parental fuck-up. She did fall asleep on his bed once, however, that may have alleviated that. He was gone when she woke up. Maybe he just left without seeing her like that?

Was Jonno okay? Of course. That douche probably was complaining about a scrape on the knee as she read his name. She began to walk, leaving her dorm and heading to the dormitory. She'd forgotten a coat; coming out into the open air, she thought about going back for one, but instead kept going, hugging her shoulders. It was a bad time to have taken off her uniform sweater. She only wore the white undershirt, the tie loose around her neck, a skirt with only stockings to protect her legs. It was pretty fucking cold. It all faded away with a moment's realization, however, where she stopped in the midst of her journey, halfway to her destination. She breathed a cloud big as a continent.

He didn't visit her when she was hurt, however. Would she be the one he wanted to see there? Did he care about her enough for that? What a fucking asshole, that Jonathan dude was. Every time he saw her, he always looked at her with some kind of awkward glance, some kind of giggly nervous 'Hey, Maiz." Were they even friends? Did he even expect her to visit him? She could imagine him sitting there, on the side of his bed, mouth in a half frown, surrounded by all his sluts as he said, 'Yeah, she's annoying, but I can't get her away from me, she's too clingy.'

'She thinks I actually care about her.'

'I fought with her date just to ruin her night.'

'Watch the door, please, hun. Make sure she isn't coming this way.'

Maisie's pace quickened. She'd show that son of a bitch that nobody was above her. Nobody looked down on her. She was atop of everybody in that goddamn'n, good for nothing, shitshow of a school! Especially him! That no good asshole was nothing to her, was nothing compared to her! He was lucky she acknowledged him, for he was too low to even shine her shoes! The nerve of him! He would fucking pay. They would all fucking pay. She was practically stomping as she rushed past the crowds in the Courtyard, even pushing by some indignant students as she made her way to the Infirmary and threw open the door. The bell it chimed gave a startled call, like a rooster being strangled.

Then she stopped.

She spotted him by the party gathered around him, just two girls, the only visitors to the infirmary at the time. The place was half dark, bathed in the neglect of sunset, and she strained her eyes to see him. The heart monitor ticked seconds into the sky. Beep beep, she walked forward. She saw him, and inhaled. She inhaled her composure. She inhaled a blank face.

"He's looked better," she murmured, to no one in particular, stepping up behind the girls. She laughed silently without much of a smile. "He's looked worse." There was a chair at the foot of his bed, and Maisie took it, only the shuffle of its legs scooting slightly across the floor constituting the noises she made. Her bag rested on her knees. She exhaled.

Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptyMon Jan 25, 2016 5:23 pm

Yep, she thinks I'm crazy.

Maria gave a sigh and took a small side step to let the girl closer to him. Honestly, at this point she couldn't tell what the girl was doing. Was her gift some sort of healing thing? Or was she simply mourning for her friend. Maria leaned against the wall she stood next to feeling kinda...awkward. She wasn't the type of girl to cry over anyone injured, even if it was family. Tears meant weakness and that was something she couldn't afford to show.

She was even more surprised to surprised to see another girl come storming in. Well, why should she be surprised? After all, Jonathan was a player, but that's what confused her even more. Maria wondered why she had any feelings for him when he was most likely a total piece of fake trash?

Though she would have usually snapped at someone like the newly arrived girl, her gut told her to stay quiet. Right now it might be best to keep quiet. Just in case these visitors had a true importance to the boy laying on the bed.

Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rest in Pieces [OPEN]   Rest in Pieces [OPEN] EmptyTue Jan 26, 2016 10:55 pm

Adeline knew she was awkward and hard to talk to, but the lack of response was disconcerting. Keeping her eyes glued to the ground, she inhaled sharply before closing the distance between her own figure and the boy laying on the cot. From afar, his injuries were already evident, with the gauze and bandages wrapping Jonathan's body without leaving so much as an inch uncovered - it was almost impossible to see his flesh with an average gap. But this close? She found it difficult to keep herself composed with flashes of murder and the sounds of bullets shooting through her head. Blood, the beeping of the heart monitor synchronized with each second that rang in her head, signs that bones had shattered as easily as a vase that had accidentally tipped off to the side into millions of pieces, and bullets that tore the skin apart. He looked weak, sickly, unstable, and almost ancient, the slight rise and fall of his chest meaning almost nothing. Her lips thinned. This wasn't fair. He shouldn't be like this. Not at all.

