Hand at the ready to start the timer, ready to take off, Owen was surprised when a voice called out to him. He was already tense and prepared to go. The voice acted like a shotgun, his legs kicking in before he was fully aware of what he was doing, and he forced himself to stop, looking towards the source of the sound. A girl had come up behind him as he was prepping. Sheepishly, he walked back to where she was, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand.
"You surprised me," he said with a lopsided smile. He glanced around, seeing that they were the only two on the track, and he paused to consider her offer. It would be fun to race someone, he thought. "If you can keep up, sure, I'll race you." His smile widened, his face lighting up at the idea of something fun.
