A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptyTue Jun 14, 2016 6:54 pm

Anyone should know that a crippled person, especially someone confined to a wheelchair and couldn't move around properly, should not be in the middle of unknown territory alone. Even he himself knew that it was very dangerous to be here now that it was dark and bleak, without so much as a spec of sunlight to light the way. A never-ending wallowing abyss, that's what it was.

Under normal circumstances, he would've visited sometime in the morning where he could see over-arching vaults of leaves and roots and avoid the limbs that stretched out over the forest floor while being slightly more wary in a few things, such as the possibility that the wheels attached to his seat could easily stumble on the uneven surfaces - what, with the number of pebbles, twigs, and unturned stones lying around everywhere - and toss him off or coming across a slope and rolling downhill without any brakes. Either one would be bad, the latter being far worse, only because it had the chance of breaking the mechanism that he used on a daily basis to move around. Without it, trying to maneuver and work his way through some of the simpler tasks would prove to be more difficult than necessary, and if he had to be honest with himself, he would prefer not to expend so much energy over something that simple.

Normal circumstances or not however, this was very unavoidable. After the events of today, or moreso the first half of the day, he found it fit that he was heading in here alone without Adeline knowing. She was under the assumption that he was heading back to Rosebury to where he was staying for the next few days, and in a way, he was. He was just taking the long way back, and for good reason. It was really late at night by now, his watch saying about 2:14 AM, and here he was, outside in this place trying to look for Magic. A silent promise to speak to him about everything later, and most of all, to apologize as well. From the scattered calls throughout the six months he had finally woken up, she said that Magic often retreated to the forest when he needed to cool down.

He understood that sentiment all too well. While his family first lived in France and they had only moved to Massachusetts this year, those moments when he had visited Adeline and Kearn at their new home in the United States, he would often seek solace at their secret hideout. His mind often drifted back to the towering tree that sat at the edge of the cliff, acting as a silent sentinel for him while the exquisiteness of the dawn's light lanced into the lush, green swards before the black hoods of the shadows overcast the area. If he could, he would have gone there every single morning.

The deep, haunting ballad of an ancient song, the low rumbling and howling in the distance plucking at the strings of the symphony as they each contributed their own harmony and melody to the tune, Callum couldn't help but feel a few chills running down his spine. He wasn't scared of the dark, but something about the forest seemed very unsettling in the middle of the night. Perhaps it was the coils of vaporous mist twisting and turning around the shaggy heads of oak trees, writhing around as though they were snakes, sensuous and illusory. Sieves of fog caressed the lichen-encrusted bark, adding its phantasmal gas to the damp breath of the secluded world, gliding intently throughout. It deadened sound, haunted glades, and poured into empty spaces. A sepulchral silence hung over the hallowed ground. Nothing seemed to be around, nothing seemed to move, and nothing sang. Only a whispering echo with the hollows of what remained, with the hushed tones of a great, slabbed cathedral that entombed the floor.

A gurgling sound could be heard a little further as water met stone; a swish, a clunk, a swell, and a clop. Only the moist air seemed to be there, a dense and suffocating scent - it seemed to smell of absolutely nothing but there was most certainly something. He leaned back slightly, placing his head on the wheelchair's cushioned surface, closing his eyes briefly, letting a stream of consciousness take hold as he drifted to infinity. His arms hung limp, too exhausted to move any further, breathing ragged. Callum reached into his pockets, pulling out a container with pills and promptly took one. This was something he should've done earlier or before he entered the school. Stupid. It would've made that much of a difference. I'm so tired.

Something shook.

One moment, he was resting on steady ground. The next, he was falling backwards and tumbling. On instinct, he quickly formed a shield to ease the damage he would've taken. It was far weaker than it should've been, breaking on impact and sending him rolling as another chunk of his strength shaved away. By the time it was all settled and he was left on the cold forest floor, he could barely move. Callum winced, a searing pain striking through one arm as he found it jammed in the remains of his now broken wheelchair. His breathing slowed down even more as he felt a warm substance pooling from the wound. Crap. He didn't have a light to help him see how to move everything decently and get out of this. He should've planned this out better. If he had to wager, his phone was cracked and destroyed.

