In many ways, his 'socialite', narcissistic presentation is a method of masking that insecurity. He's also a closet classic video game enthusiast, and would be destroyed if anyone found out.
personal history wordswordswords _________________________________ Noah was born into a wealthy Canadian family in Yellowknife, Yukon Territory. His father, Albert Wayley, is the CEO of a family-owned auto-mechanics business known as Wayley Tech. Inc., and his mother is an orthodontist with several different offices located all around North America. Growing up, Noah had a large, lavish house and an equally flashy supernatural gift to match it. Despite all this, his familial relations are nowhere near as polished. Noah’s gift comes from his mother’s side of the family. His mother had always hated what an unnatural advantage gifts gave people over others, so when she married, she went against her parents’ suggestion to wed a gifted man. As it turned out, when Noah’s speed gift manifested in the third grade during a relay race, his father as well as his mother were both gravely disappointed and furious. Ever since, they have treated Noah with a contempt they do not harbour against his younger, un-gifted sister, and have been emotionally distant with him when not in the public eye. Even though he has placed national gold in countless different sports and has become somewhat of a minor sports celebrity in Canada, his parents think of him as nothing more than a cheat. Thought Noah doesn’t like to admit it, he is deeply bothered by this and it has caused him to treat his parents with equal hostility - hate, even. Fortunately, though, the animosity between him and his parents has not damaged Noah’s life outside of his home. At school and in public, he sports an extroverted, impulsive personality that seems to have no brakes. He ties a large part of his identity to his speed ability, unmatched by any other living person, which sometimes causes his ego to inflate and thus makes him rub many people the wrong way. He makes friends easily, but tends to look down on others for not being as athletically inclined as he is. As soon as he found out about Beata Academy, he packed his bags and left home without a second word to the family he’d grown to despise over the years.

gift information wordswordswords ________________________________________________ Noah's ability, that being superhuman speed, allows him to run at velocities that vastly exceed that of even the strongest Olympic sprinters in the world. Though normal peoples' organs would rupture at such speeds, Noah's body is specially conditioned to adapt to running at such high speeds without said physical consequences - Though he can still tire himself out. Recently, he hasn't clocked the exact speed he is able to run at, but he's positive that he can easily break the sound barrier. This ability has allowed him to excel at dozens of sports and earn national and provincial gold in many of them, including soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, competitive swimming, baseball, and a multitude of track and field sports. As well as being good at sports, Noah has demonstrated his skills at reaction-based activities as well (e.g. video games), thanks to his vastly enhanced reflexes and reaction time. Additionally, as time passed, his quickened metabolism has allowed his body to heal from physical injury at slightly faster rates than typical people. If he so desires, he can also oscillate molecules so rapidly that he can phase through them. These abilities does not come without consequence, though. His metabolism, being so quick, forces him to eat triple the amount of the average human being, and sometimes means he must take strengthening medication and energy enhancing drinks to keep himself in tip-top shape.

Naturally, Noah has grown a liking to him because of their shared ability, but he isn't as close to Edward as he is to Barry. Ed's kidnapping at a young age meant that Noah hadn't actually seen Ed since they were little children, so he was quite surprised and excited to find out that they were attending Beata together. Barry - Barry's persona compliments Noah's a lot better than Edward's does, so as a result, Noah has an easier time interacting with Barry. Though they also rarely got the chance to speak as children because of the feud between their mothers (due to disagreements on gifts), they got into multiple play-fights and races at tender ages. These are parts of Noah's childhood that he can actually look fondly back on, pushing his parents out of the picture. He considers Barry a friend as well as a cousin, but with all of the chaos going on at the academy, they haven't talked for a long time. Kyou - Upon meeting her at the Game Lounge in Rosebury upon his arrival to Beata, there was instant, negative friction between the two. He thinks of Kyou as nothing more than a petty nuisance, and will always hold a grudge against her for freezing him in time during their first confrontation. He had a somewhat embarrassing encounter with the gym, as well, which only drove him to dislike her more. Maria - Noah finds her egotistical bitchiness almost amusing. He met her and her sister, Freya, in the forest when out jogging with Barry and Ed, and within minutes of bumping into each other, the five engaged in a fight. Juliette - A fellow Autumn acquaintance Noah met while on a morning jog. Juliette had been teetering on the edge of the academy's roof and promptly fallen down onto the pavement, breaking several bones as a result. Noah noticed too late to catch her, but he witnessed her healing factor in action, which creeped him out to some degree. Mason - The first time he met Magic was when he'd been kicked out of the Game Lounge, and took a very quick disliking towards him for being controlling. Sophia - A Spring girl that Noah ran into after a soccer game. She was his 'first time'.

