| Someone had yanked the fire alarm.
At first she'd thought it was a prank, or just some last ditch attempt to weasel out of class for the day, but no, there was an actual fire. Worse, she'd started the fire. Oops. Shit happened sometimes. The alarm bell screeched through the halls, ringing over the din of pounding feet and screaming students. On cue, the sprinklers sputtered to life, spraying down the wall posters, the children, and the fire within seconds. Wisps of smoke mingled with the artificial mist that flooded through the locker-lined corridor. Maybe a minute later, there were two to three inches of water filling up on the floor. The sprinklers still hadn't stopped.
Poppy strolled down the hall, her hair and clothes plastered to her skin, whistling.

| As soon as the fire alarm rang Rob thought it was just another drill. He lazily stood up from his desk not caring about the sound that rang in his ears from how loud it was. Though things changed shortly after when the sprinklers started going off soaking practically everything around them. Rob didn't care about getting wet but soon after being soak became annoying so he used his gift to block the water from touching him even more.
He stepped out into another hall only to find a girl whistling and seemingly enjoying what is occurring. "You aren't bothered by this?" He asked the girl. The water that managed to soak his eye patch was starting to irritate the empty eye socket behind it. He should have worn his glass eye today.

| What was going on? Was this a drill? Even if it wasn't it really put a dampener on Luise's mood. She huddled to herself because the water was cold and she sloshed her way through the hallway, meeting a girl who was enjoying herself and a boy who was seemingly deflecting the water off of him. She nearly ran into the boy and quickly turned to him, apologizing. "Oh, I'm so sorry, I almost slipped in all this water," she said, brushing the soaking wet hair out of her face. She looked up at the boy then at the girl, unsure of what they were doing basically just standing there while it rained on them. Why was she just standing there, she could've just apologized and went on her way. But Luise saw this as an opportunity to make a friend or two. | |

| Whistle and walk casual. That's what you were supposed to do to look innocent, but all of a sudden, it seemed like all eyes were on her. Or, uh, eye. "I guess I don't mind it," she answered, lifting her eyes tot he ceiling where the water sprayed down. "My nana used to say that when it rains while the sun was shining, the devil was beating his wife. So this is like punching the devil's wife in the face, I guess." She scratched the back of her neck and reached to pull a plastic bottle of off-brand Nesquik out of her pocket. Poppy flicked her thumb, ptng!, and the cap went shooting off like a bullet into the ceiling.
"Aw, frick..."
She tipped the bottle back and guzzled half of it down, not even sparing a second glance to the girl who almost went careening into the other boy. "Careful," she said all-too-late, wiping her mouth off with her sleeve, "it's wet."

| Rob didn't really get how that related to the current situation. This wasn't rain, it was like rain but it wasn't rain because it wasn't coming from the sky. He didn't flinch when the cap of the bottle went shooting off into the ceiling. He was used to strange things around here, rather he looked up at the hole in the ceiling for a moment before the other girl ran into him. "Well okay then. Nothin new there." He turned just in time to see the other girl stop short of him.
"Are you okay?" Robert asked the girl. He hadn't seen either of them before. They honestly shouldn't be standing around right now in the water, the should probably get out of here and outside so they can't be accounted for, but he wasn't in a rush to get outside. He preferred to move slowly.

| Luise gave an innocent smile towards the girl. "Well no shit. I couldn't tell," she said in a lighthearted tone. It was hard not to reply like that, even though she knew the girl's voice was dripping with sarcasm. Turning back to the boy, she nodded. "Oh yeah I'm fine. Just a little wet is all," the purple haired girl said, noticing that in the dimly lit hallway her wings were slightly misdirecting a few of the droplets of water here and there. Only a slight shimmer could be seen, however. | |

| "It's like a flippin' slip-and-slide in here," Poppy droned in agreement, knocking back another swig of Nesquik like it was whiskey. The squeals of surprise continued around them as students rushed to shelter. "Frankly, I don't see what everyone's fussin' over." People went to water parks for fun, and this was kind of like a water park, just spontaneous. Spontaneity was fun. Her class had a field trip to an indoor water park once, but they didn't have enough money to go, so her pa just pushed her into the Mississippi. Anyway, that was how she learned to swim.
If you wanted the story of how this had all started, they had to flash back to about three minutes ago.
'Fudge.'
Her new locker had been jammed. She'd decided to use her gift to just break the lock open. In a chain reactions she couldn't quite describe, except with bwoooooom noises and some charades for sparks and ricochets, her locker had been engulfed in flames. It was like the freakin' furnace of heck jumping out at her, like her nana had always warned. She tried to grab the fire extinguisher, but her gift kicked it to the end of the hall and it shot off like a rocket, its little hose thing blasting anyone caught in its path. Her gosh-forsaken gift mastery homework packet started burning up, which was good because she hadn't done any of it, but then all the evil from within got unlocked and all this black smoke started spewing out. That was when the sprinklers started up.
Of course, she hadn't caught most of it. As soon as her padlock started bouncing off the walls, she'd already looked both ways for teachers and ambled off down the hall. She'd only realized how big the flames had grown with a furtive glance over her shoulder as she turned the corner, along with the rank scent of ash. Nana had always said demons smelled like sulfur, but she hadn't believed her until she smelled her homework curling up in the fires.
Now here she was. It was a thrilling tale of suspense she was going to keep all to herself.

| "I can understand why people are fussing some of em have important stuff they need to keep dry." He said, his single eye looking towards some people at the end of the hall going to escape the water, which Robert was evading just fine with his gift. His hands were stuff into his pockets and the water that was puddling around their feet for everyone else avoided him like the plague.
"So what are your names? And we should probably get out of here so the teachers won't think we caused this." The autumn prefect suggested. He didn't want to deal with any paperwork that might come along with being caught with two students still inside the building while everyone else was fleeing.

| Luise brushed a few strands of wet hair out of her face and followed the other students' eyes as the looked at the people dashing out of the building to avoid getting wet. "I wouldn't have such a problem with the water if it didn't make me so darn cold," she replied, a shiver passing through as if the world cold somehow triggered it. Turning to the boy with the eye patch, she introduced herself. "I'm Luise. What's yours?" She ruffled her barely visible wings as best she could without using her energy to manifest them completely so she could get the water off of them. They didn't really like the feeling of being weighed down with water. Or anything, for that matter. They never have. | |

| Um. Right. "Yupp. We wouldn't want them to think that. Definitely not." Poppy put a hand behind her neck and started whistling again, following Mad-Eye Moody's advice to cheese it before any teachers decided to pry into the pleasant casual conversation. Luise. Eyepatch guy. Great names. Solid names. Actual names. "Poppy," she answered. Y'know, like in Flanders' fields. | |

| "Nice to meet you Luise and Poppy, Name's Rob." The autumn prefect. "So what are your gifts, I have sort of seen Poppy's over here at work from things being shot into the ceiling." Robert asked as they walked to get out of the slowly flooding building. They could probably already tell his from how he was keeping the water off of him but there was a chance they still didn't know. | |

| "I have wings!" she said cheerfully. Luise continued on with the two and realized that Poppy had been the one to set off the sprinklers. Not that the the purple haired girl was bitter about getting drenched. Definitely not. Maybe a little. She looked at the boy. "What about you? Are you hydrophobic or something?" | |
