Yet Another Change Adjustment

After finding out the results to her House test, Emily had avoided the dorms for as long as she could. Visiting the dorms meant that she had to interact with other students, to use her voice, to be friendly. All of which she despised doing. Through her fears, Emily finally took the little courage in her body to walk into the Winter dorm rooms; heading for her dorm. Room 102. She wondered who else would have the dorm; if she would know anyone there, or if she was going to be surrounded by strangers as usual. Now that she thought of it, Emily only knew two people, and she doubted that they were in the same House. Luck was never on her side. Taking a deep breath, Emily walked into the dorm and quickly found herself in what was described as a living space. Looking off to the side, she saw the door that lead to her room, but decided to sit on the couch in the living space instead.

Well, this was it. Renard had finally been sorted into a house - Winter, just like he and Emily had talked about. As he walked towards dorm 102, he wondered if Emily had been sorted into that house too. That'd be nice, he thought to himself, a smile creeping up on his face. Being quick to discard that smile lest anyone saw him grinning to himself like an idiot, he finally reached the room and opened the door, getting quite a surprised once he walked inside. "Emily?" he called, surprise quite obvious in his tone. Sure, there had been a chance that she and him would be in the same house, but the same dorm too? What were the chances of that? It was a shock... but not a bad one. In fact, this couldn't be better. It would mean that he could share a living space with someone without having to go through that awkward phase of getting to know them, which he was not very good at.

Emily glanced up at the sound of her name; she had been picking the nail polish off of her fingernails. She had been thinking of just heading to her room, but all thoughts of leaving quickly left her head. A big smile brightened Emily's face when she found the source of the voice; Renard. "Renard!" Emily said happily, standing up. She had the urge to hug him, and almost did, but then kept herself from doing so.

Smiling brightly at this new revelation, Renard stepped into the room and closed the door, moving into the certain of the dorm. "Well well, I should've known I'd find you here," he laughed softly, still a bit shocked that Emily would be here. This was fantastic, though, as he had previously established to himself. Still, a bout of shyness came on, so he could only stand in front of her and smile awkwardly. "Guess you called that we'd be in the winter dorm, huh?" Maybe she was psychic.

Emily shrugged at what he said. Yes, she had stated that when they were in the café, but never would she had actually thought something so great, so unlikely, would happen to her. "Lucky guess." she told him, unable to stop smiling. It had been a nice surprise to see him here, and Emily still couldn't believe how lucky she had been to get him in her dorm. "How've you been?" she asked, trying to break the awkward tension between them.

"I've been fine," he answered simply, looking around the dorm. It seemed cozy enough: it'd do. He'd probably find his room at some point, but the main living space was where he wanted to be at the moment. "Mind if I sit?" he asked, gesturing towards the couch where she had previously been sitting. Admittedly, Renard's brain was still trying to wrap itself around this wonderful fact, but he at least felt that his smile didn't look too creepy at the moment.

Emily nodded slowly, slight hesitation in her movements. "Uhm.. Sure." she told him, sitting down in the corner of the couch. Emily scooted as close to the end of the couch as she could, to give him plenty of room to sit down without crowding him. "So.." Emily said, anxiously picking at her fingernail polish again, "When did you find out your house?" she asked, glancing up at him.

Renard gave Emily a slightly confused look as she moved to the very edge of the couch, but just shrugged and sat right next to her regardless. "Earlier today," he answered, giving her a small smile. "Did you find out today as well?" He searched for anything that could constitute a continuation of their conversation, trying not to let it fall flat. This was going to be trouble for him, certainly. He noticed her picking at her fingernail polish and guessed she was a tad anxious; well, he was too.

Emily shook her head slightly, a small frown on her lips. "I.. I found out early yesterday morning, actually. This is the first time I've been in here though." she told him, forcing a small smile. Emily had stayed in the forest all night, staring up at the moon and thinking. She hadn't wanted to walk into the dorm, not then. She knew that whoever else had found out their dorm rooms would be there, and she didn't want to meet anyone. The forest seemed like the best place to be; aside from the lights-out rule. No one had come looking for her to yell at her yet today though, so she seemed safe for today.

"Well, that's good." Renard leaned back against the couch, at a loss for conversation now. This wasn't good, now was it? But what were they supposed to talk about? "Uhm, do... do we have certain classes?" he finally asked, fumbling for the question. He hadn't really paid attention to that either, so hopefully she would be able to steer him in the right direction.

Emily's brow furrowed in frustration as she tried to dig up any information she had heard in the past few days about classes. She gave a small sigh of defeat as she shook her head. "I honestly don't know.. I'll have to ask someone." Emily told him, frowning sadly. That was the one thing she hadn't heard about, and it irritated her. Not knowing an answer racked her brain, causing her happy mood to deplete somewhat.

Renard shrugged, laughing to keep the mood light. No need to lessen it with a lack of information. "Hey, do you mind showing me your power?" Admittedly, Renard was very curious about it and, with no one else here, maybe she'd be more open to revealing it. It'd be cool, at least. "I mean, you don't have to if you don't want to, but I'm really interested in seeing it."

Emily hesitated. Questions filled her mind: should she really show him her power? Did she trust him enough? Did she trust herself? Sighing, Emily gave him a small smile before glancing around for something to focus on; to manipulate. She was afraid though that she would lose control over the object, that she didn't have enough self control to even make it move. Emily didn't have to worry about not having the power to move anything though; as soon as she found something to focus on, her power became evident. The object happened to be a vase, and as she turned her attention on it, the vase flew against the wall. The sound of shattering glass caused Emily to flinch. "T-There.." she said, her voice shaking.

Renard turned his rapt attention to Emily as he watched her concentrate; his power also dealt with this form of concentration. Her vision moved, and he followed her gaze towards a vase lazing in a corner. Suddenly, the vase jerked back against the wall, smashing into many pieces and tinkering down across the floor. Renard jumped in surprise, not expecting such a violent explosion to take place from the object. Looking down upon the destruction of it, he had to laugh, at least to push away that sudden shock he had made quite evident with his surprised vertical movement. "Wow, that was awesome," he breathed, turning back to her and giving her a smile. "So you can control objects with your mind? That's extremely cool. And since you were gracious enough to show me your power, I'll show you mine."

Moving into an upright sitting position, Renard looked upwards towards the light streaming out of the ceiling fan above them. His attention turned towards a bigger piece of the vase Emily had smashed: a small shadow jutted out from underneath it, laying lifeless across the floor. "Watch this," he murmured to her, pointing towards the shadow before concentrating on it... concentrating... with a flick of his index finger, the shadow suddenly came to life, moving away independently from the object from which it had depended on for existence. Slowly moving his finger forward, Renard made the shadow slide across the floor, shifting its form on the ground until it no longer looked like a shard of vase. Instead, it had transformed into an 'E'. Once the shadow had laid there for a sufficient amount of time, Renard broke the concentration. With his control gone, the shadow faded away, the light from the ceiling fan returning the shadow to its original state. Laying back on the couch and giving Emily a smile, he rested his hand on his lap. "So, that's it." In truth, he didn't actually have to move his hand to control the shadows, but it was just a little quirk of his.

An intrigued look grew on Emily's face as she watched his shadow change shape. As soon as she recognized the shape as an E, a bright smile lit up her face. The thought of the broken vase was soon forgotten as Emily looked at Renard in awe. "Your power.... It's so great." She whispered, her eyes wide. She glanced back at the broken shards of the vase, unable to get that stupid smile off her face. She finally looked back up at him after a while, curiosity in her eyes. "Why an E?"