personality & demeanor You are only coming through in waves ___________________________________________ Though he's always been an introvert, he's been sinking into poorer and poorer social tendencies over the past couple of years. A traumatic event that occurred when he was twelve left him mentally and emotionally scarred, and he suffers from chronic depression and a variety of self-destructive habits as a result. He hates himself to the fullest extent - the way he looks, the way he acts, and most of all, his gift, which he sees a curse that gives him an unfair advantage over everyone else. He feels disconnected from the world because of his unnatural healing capabilities - inhuman. Despite all of his self-destructive tendencies, however, he is a very family-oriented, polite, courteous man, and tries his best to maintain the outward appearance of a mentally sound individual - until recently. Ever since being kidnapped by Kaleb and brutally experimented on for the sake of study on his gift, Joseph seems to be trapped in a constant loop of feeling too intensely or feeling nothing at all. He is very quick to panic - especially in small, closed areas - and when he isn't panicking, he is a hair's breadth from catatonia. He cannot sleep because of graphic nightmares related to his trauma and refuses to eat or drink. Post-traumatic stress disorder rules his life and has destroyed his trust in everyone apart from a very tiny sliver of people.
personal history Your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying _________________________________ Joseph was never really an outgoing child. He had a couple of friends, but he often preferred doing activities by himself, such as reading and exploring his neighbourhood. His actions often worried (and still worry) his mother. As an only child, Joseph's mother was very overprotective of him (ironically enough, considering his gift). His parents first discovered that he had healing powers when he was three. Joseph had accidentally bashed his head into the corner of a table, only for the bloody wound to be totally healed within a span of ten seconds. In his elementary school years, his best friend's name was Ian. He was a spontaneous, daring child. He and Joseph often got into trouble for their risky schemes and curious minds. Joseph's mother found Ian to be a bad influence on Joseph at first, but eventually grew used to him. One day, while both at the tender age of twelve, Joseph and Ian snuck into an overgrown, abandoned house a couple of streets down from where they lived. Ian had stolen some matches from his father's toolbox in his garage, as the two were intent on testing the combustibility of certain materials without getting scolded by their parents. At first, it was just harmless fun, but when the flames caught on to the walls while the boys hadn't been paying attention, things went down a rapid descent into utter chaos. The fire blazed out of control, and before they knew it, they were frantically trying to find a way out, surrounded by burning furniture. They attempted to escape, but one of the house's rotting walls collapsed and pinned them down, trapping them in. By the time the fire department was made aware of the blaze and recovered the boys from the wreckage, they were both mortally wounded. Both children were immediately rushed to the hospital, but as it turned out, Joseph healed completely by himself. Ian's recovery was not going to well, however. Joseph could do nothing but watch as his friend struggled to hold on to life. After several hours of emergency surgery, Ian succumbed to his wounds, and died. Joseph felt extremely horrible about this, because he didn't think it was fair that he could live through such a freak accident, and Ian couldn't. Joseph had already been a strange child as it was, but this event only fuelled his current attitude. Ever since the day of Ian's death, Joseph has harboured a well-hidden hatred for himself - namely his gift - for being able to dodge health related risks so easily. He often engages in dangerous activities, such as walking on precarious surfaces and consuming things that would normally be very damaging to the human body. He became both a dedicated alcoholic and smoker, though he will never have to face the negative long or short-term effects of the substances he consumes due to his healing factor. He's tried a wide variety of different narcotics over the years, but since they are costly and don't have much of an effect on him anyway, he often sticks to simple cigarettes. He does nothing to combat this depressive, self-deprecating state. He hopes that someday the narcotics he consumes will kill him, so he does not have to outlive his entire family and live with the guilt of cheating at life. Despite his emotional unrest, Joseph proved to be an intelligent, capable young man, and finished all of his classes sporting considerably good grades. He isn't sure what sort of specialized higher education he wants to enter after graduating from Beata, but he doesn't give much thought to it, and frankly does not care about where his future goes. Joseph worked as a construction assistant during his senior year of high school, and was sent off to Beata after he graduated.
preferences & facts When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse ___________________________________________________ Joseph's a night owl, through and through. The night is quiet, uneventful, and dark, which leaves his too much room to think about his problems, so it's the time when he usually does his drugs and drinks his alcohol until he eventually nods off. This often leaves him tired during the day, which only decreases his willingness to go out and do activities (which was already bad enough because of his depression-fueled lack of motivation). He's lazy - the complete opposite of Juliette. Sports and social events don't interest him in the slightest anymore, though they used to when he was younger. As for the more artsy side of things, his music library mainly consists of slow, quiet alternative rock. He hates anything too loud or too dance-y. Having to hear anything of the sort for extended periods of time stresses him out. This is reflective of the sort of environment he dislikes - crowded and noisy. He's a fan of surrealist and abstract art pieces, as well, and though he isn't a very good visual artist, he enjoys linguistics, and is an occasional hobbyist poet. Joseph's swam in both ponds - meaning he's dated men and women. His longest relationship lasted a year and a bit, and his shortest only a day. Joseph's first girlfriend was at the age of fifteen, and his first boyfriend was a year later.
gift information Out f the corner of my eye ________________________________________________ Aforementioned, Joseph's regenerative healing capabilities manifested at the age of three, when he hit his head on a table. From that point onward, his parents had hounded him relentlessly to keep quiet about his healing gift. If he got a paper cut, they would bandage it up immediately, even though he didn't need it. If he bruised himself while in the playground, with friends his father would usher him off to the side and cover it up. His father, having grown up in North Korea, was always suspicious of higher-ups even in America, and constantly watched out for his son and any unwanted, prying eyes that may or may not have been interested in his unusual healing gift. The gift allows Joseph to live through and heal from any sort of physical wound, be it external or internal, no matter how severe. As expected, the speed of the healing depends on the severity of the injury and what part of the body was damaged. For example, a heart wound would heal much slower than a hand wound. Joseph is also totally immune to illness and disease, and his body will expel parasites if he comes in contact with them. To his dismay, his ability also makes him almost entirely immune to the effects of alcoholic beverages, and lessens the effects of the narcotic substances he indulges in regularly, as well. He sees his gift as a curse, and wishes for nothing more than for it to go away. In addition, after his ordeal with Kaleb, Joseph can no longer feel physical pain at all.
relationships I turned to look, but it was gone _________________________________________________ Juliette - Joseph feels that Juliette is really the only person that he could possibly relate to, as she is family to him and faces several similar gift-related issues to him - both on a mental and physical scale. Though sometimes her spontaneity irritates him, she is irreplaceable, and one of the few people around he truly professes to care about. Their relationship is closer to a brother-sister relationship than anything else. Sarah - A brunette girl he met when Kyou invited him to an Autumn New Year's party. He isn't very well-acquainted with her, but finds her nice enough - Especially after he allowed Kyou to get drunk and obnoxious in Sarah's dorm. Maria - A narcissistic, aggressive Autumn girl that Joseph has grown to despise. She attacked him out of the blue on a walk one afternoon and cut one of his arms off, and he nearly broke her leg and jaw with an axe. To make matters worse, Maria tried to make sexual advances on him one night in the lounge, which he firmly rejected. Stephanie - She accompanied Joseph, Magic, and her older brother Cayden on a beast-expulsion mission in South America. Joseph admires her courage, despite being so young and small. Mason - Another companion of Joseph's on the South America mission. Though only an acquaintance, Joseph appreciates his reserved personality and hardiness in sticky situations. Kyou - The first person Joseph met upon his arrival at Beata. She helped him over to the infirmary and assisted in cleaning away the blood that covered him after his car collided with an electrical pole just outside Beata's entrance. Naturally, she became his first friend at the academy. He's spent several afternoons and evening chatting with her since, the most notable being New Year's night. He accidentally allowed her to drink too much of his alcohol, and as a result, she got drunk, so he had to carry her back to her dorm room. He finds her jumpiness endearing in a way, and appreciates that she respects his space and is willing to deal with his antisocial tendencies. Over the course of knowing her, he's come to care about her a considerable deal.