With a gust of wind, he took the easy way out and blew the broken handicapped device off with whatever strength he could muster. The rest was used to at least attempt to stand upright, but only ended in failure with his back still on the ground and legs remaining useless. Hah, who was he kidding? It had only been half a year and even with rehabilitation, he couldn't walk all that well without assistance. He should've been more careful, tried to stay on task, but there he went again, letting his thoughts wander off.

A dark figure towered over him. There wasn't any light to help him distinguish and for a few moments, he thought he had gotten lucky and someone managed to find him within the labyrinth of a forest. His head was starting to spin again. Callum hesitated for a few moments before reaching his uninjured arm out towards the unknown person.

Within moments, he found that it wasn't a person, but rather a gray wolf that opened its month, chomping on his arm and giving it a vicious yank. He shrieked in pain, struggling against it in a futile effort with the lack of use of his legs. Warding it off with a wind-infused punch in unthinking desperation, he quickly forced himself to stand with the energy he received from a flight-or-fight response, a wind barrier encircling him. Staggering upright, he found it worse that the wolf seemed to have brought its family as well, hearing the snarls around as they voiced themselves one by one.

The blood from before must have brought them here. Any blood brought a predator near.

Trying to run wasn't an option and he didn't have all that much strength to fight. He just wanted to survive - having experiences with death more than once was already enough. This wasn't the first time, it was probably not going to be the last. Miracles didn't come very often. They were called miracles because they had a chance of happening. It hadn't even been a year yet, since his eyes had fluttered open and he saw everything around him once more. It hadn't been long since he thought he had taken his last breath when the car collided into him and shut him down faster than he could even utter a word. He didn't want to die like this. If he would go down, it would be on his own terms. That was what he had always thought was, at the very least, within his control.

But even that was too much to ask, wasn't it?

When one charged in, he attempted to defend himself, but his punches held no strength and his kicks were rubbery and weak. Accumulating new injuries only exacerbated his old ones. His eyes stung, wheezing. He managed to keep them at bay for the time-being, but any longer and it would be the end. If he had just a bit more power, he could seal off his wounds or dart into the air. But he didn't. He was completely drained, tottering back and forth with only breezes surrounding him.

His vision blurred in and out of focus, but it was enough to recognize the shadows of creatures that were intent on slicing him into ribbons. Dread filled his lungs as he found himself violently coughing. Not long enough of a time for the medicine to take effect. Both of his arms were torn and useless, he could barely stay on his feet. Once they were close enough, they would realize he didn't have the power to fight back any longer. The shield that enveloped him was starting to flicker and fade away. His hand trembled, trying to find any more energy to sing through his veins and alter the pressure in the air enough that he could cease the bleeding, but that wouldn't put him into fighting condition. It was too weak and not an efficient method of healing.

Giving up now was the last thing he wanted. His thoughts drifted to his two best friends and their reactions to the idea that he died the morning after their birthday. No, he wasn't going to die here. Somehow, in some way, he would live. He had to. Death had knocked on his door many times before, but he had always escaped. He wouldn't let the reaper claim him here. Not now. That was for another time.

...

And to think that he hadn't gone in deep enough to try and find Magic, that he was going to dive in even more after all of this.

The first wolf darted forward, baring its fangs.

PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptyThu Jun 16, 2016 7:42 pm

Magic couldn't help it.. He had to get out of there or things would have gone badly for everyone. He already caused enough issues as it was. He really didn't need a repeat of the whole airport situation except this time with faces he was familiar with. The screams would finally be given faces in his nightmares, and they were sort of toning down too. Well a very very small amount. They were still there enough to make sure he wouldn't be able to sleep except maybe a short time that he needed when he just didn't have the energy anymore, it was a bit helpful that he developed insomnia. He could go a few many days without that much sleep, and it was working.

