Locked Out Empty
PostSubject: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptySat Sep 28, 2013 3:16 pm

The hall of the dorms was a narrow one. Lotte made her way through the passageway with Ethel in toe, holding the ghost's hand with a warm smile on her face. The day was a Friday, the time night. Nevertheless, the hallway was bright with the light of the lightbulbs overhead.
"You haven't seen Jace in a while, milady."
"Who?"
Ethel smirked at the response, her eyes drifting from Lotte's face as the girl jumbled with her keys as to find the one to her dorm. Amongst the surprising amount of the lock openers were her home's key, which belonged to a door far away in Arizona, as well as a studio key that was granted to the girl by the art teacher. Her ghost friend's glance ended up at a rather random place: the area in which the wall met the ceiling in a corner.
"What hour are we upon?"
"The time? It is around seven." Lotte answered absentmindedly, looking through her keys. "Fuck, where is it?"
"What causes you to curse? Is there something wrong?"
Lotte shoved the keys into her pocket irritably, turning towards Lotte with a frown. "I must have forgotten to put my key back on my loop. It isn't here."
With that, Lotte knocked on the door of the dorm. Upon waiting a few seconds with no answer, she breathed in a nervous sigh. "We're locked out."
"Be calm, milady. Someone has to return soon." Ethel said with a soothing tone, glancing down the hall. "Perhaps we should take a stroll until then. Is the courtyard outside the school a good idea?"
In a town or neighborhood outside of campus, this wasn't a good idea after dusk, but this was a school. There were usually people out and about through the night on a Friday, the campus having an impressive amount of students within it and the courtyard being irresistibly dazzling during the nighttime.
Lotte began to walk in the direction from which she came without an answer to Ethel's question, making it outside into the cool autumn air. It was chilly for sure, and Lotte longed for a jacket, though it was not so cold for it to be a necessity. The two girls made it to the courtyard within a minute or so and began to walk along the path, which was lit by the many lampposts lining it. There were people out as Lotte expected, happy people, who smiled and laughed and talked amongst themselves. The setting was a bit more pleasant, and therefore Lotte relaxed, walking down the path with her usual jovial demeanor. She'd have to get new keys from the dormitory office the next morning, but there had to be someone at her dorm sooner or later.

Locked Out Empty
PostSubject: Re: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptyTue Oct 29, 2013 12:53 pm

A sharp cry suddenly rang out as a gust of wind sent a flurry of papers out into the air, and Evelyn was left standing there with an arm outstretched as they flew off into the night sky. The girl considered going off to collect them until she saw that they had landed in hedges, trees, puddles, or were skitting across the wet bricks if they weren't flying beyond the fence. So much for piano sheets. They were the only reason she'd bothered entering this courtyard at night again, where she'd met Colette and... No, Evelyn didn't dare recall the memories of that night.

Her arms fell limp to her side as she stared off after the sheets, a blush rising to her cheeks as a group of passing students gave her an odd look before moving on. With a sigh, Evelyn began to walk back to her dorm, now without her papers and humiliated. This was a waste of time.

Locked Out Empty
PostSubject: Re: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptyTue Oct 29, 2013 7:29 pm

Person! Dorm!
Lotte spotted Evelyn, an acquaintance of her's, hurrying to the dorm. Having gotten used to seeing Evelyn on a near daily basis, the girl had come to recognize the faint peripheral blur as Evelyn. The girl looked defeated, and upon gazing around at the nearby shrubbery decorated with sheets of white, she understood why. Nevertheless, it was too chilly to just walk around. Lotte rushed after Evelyn, grabbing Ethel's hand. She didn't want to spook the girl, guessing she was still timid, but wanted to catch her before she retreated to a dorm she didn't have the key for once more.
"H-hey!" Lotte called.
"Slow down please, madam!" Ethel added uselessly.
The clicking of Lotte's uniform shoes on the glossy dormitory house floor should have been enough for Evelyn to hear her. The clicks outpaced Evelyn's, being faster in Lotte's effort to catch up with the girl.

Locked Out Empty
PostSubject: Re: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptyTue Oct 29, 2013 8:40 pm

Evelyn blinked as she heard a familiar voice behind her and the sounds of rushing footsteps. She froze up and dared a glance behind her, as if she expected some kind of monster to be giving chase. Lotte? And by the queer way the medium was holding out her hand, Ethel as well. The girl hugged her arms to her chest and nervously shuffled her feet as Lotte ran up. "U-um, hi." she called back, straining her voice to speak loudly but still ended up scarcely audible.

Locked Out Empty
PostSubject: Re: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptyWed Oct 30, 2013 2:32 pm

The girl smiled awkwardly, realizing that she had not fully thought the plan through. What was she going to ask of a girl from a different dorm? Her face reddened, but other than this she kept her outer tranquility.