After the retirement of his grandfather, Clarence’s father, Thomas Burgess, inherited the family bank company and became its CEO. Though his father’s family was always very rich, Clarence’s mother Earline, on the other hand, was born in the shabbiest corner of London with barely a penny to her name. She, as opposed to her husband, is a loud-mouthed, Cockney-accented Irish-English mix with an incurable smoking addiction. To all - including Clarence himself - it is a wonder that a posh, well-mannered gentleman such as Thomas was wooed by and smitten with a sleazy bartender at the age of twenty-five. They still refuse to explain to their son the exact circumstances of their meeting. Clarence’s gift comes from his mother’s side of the family, and upon discovering that his son was supernaturally gifted, his father fell unconscious. It took him a long while to accept as truly being real, and to the present day, he is still quite frightened by it - And rightfully so. Clarence has little control over his gift, and has caused a number of unfortunate accidents while using it - Including giving four different classmates seizures at some point during middle school. Coupled with his sometimes frightening supernatural gift, Clarence often displays varying degrees of moral nihilism and antisocial tendencies. He often overlooks what is considered morally good or bad and simply does what he feels like doing. In other words, he tends to blur the line. He does not often feel like stopping to consider the comfort or feelings of others, making him come off as unnerving at times. He also finds enjoyment in taunting certain people with his intelligence and playing tricks on unaware peers with his gift. After fifteen years spent in London (which Clarence had come to hate over the years for its unchanging, drab weather), he was offered the choice of attending either Sofia Academy or Beata Academy. He ultimately decided that he was sick of Europe, and chose Beata Academy.