Magic wanted to go to the gym and get his frustrations out on one of the punching bags, but that would require him running into students on the way seeing how most of them would be out and about doing things since school was out for the time being. So the forest it was. A place that was pretty much clear anywhere you went unless you were one of the ones who managed to get unlucky and run into someone else. Well this time Magic got lucky. He went out into the forest and found a nice quite spot where he could think things through and eventually ended up downing a tree from getting rid of his frustrations. He also used up his last cigarette in that time emptying the pack he had completely. No more smoking for him.

After he managed to fell a tree completely the winter wandered elsewhere in the forest, and eventually settling down in a tree where he could see the growing number of stars from where he was sitting. He had managed to fall asleep for a short time before being woken up suddenly from a nightmare of the same things he had been getting nightmares about for ages, and ended up falling off his perch. He manged to put himself back into the tree and sit with his thoughts until around two am.

Magic heard the howls of the animals in the distance, it would be hard for him not to seeing how he heard pretty much everything. He could also hear something moving a bit far from him, but he assumed it was just another animal, there were a few of those out here. He could deal with anything that came his way, but he was glad he was in a tree and not having to watch his back just in case an animal decided it wanted to jump on him an attack him. He sat back and closed his eyes for a moment taking in all the sounds he was hearing trying to figure out what was wear though it was kind of hard because of all the little noises. The louder the noise the easier it was to locate.

It was a relatively calm night. Probably one of the better nights he had spent out here, but the peace was soon disturbed by a loud shriek of pain. Immediately the winter straightened up focusing in on the sound, trying to determine what let out the sound. In a moment Mason was jumping down from the tree and going over to the location he heard the noise from. He didn't really have a sight to help him find the location or his way around so he ended up using the sounds to find his way.

As soon as he got there he saw a wolf getting read to jump for the person he heard a few moments earlier, though he was still a bit unsure who it was. As soon as he saw the wolf jump, the winter stepped forward brought his leg around knocking the wolf which earned a loud yelp from the creature. As soon as that dog was taken care of Magic stepped between the person and the dangerous creatures. There was a bit to many to worry about himself so he just ended up emitting a sound the was like a dog whistle. It was loud enough for the dogs to turn tail and run from the uncomfortable noise they were hearing.

Once the dogs were go the winter stood in his spot for a moment to make sure they wouldn't come back. Once he heard them far enough away he turned to the person whom he had helped. "Are you alright?" He asked clearly calmer than before.

A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptyThu Jun 16, 2016 10:17 pm

Drawing a sharp breath, Callum murmured to himself, forcing his body to relax and raised his arms into a defensive stance, his legs shifting back in an almost wobbly manner that, were it not for the breezes keeping him lifted, would've snapped like lead with so much as a tiny nudge with a twig or a poke. With the odds pitted against him, the chances of making it out of the forest alive was rather minimal. Even if he did somehow manage to get the wolves away from him, the trek to Rosebury would be near impossible. He'd pass out and then those predators would come back to feast on vulnerable prey. Easy food, easy life. The thought of that sort of fate seemed a fitting punishment the more he contemplated within the time that crawled at a snail's pace.

Teeth that mimicked mini spearheads closed in, looking to rip out any sort of flesh stained with red or so whenever possible, and he was about ready to at least try to push it aside when something seemed to pierce through his chest, driving a stake through his heart and knocking the wind out of his body. Everything around him went into overdrive, adrenaline pulsating through his veins with loud booms, sound growing faint and distant before the volume was cranked up ten notches, swaying back and forth in an indecisive manner. Black blossoms cascaded his vision, darker than the murkiness that he knew was around with the moving silhouettes smeared against one another into a large blob that made individual shapes almost impossible to distinguish. Gasping for air burned like a fire summoned by Satan himself from his throne in the underworld. Millions of insects and metal placed over a furnace scalded the area in question, and his hand grasped up towards his neck as he collapsed onto his knees, his other arm being used as a balance.

His head was throbbing, eyes watery as his breathing only grew more raspy and shallow. Heartbeats seemed to accelerate with the intent of speeding past its limits, unafraid of any police that would prevent to stop it and charge it with a crime that it didn't want to admit that it committed. Harmless fun was all it seemed to think about, coming up on occasion here and there like a prank, messing him up whenever he needed to focus most or do his best. Similar to a bully. The sound of something slamming into the large canine and an irritated whine barely registered in his mind, but it was enough for him to turn his head to the source, holding his breath with a mix of hope and dread. It was too hard to see. For all he knew, it was another wolf, the alpha, coming to beat up the pack and take him as a prized trophy to gobble down on its own.

