The Yeti of the Lower Himilayas Empty
PostSubject: The Yeti of the Lower Himilayas   The Yeti of the Lower Himilayas EmptyMon Mar 25, 2013 6:26 pm

A harsh snowfall had hit the Himalayan Mountains that late March day. A group of teenagers, dressed in heavy coats, had spent a while in an airplane flying from America to Nepal, at the very bottom of some of the mountains. Thankfully, they didn't have to climb Everest or any of the tall mountains in the area. The scientists they were rescuing were but on a rocky hill, studying the geological conditions of the lower areas, and what they reported was just a tad farther up said hill.
Yetis. They had been reported in the area for hundreds of years, but always on high mountain ranges. This one came as a shock, and the scientists had guessed the monster made it's home farther down to farm off the villagers and their crops. Now, it was attacking geologists, who had technology to get help.

Lotte winced as a bitter wind whipped against her face, and hoped this base the scientists set up had heating. She liked snow, and wanted to see the mountains as to maybe get some souvenir snapshots, but she didn't expect it to be this bad. As the group of teenagers trekked on, an encampment appeared in front of them. Tents littered the area, each large and bolted down on every square inch. At least they were prepared. A middle aged man was there to great them. "Hello, hello, welcome to Nepal!" he said, and Lotte was surprised to hear his Scottish accent. He had a salt and pepper beard, yet his hair was hooded. He and a few other brave souls were the only ones outside during the blizzard, and those people smiled as they held down their hats and hurried to their own residence.

PostSubject: Re: The Yeti of the Lower Himilayas   The Yeti of the Lower Himilayas EmptyMon Mar 25, 2013 7:07 pm

Indigo eyes peered around curiously, protected by a yellow tinted pair of goggles. Pink hair whipped across her face, half buried under a helmet and black earmuffs. Her white jacket hug to her, and she was more thankful than ever for the warmth. "Thank you, sir." Kimply fidgeted slightly on her feet, trying to keep the cold from getting to her. To be honest, she was rather impatient at that moment, wanting nothing more than to go inside and enjoy some warm tea and a book. That would be nice, wouldn't it? But instead she was chasing after a monster with nothing more than her stupid power and a bow and quiver of arrows resting against her shoulder blades.
When she had heard that there were missions open, she had immediately signed up. It wasn't until she had boarded the plane to the Himalayas that she realized what she was getting into. It was so incredibly dangerous, but now she was forced to fake bravery. She bit her lip, her eyes darting around, not doing the best job at appearing nonchalant.

Evelyn tagged along behind Kimply, seemingly buried in a large black jacket and snow pants. Black absorbed light, and thus is absorbed heat... generally, anyways. Whatever heat there was to be absorbed by her small frame. Black earmuffs wrapped around her head and she seemed like she was trying to withdraw her head into a red scarf wrapped loosely around her face, and she instantly regretted coming. Pink gloved hands were pushed deep inside her jacket pockets, and she flinched as the cold wind whipped across her body. She felt like she was going to be pushed off her feet!

They said it was dangerous and far away, but her curiosity simply overwhelmed her... Evelyn was skeptical of these missions herself. Besides! Nepal! Such an interesting remote region. She hadn't realized that they were serious about yeti hunting, but she wasn't sure what to think. they wouldn't send a couple random students to Nepal of all places for no good reason. Evelyn just had to see what these "missions" were about herself... Evelyn felt the handle of the dagger through the fabric gloves and instantly felt sick. She just wanted to go home.

Montare began to walk up in is own black snow coat, his hood up with a grey scarf around his neck. He had cut the fingers of his gloves off so that he would be able to handle his knife with more ease if he had to, which he probably would. They were sent to hunt a yeti, after all. For now his hands were in his jacket pockets to keep his otherwise exposed fingers warm.

Go ahead on a mission, he said... You'll never see another Yeti, he said... It's good to travel and see the world, he said...
Aha. Fuck you, Dad.
Being stuck in the middle of a frozen wasteland looking for some fairy tale creature was far from what he had in mind. He stood tallest against the storm, but that didn't mean he was any less miserable. He had a thick, black winter trench coat on - his fur lace hoodie attempting to protect his head from any blowing snow. It was sad he also had to rely on a white scarf as well to cover part of his face, which was easily pale from the weather. He protectively hugged the case of his violin, really the only weapon that he had had - if you could consider it that; a dirk was snugged into the side of his boots, though, just in case. "Yeah, Thanks..." Jace muttered, taking all of his strength not to blurt out when they would get somewhere with warmth - or be pushed in the direction of the Yeti already. It was freezing. ;A;

OOC: If you are okay with getting injured, put it in an OOC.