His gift comes from his mother's side of the family. Though Earline herself was not born with a gift, her father had the gift of hemokinesis - that being blood manipulation. As mentioned previously, his father is frightened of his gift and urges him to use it as little as possible, seeing it as 'unfit' and 'unethical' for a young man of Clarence's prestigious stature. Neurokinesis has a wide range of different applications. The user can dull or even completely diminish pain in any area of the body (causing varying degrees of numbness), increase pain in any part of the body, cause seizures (though these are often involuntarily given), and can puppeteer an opponent's limbs in any which way. In the future, further applications may include paralysis inducement, sleep inducement, sensation manipulation, enhanced reflexes, and tampering with the emotions of others by controlling certain areas of their brains. Unfortunately, Clarence does not have very adequate control of his gift at the moment, which is why he's accidentally injured several people and animals when practicing his gift.

He's also a bit of an odd cookie, and Clarence finds his gift - that being string manipulation - to be quite intriguing. Elaine - A snide blonde Summer girl that somehow managed to end up in the same dorm as Clarence - by some unfortunate stroke of fate. They had a rather unfriendly first encounter up on Diane's Hill, which resulted in Clarence's hand getting burned. For a time, he regularly enjoyed coming into her room to read books and bother her, and took a curious interest in her daily habits after he witnessed her performing taxidermy on a squirrel. Following an afternoon in which Elaine persuaded him into an intimate encounter, however, he opted to avoid her at all costs out of sheer embarrassment.

personal history 'till eternity passes away _________________________________ As a young boy, Anthony was a cheerful, well-mannered child. His curious, daring mind would sometimes get him into trouble, but he was quite different from how he currently is. Despite all of his friends, he was a very family-oriented boy, and preferred to spend more time with his siblings than with his own school friends. The one person he held most dear to him, however, was always his father. They shared common interests, like music, fantasy literature, and Anthony's own flirtatious tendencies rubbed off on him from his father. They would sneak into baseball games together, go to concerts together, play guitar together, drive together, and get scolded by Anthony's mother together. His father was always his best friend. And then came the call of duty in 1974, when his father was conscripted by the government and sent off into the fray of the Vietnam War. He left Anthony with his favourite guitar pick and the promise of returning someday to tell him all about his experiences, and every day since he departed, Anthony waited. He would sit on his front porch in the morning before school and spend his entire afternoon after school slumped in his yard, waiting for his best friend to come back to him. He waited right until the very day that the lone military commander strode solemnly up to his front door to give him the news. Anthony changed after his father died. He resentment towards authority increased and increased with each passing day, and he found himself down in the principle's office far more often than he had before. It drove him to fail three classes in the ninth grade, and several more close calls over the next three years of high school. The shock would wear off as the years passed, but Anthony eventually decided to take up guitar as a professional career in memory of his father, as being a notable guitarist had always been a dream of his that the war hadn't allowed him to achieve. His mother disapproved of his career choice, as it brought a slew of different lovers, bad school habits, and persistent drinking into his life, but in spite of her marrying another man only two years after his father died, he disregarded her concern for him entirely. Anthony's stepfather was always a decent, considerate man who consistently tried to get on his stepson's good side, but Anthony would never accept him as anything more than a stranger - a cheap fill-in that would never fit the hole his father left behind. He despises his mother for 'forgetting' about his father so quickly, and spits at his siblings for 'not understanding' his anger. Anthony started spending far more time with his band-mates (whom he considers honorary brothers) and various groupies as opposed to his family - vastly unlike his younger self. He became deeply infatuated with a beautiful young woman named Jessica in the fifth grade, and continued to unsuccessfully pursue her all the way up to the point where his power first activated and sent him seventy years into the future - to 2036.