But the shape seemed too big, much more human-sized.

Was it actually someone else this time?

A storming stampede of footsteps darted away from where he was, and Callum finally let his breath go, regretting the decision to keep it in as he found himself uncontrollably hacking away, his chest tightening and writhing from the excruciating flame lighting within. Like a serpent wrapping around his heart and squeezing it until the last drop of blood splashed out and the final pulse let out a helpless beat to stay alive. Small beads of sweat dripped down the side of his face, covering his forehead in a thin sheen. The sensation was crushing and stole every gulp of air away.

Hearing a familiar voice was practically a gift sent down from the heavens, a blessing.

Adrenaline-laden warmth flooded out from his core to his extremities, a tingling feeling stretching to every nook and cranny possible. It entranced him, made him find a bit more power from within to conjure another wind to support him, albeit on very clumsy feet that would drop if he weren't careful, much less with the grace of a newborn giraffe trying to take its first steps. His fingers clutched his bloody, jammed arm as the air around the torn flesh filled littered with bite marks quickly pressurized itself enough to forcibly seal anymore blood from pouring out like a river with the bit of power that he could get to manipulate the flighty element. Now that he could actually tell, his uniform was torn and his gloves were covered with grit, frayed and plastered with holes in random patterns.

Now that his head was more clear, the sudden pain ebbing away as though it never existed, it seemed almost unreal. How? Magic shouldn't have been able to track him down that easily, superhearing or not. The woodlands were layered with puzzles and riddles, making it more difficult to navigate than necessary, especially now when the moon was glistening at its highest. It was far too dark. But he didn't bother to question it any further. A saving grace, a deus ex machina, whatever it was, it was a relief. Pure luck saved him this time, and he was glad that life seemed to be treating him so kindly these past few days.

Weariness washed over him in a sudden wave and eroded his will to keep standing, his jaw clenching as he forced himself to stay upright and not let his limit dissuade him.

It was hard to confirm whether it was Magic or not when all he could see was a dark doll of pitch black. The only thing that he had as evidence was his voice, and even then, he could be hallucinating or hearing things. Maybe he was already dead and this was some stupid afterlife. He wasn't sure. Trying to pinch himself didn't seem fit. His fingers grasped for another pill, only to be severely disappointed when he found that the container was no longer on his body. That contained the dosage for an entire month, and he lost it within the span of an hour.

Whatever Magic had asked, it slipped out of his mind. Callum could take a bet on what he said though, through heavy breaths as he allowed himself to laugh a little before immediately regretting that decision when a stabbing awareness splattered across his lungs once more. "That's a... pretty bad question... to ask." At this point in time, it seemed easier to give in to the suffering and faint on his savior, but now that he actually found Magic, that seemed to be more of a stupid decision. Besides, the other student would probably take him to the infirmary and the last thing he wanted was for Adeline to find out he was in there from this mess, let alone Kearn.

Wryly, a smirk deepened on his features, but he was sure that Magic couldn't see it. Not that it mattered when his words were as transparent as ice in their meaning.

"I didn't think... I was important enough..." Callum paused mid-sentence, inhaling deeply now that he managed to extinguish the fire emblazoned in his own chest - until next time, at least. He would have to drop by a drug store if there was one in Rosebury or talk to the academy nurse. "For you to consider saving."

A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptySat Jun 18, 2016 4:33 pm

Magic was able to find Callum because of knowing the forest. He had spent a lot of time in the forest and was familiar with it's tricks and puzzles, and there was the fact he didn't exactly need to see to move around. The sound waves bouncing around told him exactly where things were and what to avoid. The louder the sound the easier it was to locate something. Magic looked down at the dark shape waiting for a reply, and when he got one a frown crossed his features. "Ya know asking that lets me know if you are awake or not." He replied. If he had gotten no answer then obviously he needed to get to the infirmary as fast as he could.

