The Purest of the Pure

Chris flopped onto his bed, face first into a pillow. Everything was so dark and gloomy with the looming threat of The End over everyone's head it was hard to be anything other than bummed. He heard doors open but he didn't move, figuring it was probably Thomas or another of his roommates.

"Chris?" a soft voice called behind slow creaks from the door. Stephanie hugged the doorframe, eyes filled with concern as she stared at her best friend's back. The past few months had taken a toll on everyone, even the ever cheerful Chris. It was devastating to watch him wallow.

The girl was unsure as she stepped forward into the room. She wanted to do her best, to brighten up his day, but a confusing mix of emotions made it hard for her to fixate on one solid plan. The blonde wanted to drag him out and show him the sun as they sat around eating ice cream like they had in the past. On the other hand, a small part of her wanted to comfort him; to hold him in her arms, to cuddle him, to sit around doing nothing but talk to each other. It was... strange, this other part. She couldn't explain the desire to touch Chris. Somehow she knew it would cheer the boy up, this weird, unfamiliar feeling in her chest but the impulse was too foreign for her to show it.

"Why don't we do something? It's nice out today," the Summer inclined, pointing towards the sunlight that streamed out of the window blinds.

Chris pushed himself up at the sound of a familiar voice, causing his heart to flutter. Sitting up on his bed, he turned to face the girl and he immediately smiled. He couldn't explain it, but she really just shined in a way that brightened even the darkest of moods. "I dunno. Everything's been so tense lately that most people have kinda been a little icy towards everyone. What would we even do?" he asked.

Watching the smile flash across his face caused her own mouth to mirror. She was glad that even saying hello could bring out that bright, white smile of his. As an added bonus, he couldn't help but let out one of his signature ice puns, enticing a giggle from the blonde as she made her way to the bed. Plopping down beside her friend, the girl brought her legs up, hugging them lightly and turning her amber gaze to Chris. "It has been gloomy, huh?" A low hum escaped her lips as she pondered her choices. Go out and enjoy the day or stay inside and talk the night away...

"We could get ice-cream, like old times?" a small laugh interrupted her suggestion, "It doesn't matter... as long as I get to do it with you," Stephanie chirped.

Chris's stomach did a flip when she said that she just wanted to do something with him. He couldn't explain the feeling that he got when he thought about doing something with the girl, even something as simple as getting some ice cream. "Yeah, sure. That sounds like fun. It feels like it's been forever since we've done anything together." he told her, sliding off his bed.