"You see, I was locked out of the Autumn dorm. Is there any way you could help me find someone from the dorm?" Lotte asked, realizing how dumb this had sounded. She didn't want to bother the poor girl. This caused the girl to give a new option to what she had said. "...or, maybe, if I could wait inside your own dorm until someone unlocks the Autumn dorm? It is very chilly tonight."

She wrapped up this awkward plea with a warm smile, matching the heat in her face that had been brought about by her shameful blushing. Ethel said nothing, blinking and looking down on her shorter friend with a rather neutral countenance. She didn't know the proper way to speak to someone in the matter of persuasion in modern times, though she could tell that Lotte hadn't done so well.

Locked Out Empty
PostSubject: Re: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptyWed Oct 30, 2013 5:37 pm

"O-oh, um..." Evelyn shuffled her feet nervously at that. She didn't really want to stay out longer than she had to - she didn't even know who Lotte's roommates were. But sharing a room with her? For how long? That made her feel slightly uncomfortable... But the girl couldn't exactly turn her down, could she? Lotte would be outside in the cold for awhile if Evelyn refused. "...s-sure, y-you could stay in my dorm... I-I, uh, doubt anybody will mind..."

Lotte's smile grew more sincere as she nodded once more. "T-thank you. I promise not to disturb you." the girl assured, though it would be hard to not talk while she was with Ethel. She stood awkwardly, waiting for Evelyn to walk in so that she may. Oh, how embarrassing this was. She longed to be back in her own dorm, but everyone was out doing their usual Friday activities. She regretted being in the creative dorms of Autumn, where everyone flourished outside where they did activities.

Locked Out Empty
PostSubject: Re: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptyTue Nov 05, 2013 2:15 am

Evelyn nodded slightly with a forced smile and spun on her heel, walking towards the Winter dorms, still slightly unsure of what she had agreed to. Would Lotte just be staying over for a little while? For the whole night? Oh, God. If it was for the whole night, where would she sleep? The couch? Was that even allowed? How would she explain that to her roommates? Ohgodohgodohgod. Her heart was fluttering at a million miles per hour from the anxiety. She probably wouldn't want to sleep on the hard couch out in the living room, would she?

The walk continued in silence as they both entered the Winter dorm hall, stopping at the very first door, the small plaque under the peephole reading 101. Evelyn stuffed a hand down into her blazer pocket and pulled out a quaint pink flip-phone with two jingling keys attached. It was embarrassing to show to Lotte, almost. Her phone was practically a relic of the ancient past in technology terms, but it was all she had. The girl twisted a silver key in the lock and pushed, opening the door with a creak. It was dark and quiet inside, probably with everyone else out in Rosebury or messing around on campus.

"So, uh, t-this is it... heh..." Evelyn mumbled awkwardly as she walked in and flipped the switch, flooding the common room with light. What would they do now? Talk? Lotte was her guest in a way, so she ought to show her some hospitality. Maybe a conversation wouldn't be too bad. For whatever reason, Evelyn was feeling a bit lonely... maybe it was seeing the empty dorm or all of the people in the courtyard, but some company wouldn't go amiss. "Uh, f-feel free to t-take anyt-thing out of the k-kitchen..."

She gulped and screwed up her face as she tried to smooth out her stuttering when the girl spoke again. I must sound so awkward. she thought as she rubbed her sweaty palms on her skirt and took a couple of nervous steps inside. "I, um... we still nnneed to re... restock on groceries, so there's not mmmuch left, but, uh..." Her words sounded slurred and a bit too slow as she spoke them, and Evelyn gave up with a near inaudible sigh. The stutter had plagued her since she was a little girl, and sometimes it felt like every sentence was a challenge that would tie her tongue up in knots. When she felt more at ease and comfortable it was easier to talk, but that was rare around other people.

Perhaps conversation wasn't such a great idea after all. "Um... my room's over there." she said, pointing to an unmarked door to the left. "I've... I've gotta feed m-my fish, so, I'll... um... if you wanna... err..." Evelyn stared down at the floor and stuffed her hands in her pockets as her sentence trailed off, rocking back and forth on her her heels. She also had to change out of her school uniform, but that could definitely wait if Lotte accompanied her... if the medium even understood what she was saying.

To be honest, she had only asked in the first place because she thought it was a nice gesture, but now after the words left her mouth she wasn't so sure. Was that a weird thing to ask? "Hey, do you want to feed my fish?" Her older cousins had always asked whenever she was over and she had always been delighted to do it, but... well, it seemed like something you would ask a little kid, in hindsight. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

Lotte, however, was a bit childish when it came to things such as that. Over her campaign in Beata Academy, she'd seen some things and gone through some things that had jaded her personality, but the mention of feeding the tiny creature made her smile. "Of course! I'd love to feed the little guy." she told Evelyn with a bright expression, clamping her hands together in front of her. Ethel rolled her eyes. "Madam, it is but a fish--"
Lotte put a finger to her mouth, however, looking behind her and motioning to be quiet to the ghost in which Evelyn could not see. The gesture interrupted Ethel from giving the sentence a correct pause, and the ghost sighed, knowing her friend couldn't be helped.

