Summer holidays. Oh yeah.

Evelyn's life couldn't have been smoother at that point. School was over - that was good since she was barely invested enough in studying English and History and what not now that she was at Beata - meaning she was finally free to do whatever she wanted. Ditching the uniform, the Autumn slipped in the most ripped of jeans and the loosest of tank tops to practice her favorite hobby. Picking up dudes.

But of course, she wasn't that straight forward. It was all about being subtle and cool. So there she was. at the baseball pitch. Baseball wasn't technically her biggest skill. She watched it, occasionally, and often enough to know the basics. Time to impress. She chose out a bat and took a handful of balls with her as she strode through the neatly mowed lawn. The sun was killing her, even through her designer sun hat. She had never swung a bat before, she reminded herself, but how hard could it be.

Strike one. Evelyn swung clearly off target. Strike two. Same. Strike three. Out... for an ice cream then back at it. Again and again, she missed the ball and ended up panting with annoyance and looking around to make sure no one had been there to see her fail. She was growing tired, but in the end, she finally hit the ball.. And she hit it hard. It soared over the pitch and the last thing she heard was a distant grunt. The Autumn looked around with her teeth gritted, a true expression of "well you fucked up". Sighing, she took off to see whether she had hurt anybody beyond repair.

The Winter recoiled visibly as the sun hit him, shielding his eyes and face with his forearms.

It'd been somewhere around.. Two days, perhaps, since he'd last left his room? His perception of time wasn't exactly very sharp, but it had to be at least semi-accurate. He could already feel the sun seeping into his skin and clothing as he stepped gingerly out the exit of his dorm. The air was sticky. Roderick had never much enjoyed the heat or humidity of summertime, but even the air conditioner in his room running at full blast did little to chase the stench of marijuana away, which had been growing more and more potent as the days passed. A throbbing headache and steadily increasing feeling of suffocation had finally prompted him to take a breather.

Anytime he went anywhere, the stink followed him like a ghost. It was a wonder his roommates hadn't reported his illicit relationship with drugs to the staff yet. There was no possible way they hadn't noticed it, even with towels jammed into the space between the bottom of the door and the floor, so he was left to conclude that they simply didn't care.

Roderick trod lazily along the gravel path that stretched the entire length of the academy's yard, nonchalantly kicking small stones ahead of him as he trudged on. Looking up from the pathway to glance at anything stung his eyes too much, and even looking down, he had to use his hand as a makeshift visor. Perhaps shutting his curtains and lying around in complete darkness for the entire weekend hadn't been the greatest idea.

As he passed by the baseball diamond, he could hear somebody scuffling around in the distance, but he had to squint just to make out even the most vague image of a figure. He picked up the crack of the ball against the bat, but he did not see the ball sail into the air - and by some stroke of bad luck, right into his face. It nailed him squarely in the middle of his forehead and knocked him right off of his feet.

Evelyn was slightly taken aback by the person she had managed to knock out. She remembered him, vaguely. He still smelled like weed, which was kinda concerning. It brought back memories from the day the both celebrated 420 in a janitor's closet with another couple of drastically less drugged people. She wasn't even sure they knew each others' names, but she figured the place and time hey had first met at weren't a good place to exchange personal information.

Friends or not, she couldn't ignore the sore, ball-shaped mark on his forehead. It looked pretty serious, and the guy was sprawled on the ground, out cold. Something about the way he smelled like drugs made her nervous about taking him in front of the nurse. Sighing, the Autumn tried hoisting his arm over her shoulders, but he was too heavy. Instead, she began dragging him on the lawn until she reached the bleachers. With one last push, she dragged the Winter into the little shade under the benches. Now that they were here, she had to figure out a way to wake him up until someone came and thought she was mugging him after hitting him in the head with a bat.

One moment, he'd been watching somebody practice their batting, and the next, he could feel cool grass tickling his arms and neck. His headache had increased tenfold. It was as if a dozen knives were stabbing at it every few seconds, and it made it difficult to open his eyes even a sliver. There was someone standing over him - a girl - but it was hard to tell how far away from him she really was.. Or how many heads she had. Everything was spinning, and doubled, and tiny white stars dotted his vision.

"God.." Roderick pinched his eyes shut again, growing nauseous from trying to focus, and reached up to carefully touch his forehead. It was tender, and searing-hot, like a burn. There was a large, rounded bump in place of the flat surface he'd been expecting.

Evelyn watched with relief as the boy finally begun to open eyes. He must've felt a hundread times worse than he looked. Well, than his wound looked. The Autumn found herself mildly annoyed that she had just thrown away the shot at a perfectly good looking guy. Oh well, maybe all wasn't lost.

She sat down on the grass next to him and took a long look at the bruise decorating his entire forehead. "You are gonna need a hat for that." she advised, a small twinkle in her eyes. "Maybe brownish. Something to bring out those freckles you've got. I'm Evelyn... I think we've met before." she introduced herself, studying the boy as he slowly gained full awareness of his suroundings. She hadn't noticed before, the unkept nails, the dark rings around his eyes, but the guy looked like the picture of miserableness, plus the thick stink of drugs that followed him around full-time.