Magic bent down next to the boy. "Anything that needs to be treated immediately?" He asked, running down a checklist he had when helping someone. He had to do this a few times with Laine, and then many times with other gang members. If anything needed attention immediately, Magic had a jacket he could sacrifice to put pressure on wounds until he could get him to the infirmary. If not then they could wait until the bleeding stopped if nothing was bad enough.

As soon as he heard Callum mention being important for saving or not, Mason froze. He may have been selfish, but he wasn't selfish enough to help someone. Besides it wasn't that much of a risk to him fighting some wolves. "Well you hadn't done anything to offend me in anyway. There wasn't a risk to my life in helping you. Now tell me, is there anything I need to rush you to the infirmary for?" He asked wanting to avoid the subject of whether someone was worthy of Magic saving.

A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptySat Jun 18, 2016 7:03 pm

Humorlessly, he laughed in reply, permitting his knees to buckle as the currents of air dissipated from around him. It was as though Magic was implying he couldn't hear him coughing and signing a contract to enter his deathbed. Was that really why he asked the question or was it simply empty words to force-feed some sort of kindness? There was no need for the more lean and physically stronger boy to be so considerate at the current point of time, especially after what Callum had pulled earlier - or rather, the day before. That must've put Magic on edge enough that he wouldn't bother trying to rescuing the guy that had let a reality crumble before his very eyes. For an intelligent student, he sure was terrible at putting clues together. Not that he could criticize or say that. With care, he shifted into a sitting position, leaving his legs lifelessly stretched out in front of him. Trying to stand was such a chore, anyway. There was no point taking advantages of the elements to fulfill a measly task that he couldn't do on his own like a normal person.

He tilted his head back and closed his eyes, the gentle gales around whispering unintelligible words and carrying with them the phrases and sounds of the night creatures and stalkers that prowled around and about. The forest was known for its diversity in animals, and the one by the school was no different, boasting a strong and steady variety, all held together by the thin threads of a single web. Owls with their bright, glowing eyes glimmering from tree hollows as they mournfully joined into their serenades, bees humming in and out of the pennyroyals as cicadas buzzed away in their eternal squalls. Funny how a world so inviting and pleasant turned into a grotesque hunt where a sudden movement or shadow dancing caused heads to turn and to be startled so easily, all because of the absence of light.

For a few moments, he stayed silent. The excuse was that he did need to catch his breath and calm himself down a bit. Two attacks within less than twenty-four hours was abnormal, though that was his fault for not being very good at timezones and listening to the doctors, as he should've. Maybe that too was an excuse. His mood was more morbid as of late, and he liked to torture himself every once in awhile, so long as it wasn't a certain woman causing the damage. Adeline would be very upset if she knew that he still had this mindset, but he couldn't control his relapses all that much. Being positive all the time was an impossible task with that constant reminder around, preying on him to try and seize control at any second. It put him on guard.

But his use had probably exhausted itself in the first place. She didn't plan for him to become a cripple and now, he was simply a disposable tool that had its uses once in a millennium. That was probably the only reason why he was allowed on this trip in the first place. For information. What good was he outside of that? Callum bit back a bitter laugh when he realized how pathetic it was - even now, Magic probably only saved him because he had knowledge and facts that he couldn't obtain on his own. An encyclopedia at best, garbage at worst. Really, it was fitting.

The pain of living wasn't worth it. Suffering was more excruciating and being able to breath was a constant reminder of the day-to-day relentless thoughts and attacks that plagued him.

After what seemed to be an eternity, Callum answered, "No, nothing fatal." The blood that had welled up from falling backwards had now dried, drenching his uniform's sleeves and hardening it into solid fabric. "I'll live." Good thing Sofia provided multiple sets, otherwise he would be waltzing around the campus in casual clothes and beaten senseless by the higher-ups.

Beata's European counterpart was very strict and traditional to the point where one had to wonder how conservative they were. Probably hadn't changed much since the Greco-Roman philosophers founded the academy and antiquity was a prominent part of life. Unsurprisingly, the codes and conduct hadn't been altered too much. After all, who could criticize a grand founder like Aristotle? Or was it Socrates? He didn't care.