"Well, you laddies look freezing. Le'me get you in a nice warm tent until the winds pass, do'n that sound good?" the man said with a throaty chuckle. Lotte nodded vigorously. Despite her many layers, the girl still couldn't feel her toes. She wanted to get into some kind of heat.
And as the man lead them into the largest tent, a gathering one, she was surprised to find the place actually warm. Besides the tiny amounts of wind sneaking into some gaps under the tent, there were at least 5 heaters covering the place, using solar energy to take in cold air and heat it up at a fast pace. This was the technology of the 2030s, and while expensive, organizations had funded this trip to Nepal. There were about 4 men already in the tent, laughing merrily around a table as if the outside conditions were of no concern. They had shed an outer coat, but still had a few layers on. It was significantly warmer in the tent, but not Egypt.
Lotte sighed with relief, the sound muffled from under her coat. She sat down in the nearest chair to rest her legs, for she had hiked from the airport to a village, and from a village to the camp. It was really a long and unnecessary trip.
Oh yeah. And where was Ethel during this?
The ghost seemed comfortable, dressed in her usual attire. It pained Lotte to see the girl so comfortable, and she envied her ability to not perceive cold temperatures as this. Ghosts always felt a comfortable temperature, though no one knew the exact degree. Or ghosts didn't really care, for that matter.
The man who led them inside unzipped his outer coat. "Oy, 'ow are ya' chil'un? Mi' name's Richter, and I am the lead of 'dis 'ere campment. Our boys called 'ur school when 'dat beast ravaged one of our tents n' made off wif' sum'a our food supply. Hideous devil, 'ah saw 'em wif' mah own eyes." the man drowned on, taking a bottle of whiskey from a nearby mini fridge. Oh, the irony of such a device made Lotte giggle from under her suit. The girl did not take the man's lead and unbutton, feeling they'd be back out soon enough.

Kimply sighed in relief, practically dashing towards the tent. She looked around, and quickly noticed the decrease in temperature. Oh, thank God. She was afraid she'd end up a Kimplcicle before the first stretch of their mission. Now that would have been embarrassing.
She practically dropped into a seat near Lotte, leaning back for a moment and resting. Finally, she didn't have to stand. But the girl kept having to remind herself that this was barely the beginning of it all. She'd have to find, and kill and Yeti with the help of her teammates. Wonderful. Just wonderful.
The Winter girl listened intently to what the man had to say, nodding along. "What did it look like? Do you have a picture?" Perhaps Kimply could practice her location skills, and find the creature much faster. The thought excited her, and earlier dull blue eyes burned indigo once again.

Montare somewhat quickly followed into the warm tent, pulling off his hood to embrace the heat. Knowing Jason may get angry if he did otherwise, Montare sat down leaving space between him and Lotte. Hopefully finding the Yeti would not be as brutal as the long hike up here. At least the constant movement from fighting would heat them up once they find the yeti.

Richter blinked at Kimply, taking a swig of the alcohol in his hand before answering.
"Oy, lassie, 'dis monster is killer indud. Ah had nu ti'em to snap photos of 'da bastad" said the man, laughing. "Ah 'em sury girl, but he's out 'der all right if you doubtin'. Me boys saw 'is cave up 'n close, right lads?"
He turned to look at the group sitting at another table. They nodded, grinning. One raised their glass to Richter, who raised back. Both men chugged the remaining liquid in their glass, slamming it on the table.
What kind of scientists were these? They were sitting around drinking when they had all this technology. Lotte frowned, knowing where the taxpayer's money was going now. She knew it was a snowstorm, but they all looked a little too cheerful and merry for this to be their first time drinking together.

Jason let out a huge sigh of relief as he walked into the tent, taking off his hoodie and quickly shaking off what snow he could - although he wasn't sure if the scientists would like that or not, whatever got him warmer, faster was better for him. Still, though, he knew they wouldn't have much time here. He strapped his case behind his back and walked over to where the others were, bending down on one knee and rubbing his hands together - his golden gaze following that of the obviously Scottish leader. "And you know its there now?" Jace inquired, a determined look on his face, "Can you lead us to it?" Once they found this thing and got rid of it, they could be on a warm plane back home.

Evelyn had followed the group into the tents without hesitation, breathing a sigh of relief as she felt warm air hit her face inside the tent, loosening her scarf. Such a carefree team of British scientists. Maybe they were just Scottish. She wasn't too sure. The man was nice to welcome them like this. But, she supposed they were doing them a favor... she was only half paying attention to their conversation when Jace spoke up.