His eyelids flickered hesitantly open again. The double vision and the ringing sensation in his ears were both slowly beginning to subside, but the pounding in his head showed now signs of letting up any time soon. As the girl's three heads melded into two, and finally back into one again, the details of her face became clear.

He'd met this girl before. It'd been back in April sometime, hadn't it? Roderick had been so faded that he was surprised he could recall anything from that night at all. "..You're the one who couldn't count to ten," he rasped with the faintest touch of a grin, settling his hand on his belly. With a grunt of effort, Roderick pulled himself up into a sitting position, and was immediately met with another wave of nausea. "Jesus.." He clasped the sides of his head, concentrating very hard on keeping his breakfast down. "What hit me? A brick?"

Evelyn snorted. At least his memory hadn't faded and she didn't have to be responsible for a case of amnesia or anything like that. It occurred to her that his memory was even better. By the state they had been in that night, remembering something other than the smell that still mildly haunted that janitor's closet was something. She looked at him with worry as he began clutching his head. It looked painful, probably it was, and she felt pity towards him, maybe a slight guilt for what she had done.

"Ha ha, noooooo. It was an evil eagle and it came for your head and I saw it and I tried to bat it off and I successfully defeated it but it had poisoned you with it's venomous claws and you were knocked out and now we need to get the antidote from the other side of the rainbow!" she paused. "I shot a ball straight it your forehead."

Roderick looked up at Evelyn with an expression somewhere between confusion and alarm as she told her fable, almost seeming to half-believe it himself. Before he could ask, though, she corrected herself with the truth. Yeah, a baseball mishap seemed.. A little more probable than a venomous eagle attack.

How hard had she swung the bat if it'd been enough to knock him out? He wagered the great lump now present on his forehead was nearly the same size as the ball itself..

"'Oughtta try out for a baseball team, hey?" The telepath sniffed, hunching over and cautiously prodding at his inflamed forehead once more. He could feel a sticky wetness as he ran a finger along his hairline. It stung to touch, so something told him it wasn't just sweat. Roderick glanced over at the bat Evelyn had discarded out on the sand and then back at her, wiping his hand on his shirt and raising an eyebrow. "Mean arm ye got there, mate. You sure a piece of my brain didn't fly outta my head?"

Watching him pick at his wound was probably the worst part. It was a horrific red bump, mildly bleeding from torn skin. Evelyn was confused, really. She never really experienced being wounded, apart from torns she could easily sew shut without a bit of pain. What she had given Roderick was pretty impressive, even for an accident. Could she really just leave him without seeing the nurse? Again, she was worried they'd find the smell of weed on him and that wasn't going to be good for neither of them.

"If I join the team, you'd be my practice dummy. And no, from what I can tell, there were no pieces of brain on the ground next to you." she informed him. "Um, if you want, you can drop by my dorm. I mean, I'm sure you can get yourself a cold wet towel in your room too, erm." she got up, slightly crouched so that she won't hit the top of her head on the bleachers.

Practice dummy? Roderick imagined that if he volunteered for that, then he surely would get part of his brain knocked out.. Actually, now that he stopped to consider it, his head had felt quite crowded for the past year-and-a-half. So many little chattering people, so little room for them to go about their business. Perhaps doing away with a bit of it would relieve him. He picked a blade of grass out of his hair, simpering to himself at the prospect, but before he could get too lost in thought, Evelyn spoke again.

The boy's attention snapped back to her. Hold on, what? "My dorm? Uh, n-no, no," he stammered, grimacing briefly at his headache. "I don't think.. Ah, that's not a great.. Idea.." The Winter trailed off, scrambling for an excuse. His dorm-room, at the moment, was probably three felonies contained on one small area. The pungent odor that hung in the air was enough to make someone's eyes water, but most importantly, the paraphernalia from which the smell came lay just out of plain sight, waiting to be unearthed accidentally by an unsuspecting visitor. Roderick had been careful to keep people - even people who had seen him light up before - out. It would stay that way, concussion or not. ".. It, ehm.. It's a real disaster. Hardout nasty. You wouldn't last five minutes in there without you head popping."

He waved a hand dismissively in a poor attempt to disguise his alarm, and then gripped one of the support beams of the bleachers, poising to pull himself up to his feet.

Evelyn nodded. Granted that somebody's dorm was something that was directly linked to their appearance, personality, and other stuff, she could tell as much that the dorm couldn't be in a good shape. At least Roderick wasn't denying the fact. Brushing dust off her jeans, the Autumn left cover of the bleachers. The sun was burning hot, making her shield her face for a moment. Being out of the shade reminded her that she was getting tired and sweating from the heat. Sighing, she figured they should hurry up indoors before the other got a sunburn. Since her skin was much like cloth, there wasn't much danger for her, but Roderick was another story.

"My dorm it is then." she mumbled, regretting not packing her sunglasses when she moved to Beata to learn to master her gift. "But really, stop telling people to stay out of your dorm like you have a dead body in there. Unless you do, in which case... well, that'd be kinda messed up." Evelyn said as she waited for the boy to join her out in the burning sun so they could get to the hallways of the academy and the sweet refreshing cold of an AC.
