Why did it have to be raining? Just when he was ready to explore the forest and work more on his tree climbing skills. James let out a long, dragged out sigh and flopped down onto the paved stairway outside the initiate's building. After at least a month of struggling to fill out the application form, not only because of the complex English but the illegible, horrible handwriting he had, he was finally accepted into the academy. This school seemed the optimal place to begin a better life in America and he happened to like it very much. And his apparent resemblance to the strange Winter boy he keeps getting mistaken for only added to his curiosity and excitement. Joseph Tseung. Those who know him stare in awe at James, an apparent clone of the boy, while for James, his only fascination is their shared last name. Although only his family knew his real name. Tseung Mi-nam was not a traditional American name, and if he wanted to make an impact in this new country, he needed a new identity to fit it.

Using his love of superheroes to create a secret identity for himself (not so secretly stealing names from his favourite superheroes), he left his family in a quaint, low paying apartment in some state called Maine. After struggling at a McDonald's in Manhattan for some time, he gained knowledge of a school for freaks. Freaks like him. Packing his bags, he left on a long hitchhiking trek to the school, this amazing academic building where no one would judge his abilities, only to have a week of rainy weather after his enrollment.

The Korean boy placed his arms on his knees, and shoved his round face into his palms. Glancing around, he watched the rain fall with a sort melancholy. Even in this strange place, the rain was identical to the rain from home. Everything but the sounds of nature filled the air. It was rather peaceful, but he still wouldn't for himself out today. Not in this rain.

Just as he was about to step inside, he heard the pitter-patter of rain hitting glass. Following the sound, he spotted a large dome made of windows with its own personal forest inside. His face lighting up, the black-haired initiate ran towards the conservatory, all the while stretching his arms for a good climb.

Once inside, he shook the rain from his short hair and stared at one of the trees. Pulling back, he charged up the tree, using his height to grab the closest branch and pull himself up. Heaving himself up with ease, James glanced around with wide eyes for the closest tree. Spotting it only a few feet away, he jumped and latched on to one of its branches as if he were a trapeze artist. Climbing up to a higher branch, he wove around the trunk, looking for his next landing spot. Just as he was inching his way across a thick branch, the sound of the door opening caught his attention and he turned to look that way. Not watching his feet, they caught on a stump branch sticking in the middle, tripping him and sending him down onto the branches below. Unfortunately, they were not very steady and cracked under his weight, sending him to the next set.

It took about four or five more collisions until he was on the lowest, thinnest branch possible for the tree. Grabbing on, he gulped as he slowly bent forward until the twig snapped and James flew towards the ground. Thank goodness I can't--

Landing face first, he groaned and pushed himself onto all fours. Glancing back, he gave whoever had entered a cheeky smile. They would probably be startled by the lack of wounds, bruises, or blood. It wasn't every day that you saw an Asian boy fall 50 or so feet from a tree unscathed. "Hello!" James spoke, sitting back and brushing dirt and dust from his uniform.

Dorian had been at the school for some time, still the only person he really knew was Juliette. The girl who had guided him around the school, and had basically shown him where everything was. It was a nice thing to know. The summer boy decided today would be the day he gave the conservatory a visit despite it being rainy. And force some reason today his gift was particularly active, dancing about on his skin. Yeah he would need to cover that up and hope it didn't reach to his face.

Grabbing his coat off the back of the desk chair the boy put it on and walked out the door. Making sure his long hair was tied up. It was a mess if he didn't keep it that way. With a sigh the dark skinned boy stepped out into the rain, and over to the glass dome that contained all the plants of various kinds. The sounds of nature and the rain filled his ears giving the student an overall calm feeling. It was a nice day, if only it remained that way for a while. Feeling the rain hit his head and the exposed skin was nice, it was a feeling he always enjoyed but he couldn't ever describe it. He didn't even care that it was seeping through his clothes.

Well maybe he did a little bit. The rain was rather cold still, which is what drove him to finally reach the building and step inside. His amber eyes scanned the area, looking around at the various plants, some of which he knew, but most of them he didn't. Then he realized that this would be a good place to take out some of the energy of his gift. Willing the darkness to his skin, the boy formed a butterfly out of the darkness, and let it flutter around. It sort of seemed like it reflected a purple light, but it was hard to tell.

A noise caught the summer's attention as soon as he let the butterfly go. His amber eyes narrowed slightly, and he looked in the direction of the noise only to see another person fall from a tree. He moved forward, his shoes making soft taps against the floor, as he walked over to the student. It didn't really surprise him that this had happened but he still needed to make sure the boy was okay. "Are you alright?" Dorian asked the other student.

Out of the corner of his eye, he thought he spotted a dark looking butterfly, but it fluttered off before James could get a good look at him. Glancing up at the dark skinned boy, he gave him another big smile. Jumping up to his feet, he turned and gave him a hand. Are you alright? That was a pretty simple phrase. It had to be one of the first sentences he learned from the "English: Phrasebook & Dictionary."

"I'm good. Tough,"
he said, raising his free arm, flexing, and slapping it. "Like Superman." It was the easiest way he could explain his powers without trying to speak that long, strange sounding word he could never remember. Hopefully the boy could understand him through his thick, Korean accent.

"My name is James Logan Wayne! What is your name?" His voice almost sounded robotic, but he was fully invested in becoming this boy's friend.

Dorian blinked when the boy first spoke. It was a bit hard to understand, but he got it. Tough? Like Superman? The summer boy didn't really know that much about the super hero so it took him a moment to figure out what James was trying to say. Oh yeah.. Superman was invulnerable. So that must have been his gift. "Ah. Alright. That's good. That was quite a tumble you took." He said hoping the boy could understand him. It seemed he struggled with english. "Nice to meet you James. My name is Dorian." He said with a friendly smile on his face.

James was a little stumped as to what he said before introducing himself. Scratching his head, the boy reached into his pocket to bring out that helpful little book of his. "Ah, sorry, Do-ri-ahn. I don't speak very much English. I am from Korea. Only in America for small time," he apologized, having to read the words over to make sure he didn't mess up. Flipping through the dictionary, he couldn't find anything remotely close sounding to 'tu-mu-bul'. Letting out a soft sight, he skimmed the front pages until he found the social part of this book.

Meeting People. "Do you like sport? Ahh, no... School! Do you like school? I like school!" Feeling a rush of pride wash over his body, he excitedly waited the other boy's response. He fiddled with the phrasebook in his hand, thankful he always brought it along with him. He had not had the opportunity to use this particular phrase just yet, so re-learning it gave the dark-haired boy a sense of accomplishment.

Well this was certainly going to be an interesting conversation. English was Dorian's native language he was used to speaking it with all of these big words, he was going to have to keep it simple for this guy wasn't he? Not that he minded. Dorian blinked at his question when he quickly changed it because of a small mess up. Either sentence was fine, but he guess James just wanted to ask about the school. "Ah yes.. school." He hadn't been here too long, but so far the school was treating him well, which was a good thing. "Yes. I like school. School is good."