Just one use of it's power will render its user instantly unconscious, as it uses up a fair amount of bodily energy even when travelling a decade into the future or past. The dormant gene of time-related gifts is been passed down to each child in the family, but only one lucky child every few generations is born with the active gene. Anthony himself has absolutely no control of his gift at the current time. He doesn't quite understand how he triggered it - thought he assumes it had something to do with the fact that his life was in danger when it happened - and has completely given up hope of ever being able to do it again. The concept of supernatural gifts existing at all is still a daze to him, never mind all of the unfamiliar technology he is surrounded with. He fancies himself stuck in the future forever.

His dusky green eyes are ever-so-slightly slanted and constantly adorned by dark, tired rings, giving off the false impression that they're sunken in. He has faint brown freckles lining his nose and upper cheeks, the prominence of which depends on how much time he spends in the sun. He's also got a small scar on his left cheek from where he was punched by Hanna. Whatever's cheapest at a second-hand store is usually what he will go for, with minimal regard for what's in and what isn't.

Before he fell ill, he had a strong sense of humor, but was very mindful of the feelings of those around him, and was always careful not to go overboard. He aimed high, with a dream of being a world-class pianist in mind from a very young age, but was always humble in everything he did. He'd often push himself to to better, but didn't think himself better or worse than most people. He did not carry notions of superiority or inferiority. Many of his friends and teachers described him as the sort of person who could easily lighten the atmosphere of any room he entered, and was very easy to talk to when one was feeling down. Sometimes they worried that he was putting the well-being of others above his own, but it was hard to tell, because he seemed to radiate optimism. Bits and pieces of these qualities are still present. His sense of humor is still intact, but it comes in short bursts. His former self seems to want to shine through, but the veil of his illness is too thick. Because he cannot control his gift, he cannot treat his schizophrenia appropriately. He was prescribed pills to deal with some of his symptoms, but they don't seem to be making any long-term effects. It's as if he's been hollowed out - this is how his parents describe his transformation. Sometimes, it's hard to pick any emotion up off of him at all. Sometimes, his moods swing at random for no reason. Sometimes, if he's lucky, his old self shines through. He's a very mixed bag.

Telepathy is a considerably powerful metal gift to possess. On a basic level, it allows the user to read the thoughts of other people, feel some of their emotions, and communicate telepathically with them. It has a myriad of extensions to build upon once practised enough, as well. A skilled telepath can perform binding (limiting the physical movement of others), manipulate emotions, replicate another person's knowledge, merge one's consciousness with another, and to some extents, manipulate the actions of peers by influencing their thought processes. To Roderick, the gift of telepathy means only psychological decay for himself, though he doesn't fully realize the impact it has had on him. He is able to read the thoughts and emotions of other people, as well as communicate mentally with them, but these abilities are not beneficial to him in the slightest. Before the gift had even manifested, Rod's mind had already slowly started to inch closer to the edge. When it manifested, he tipped over. It happened one evening while he'd been out wandering along the around in the downtown area of the city. Suddenly, an uncontrollable flood of voices - the thoughts of other people - filled his head and sent him spiraling into a mental breakdown. In his desperation and panic, he sought out narcotics in hopes of soothing his sudden condition. The drugs he consumed seemed to blur the voices in his head to the point where they no longer bothered him, but in truth, would only end up worsening his condition in the long run. Though mental instability had been creeping up on Rod already before his gift had flowered, his mind really took a critical blow once it did, and wove him into a string of schizophrenic tendencies that have not showed any signs of weakening since the incident. He hallucinates, incorrectly interprets certain questions and statements, has difficulty stringing sentences and conversations together coherently, has rapid mood swings and frequent memory lapses, and occasionally, enters states of catatonia that can last between five minutes and several hours.