Evelyn's eyes widened. "That doesn't sound safe..." she muttered, though she wasn't sure if she'd be heard above the blizzard and chatter. She strained her voice, trying to talk louder, but it just faded back into a low hushed tone. "S-someone could get hurt if we just... charge up to... it..." She looked down to the floor, stuffing her hands into her pockets and digging her shoes into the ground.

They needed some kind of plan, right? Besides, they didn't even need to kill it... did they? Yeah, that's what everyone said to do, but it was probably just some animal... it stole food supplies, wrecked a few tents, and left. With how barren and harsh things were, it might just be some kind of isolated scavenger. Maybe it was a native species of bear or monkey. Couldn't they... just...

She tried to ignore the shape of the dagger in her jacket pocket. She knew that they planned to kill it, whatever it was. But...

"'Ay, indeed. No'ne has ever attacked 'duh bast'ad, 'n I h'urd you kiddies had 'sum supernatural bullshit 'bout 'ya." Richter explained. "Person'ly, I wouldn't have 'lieved it if I hadn't seen a fo'king yeti, ami'rite?"
The other men in the tent began to laugh loudly, along with Richter. This was indeed a strange bunch of people. Richter straightened up, and grinned at Jason. "No worries, lad, I'll sent ma' area expert ta' get you up 'der and back. We have a helicopter in case you gut stuck. Well, unl'us it be blizzardun'"
The howling winds seemed to have calmed down since the conversation began. Richter threw each person a mask, which kind of resembled a gas mask, except a tad smaller. In the mouthpiece was a communications device, and in an earpiece was an earbud or sorts.
"You'll need 'dees to communicate if 'dah winds get howlin'. Bran' new technology. 'dis is the twenni first cent'ry, baby." said the man. "'Et also be a head warmer, if you wond'run. No need four all 'dos hats 'n whatnot. You leave in ten."
Then, the man put his outer coat back on, and went outside. No snow trailed in as he walked out. the winds had truly subsided. Richter was going to get their guide for them.

Montare accepted the strange mask and examined it. The white mask felt fairly strong, likely made like this to keep it durable. He put the mask on his face, causing the two eye lenses to clear up. He messed with knobs on the side to adjust how much heat it outputs and other things. He sat and waited for the others.

Jason looked aside at Evelyn as she spoke. He only heard a few select words, but he could understand just about what she was saying. The young man stared down. To be honest, he hadn't at all considered coming up with strategy. "Would we really need a plan? I figured it was pretty straight forward." Go in, don't die, kill the yeti, get out. It didn't sound all that complicated. Then again, he supposed with that thinking, it was why she was in Winter and he - well - wasn't; with his attitude of "if shit happens, it happens."

The Autumn child looked up at the scientist, giving a crooked smile, "Yeah, not many believe it at first. And it'd be appreciated if you kept this job quiet." Even though this man was clearly hearty and a stereo-typical drinker, he was also a man of knowledge - and whatever research he was doing here had to be important. A few trusted governments and institutions around the world were given means to contact Beata if ever something unnatural were to occur if their assistance was needed.

He knew, though, that still for the most part that their school - their entire world - was kept a secret. His parents had explained this all to him. Although a place for those with abilities to gather was benefits for them, it could also endanger them. What one might see as a school of gifteds, another might see as a future, supernatural human army. And that was just one of the possibilities.

It was getting harder though with all the creatures that had been escaping recently, not just near their home, but all over the world - from that strange universe where their alien island formed. But enough of that random universe building...

Jace smiled, pleased that this scientist had already planned a guide for them and quietly took the mask, inspecting it with one hand and frowning. It was amazing, yet strange at the same time. Even though it looked rather simple, he was afraid he might break it if he tried to put it on. "Technology, man... I don't get along with it." He pondered, looking at it. Sooner or later, their powers might not make them so different from the rest of the world.

He'd wait to put it on at the last moment, instead shooting a glance at Evelyn, Kimply, and Lotte. And a small glance at Montare, he supposed. The young man wasn't at all happy that he had decided to show up with them, and it was for that reason he stuck so close with the three girls.

Evelyn held the helmet up delicately. It was rather simple when you thought about it, but ingenious nonetheless. It could be invaluable for expeditions and conditions like this. Though, she knew the helmet had a darker side. Something like this would also be great for the military. To implement the radio into the helmet while providing full protection of the face and head... Maybe Richter had this in mind too.

She didn't try to think of it as she gingerly slipped her earmuffs and held the helmet in her hands as if it was a ball. She didn't need to put it on just yet.