Locked Out Empty
PostSubject: Re: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptyWed Nov 06, 2013 9:52 am

Evelyn nodded with a dazed smile and started towards the door. So she didn't misunderstand or think it was odd. That was good. Very good. "A-alright, right this way, heh..." she breathed. The girl slipped quietly out of her shoes by the door and pushed it gingerly open. The whole encounter felt a little odd... She didn't know Lotte that well, in truth. Just stay calm.

The room was plain and clean. Aside from the telltale signs of a residing student - the ruffled sheets, the papers laid out on the desk, the conspicuous tower of books stacked by the drawer - it looked as boring as it had when she'd just moved in. Sushi's fish tank was probably the most prominent feature of the whole place. The Betta fish was a navy blue with long flowing fins tinged with red, and swam mindlessly around a fake plant that swayed gently with the artificial current of the filter. The light from the built-in lamp danced on the artificial rocks that coated the bottom of the tank. Maybe it looked a little too fancy for a single fish, but Evelyn knew better than to just keep it in a tiny cramped bowl.

"His name's S-sushi." Evelyn said with a small blush. It was a slightly embarrassing name to give, but she had thought it funny at the time. She pointed at the small shaker beside the tank. TOP FIN: COLOR-ENHANCING TROPICAL FLAKES it read in big block letters, with the O stylized as a fish. "T-there's his flakes, just make sure t-to dash a little bit in... he's kind of a fattie. O-or you could try the bloodworms, b-but you probably don't want to t-touch those..."

Lotte followed her into the room, making sure to slip her own shoes off as well beside Evelyn's, making note of which side her pair was on. The cleanliness of the room was something Lotte herself could never keep up, her room a jumble of askew clothing and papers from school. The fish tank was the most impressive thing in the room, and upon the fish being explained to Lotte, she walked over and put her face to the tank.

"Hiya, Sushi!" she greeted with a smile, going for the shaker and making sure to put a small amount in her hand. "Is this good?" she asked Evelyn, bringing her hand to the girl for inspection.

"Mhm." Evelyn sounded with an affirmative nod as the flakes were presented to her. It seemed like Sushi had noticed it was feeding time too as he rubbed his face against the glass. It did look silly like that, especially with its upturned mouth. "Be a little c-careful." she said with a slight smile. "He might jump if he g-gets excited, heh... And, um, I w-wouldn't touch his bubbles... he gets kinda d-defensive." she said, looking past Lotte and at the foamy water on one side of the tank. Evelyn didn't see fit to tell Lotte that Sushi had coated said bubbles with his spit, but she still felt a warning was in order.

Lotte nodded, bringing her hand over the aquarium. Her hand contained half a dozen or so small pellets of food. Lotte let them drop from her hand, and at this very instant Sushi zipped to the top of the habitat, eating the little pellets that he initially could then catching those that floated to the bottom. The girl giggled at the sight of this, before putting the container holding the food back onto the desk in which it was originally placed.

Locked Out Empty

Evelyn couldn't help but smile too, but it faded slightly as Sushi quickly gobbled the rest of the flakes up. Now what? Was she supposed to say something? Start a conversation? But what if Lotte wanted to go to bed? And wouldn't it be weird to just start talking about something else anyways? This was all too confusing. The girl instead opted to stay quiet and look sheepishly down at the floor. Where was she sleeping, if she was really staying in the Winter Dorm for the night? Would she be going to sleep in her school uniform? Was Evelyn expected to give her clothes?

It would have been too awkward to ask Lotte her exact plans, so Evelyn bit back her questions and fiddled absentmindedly with her hands. The hour was getting late, but it was still a Friday. Most would be wanting to stay up for a few hours more and take advantage of the lack of classes the next day. But then again, most would rather not spend their Friday night talking with a slow-talking, stuttering, socially awkward girl either, and Lotte would probably be no different... if she did stay up and talk to her, it would be more out of obligation and politeness than anything. Maybe I should just go to bed now... Do everyone a favor.

PostSubject: Re: Locked Out   Locked Out EmptySat Nov 16, 2013 10:20 pm

Lotte found that the situation had been getting rather awkward as well, and being an Autumn, this was especially uncomfortable for the girl. She plopped onto Evelyn's bed, kicking off her shoes and stretching. "So, what's up with you, Evelyn? Anything going on in school? You attracted to any boys, or are you still sticking with that Jace fellow?"

She brushed Jace off as if he was a name she had heard of once or twice in the hallway, despite having been "sticking with that Jace fellow" in very recent times. Recently they had gone astray from each other, but Lotte didn't seem to notice. She just went with the flow of things.