Another deep breath and she mentally counted to ten, her fingers unlatching themselves from her fists with each numerical increase. Her eyes fluttered to a close. Okay, she could do this. There was enough training from the few times she had healed Magic and back when the airport was devastated left and right and then what Kearn helped her with. Reversing all of these injuries should be easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy. Sort of. This was different and new and dealing with gun-injuries was not something she had actually done before. But getting people away from death wasn't some shocking experience she hadn't had the grace of facing. It's happened before.

Her hand began inching towards one of his and just as she was in reach, someone else, she could hear their breath right at her neck. There was someone behind them. Retracting herself away from him as though something had shocked her and she had to flinch back, jabbing her thumb into her pocket. Adeline spun on her heel, giving a sparing glance towards the newcomer without so much as an attempt to meet her eyes, which seemed to be a striking blue from the millisecond that she managed to catch them. Blonde. The corners of her lips turned upward into a tiny smile as a greeting managed to voice itself out. "Oh... u-uhm... hi." She immediately moved out of the way to give the girl some space when the chair was transferred right at the side of Jonathan's bed. Looked worse? That was sarcastic, wasn't it?

Not the time to question it. Where was she again...? Oh, right. The healing. Using her gift in front of other people was fine, honestly, it was. As long as it wasn't the murderous portion of it, that was alright. So why was she suddenly feeling self-conscious? Right, right... The first student from before was almost looking at her expectantly, knowing something would come up from whatever she had been contemplating on the other time. And this new person must be friends with him too. Pressure was crushing down on her shoulders like a weight of bricks. She could do this. Yeah, yeah... And if you can't? Feverishly, Adeline shook her head to dismiss those thoughts. This wasn't the time for any of that nonsense.

But it's not really nonsense, is it?

Swallowing down her anxiety, she took a seat in another chair. Before she could change her mind, both of her hands clasped around the wrist closest to her, her thoughts flying out the window and clearing themselves from her head. Her eyes had forced themselves shut. A soft, honey yellow light began to break free, dancing at her fingertips and the tendrils formed eerie wisps, enveloping Jonathan's entire body and spreading across her back, almost like wings in that blissful moment. 1 month, 27 days, 8 months, 9 months, 11 months and 11 days, 1 year exactly. All of her focus went into touching the broken and repairing it anew. One year left. Oh right... the checkpoint wasn't until 6 months left, huh? Or maybe she got it wrong again.

Slowly, her fingers released themselves on by one and her eyes hazily reopened, seemingly void of shine and emotions for but a brief moment. The color seemed to have drained itself from her skin until she was as white as a sheet, her breathing ragged from a pain that was practically nonexistent to her unfeeling body. It worked, didn't it? A rough estimate of the time left in him wasn't so close to death. He had decades left on him; those injuries were just holding it back. They should be healed... hopefully. She didn't mess up, right? As if to reassure herself or prove her pessimistic outlook wrong, Adeline carefully pried off one of the gauze pads.

Nothing.

It worked. She actually did it.

Her smile brightened itself, partially out of her own success and mostly because that meant Jonathan would be able to recover and wake up soon. Or now. Or whenever. You got lucky. Lucky was right. Or maybe she was improving. Didn't really matter when that time was ticking away and eating her life off. It wouldn't matter once she faded to nothing. Nobody would care.

"I th-think... he w-will be a-alright n-n-now..."

Rest in Pieces [OPEN] Empty

Maisie watched her grab his hand, and tensed. She certainly didn't seem like someone Jonno would like. It was when Jonathan began to glow that Maisie stood. "The fuck are you doing?" she exclaimed, a statement that went unreturned, and she was too scared to pull her away in fear that she was a nurse. Was this what nurses did? Why did she wait so long to do it? When Lamia finally talked, Maisie was redfaced with a furious confusion, and though she went through many different insults and demands to react to what had happened, rested on a single, "Okay..." and sat back down.

Maria was surprised to see the younger girl and Jonathan start to glow but kept quiet. "So, is your power healing?" She asked curiously, tilting her head slightly to the side. Well, it must have been her power, for what else could the girl be doing? Maria could tell the newer girl started to get a bit frustrated and understood why. Apparently, both of them were close friends of Jonathan.