Taking jabs at people every now and then was entertaining, as much as he hated to admit it to himself. Magic seemed very uncomfortable with what he had said before, what about his lack of consideration and the like. It had taken him aback that Magic of all people had appeared to help. Would've been so much easier to let him die, wouldn't it? No need to find out any more, no need to know what Adeline had been doing for herself. Magic could've remained blissfully unaware of what was happening and still think it was okay. She could've passed peacefully too - that was her plan, he knew. The very idea of it sickened him as he grimaced. That wasn't enough to stop his next words, however. "Oh? So who would you save if your life was on the line?"

From the sound of it - he didn't need to be a genius to tell -, Magic wasn't the kind of person to go around and do charity work. He wasn't the benevolent sort that would stop on the streets to help a homeless orphan out or lend a hand to the disabled. Things didn't matter so long as he was alive and well. Adeline may have avoided telling him a lot of this firsthand, but he wasn't dumb. Being a gang leader and getting into fights often, for the pleasure of it all, was a huge hint. She barely hinted at it, but it had intrigued him enough to research. He didn't hear about the airport incident firsthand. One woman couldn't help but complain and whine about how she wished she were the one who had been involved instead of some masked freak, and that alone was enough to perk his interest. Adeline slipping up only solidified everything.

"You wouldn't have bothered if I wasn't of some use to you."

A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptySat Jun 18, 2016 7:54 pm

"Oh yeah?" He asked with slight anger in his voice as he stood up straight once again to look down on the figure of a person who thought he could judge him. Magic wasn't an open book for a reason, he did have things he wanted to hide, but this guy didn't know enough of him to judge him like this. "I may be selfish but I'm not that fucking low." The winter growled ignoring his previous question. There were all kinds of people he helped when he made his gang. Sure he fought for pleasure, and recruited people who could only win, but his gang protected those who didn't really have a home, and encouraged the younger ones to stay in school.

There was plenty of stuff that Mason had done to help others, to give them a better life than he had. He even saved Aspen from being run over in the first few months he came to the school, because it was the right thing to do. Magic shook his head as he stood back. Not really wanting to help the guy anymore. He would have come over to help any other person that may have been in this situation. Unless it was Warren, then he would have let it happen.

The winter crossed his arms. He knew the boy was suffering from whatever that was going on with him, but there wasn't anything he could do about that. He thought from the earlier impressions he gave it was something he could deal with. Mason's hands clenched together tightly into fists. He came out here to calm down and here he was being reaggrivated. Callum had to come out here for a reason or else he must have been an idiot. He knew that Callum wanted to talk to him, but for him to risk coming out here, that was a bit of an idiotic move. "If you really think that way of me then I can just leave you here right now, and let the wolves come back to tear your body to shreds. It wouldn't be the first time I let someone die." Wouldn't be the last time, he was certain of it.

If Callum didn't want to tell him about whatever he wanted to talk about then it didn't really matter. He already knew enough. After today he had figured out a few things, and it didn't make him happy. Life hated him a lot didn't it? Always having to deal with something, always putting up with another thing. How many secrets did he hold? How many lies had he spoken? How much shit did he put up with his whole life? Heh.. all he wanted was to be a better person, to actually have a happy life for once. Apparently that was too much to ask for.

Magic stepped back unfolded one of his arms and slammed it into the tree behind him, causing a loud crack to come from it, and the tree to lose a few of it's leaves. He let out a sigh trying to calm himself down, which was sort of working. It wasn't the first time he heard words like that, but it had certainly been a while. Usually it had been himself bashing on him, with Adeline giving him words of encouragement, but this time it was someone else. Someone who was a close friend to one of the few people he held dear, and those words stung a bit, but he would get over it.

PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptySat Jun 18, 2016 9:45 pm

He hated how easy it was to rile Magic up. It hadn't taken so much as three sentences and the other student was agitated. Callum supposed that was simply an effect of studying psychology, knowing the weaknesses within others and taking advantage of them. Somehow, he found himself slightly more glad to know that he would be enjoying this more than he had originally thought. Really, really funny how someone renowned for their super-hearing, how they could hear each coating of a person's vocals, discerning and dissecting the meaning of every single word, managed to screw up against a cripple, let alone a handicapped individual who couldn't fend himself if it ever got to a physical confrontation. Trading venom as of now was all he could actually do. He would be lying to himself if he tried to say that he wasn't doing this to alleviate some of the tension in his shoulders.

But that was poor of him to take advantage of Magic when he was already disarmed from previous events and in an unstable state of mind. Really poor. Uncalled for, if he scrutinized it a little further.

There were a few people he could imagine chiding him for his behavior; some would go as far as to knock him out and leave him to rot in a cell until he caved in and begged for their mercy, groveling on his knees and playing sycophant. Being told to sit around while days passed by endlessly, left in a hell with an indeterminable end, only threw his sanity out the window. Empty hours of absolutely nothing except waiting where he had no purpose or value to anyone or anything. Each time it happened, he tried to convince himself that he was mentally prepared for it, that he was used to it, that none of it mattered at that point. Who was he kidding? It was a lie every single time. If Magic had the choice, he would probably resort to it as well. A sickle of a smirk came unbidden to his lips before he found himself rancorously laughing uncontrollably, pulling one leg in to use as a rest for his torn and useless arm, the other hand coming up to cover half of his face.

Magic managed to voice his inner thoughts almost all too perfectly. Perhaps he wasn't so inconsiderate or oblivious to the people around him. That didn't excuse the fact that he ignored his question, but Callum opted to stay silent about that. The answer was very transparent. Regardless of whoever he did assist and help, in the end, he would only save himself if he had to pick between himself or the others with him. Whatever he did, it was only because there was no real cons to it - none of it would prove to be a sort of disadvantage. When it came down to it, Magic would save himself and allow life to continue tormenting him on end. Life wasn't fair like that. He was stupid to not just cease breathing when given the opportunity instead of giving himself survivor's guilt. People played with his emotions, and he was foolish to let them continue as such...

... They were both fools though, weren't they?

No matter, that wasn't really the point here. Callum allowed his dark laughter formed from hysteria to cease as a smooth stoic mask slid over his features. He was fully aware that this wouldn't be the first time Magic had let someone die in front of him when he could do something about it. Not that he could retort back about that when he had no right to. Life was a living hell, sometimes. It was better that some people found a time to stop breathing and never open their eyes again. Cruel as it sounded, he considered it a mercy killing. "Heh, you could do that, couldn't you?" So much for trying to behave and play nice. "Why don't you kill me yourself?"

Perhaps he would let some stupid canines do it instead. An image of a gruesome death such as that flashed into his mind, and he found himself amused. After everything that happened, he really did deserve to die like the kind of trash that he was. Most of this was stupid anyway. It would be so much easier for Magic to simply walk away. Neither of them held any sentiments for one another. Magic only bothered because he was Adeline's close friend. He waved away the thoughts of her finding out that he died. She didn't have to find out. She didn't know how long he was sticking around Beata anyway. For all she knew, he had left at night without a word and booked a flight to Sofia.

This never got old. In mock imitation, Callum repeated the words that Magic had said himself: "It wouldn't be the first time you killed someone." He wasn't startled when a tree close by was practically split in two and groaning in protest of the idea that a person would dare touch its ancient figure and defile it, as though it were a precious artifact in this small world. Jaded green eyes focused on the moon drooping down in the sky, tiny stars flickering on and off across the never-ending black canvas. "You wouldn't kill me." The statement came out more bold than he would've liked, but he knew Magic wouldn't do it. Whether it was the fact that he was Adeline's friend and Magic would have to deal with the consequences of severely upsetting her or not, that didn't matter. But he was confident that Magic wouldn't kill him.

Actually, there were a few more things he could say that would break that claim. He knew very well that Magic hated the people clad in black with a burning desire for revenge. Not enough that it had consumed him to the point where he had no other dreams or ideas for the future, but it was enough of an arrow shot that trying to remove it was a messy business. Callum was certain that Magic wouldn't bother removing something that wasn't fatal, judging from his words earlier. 'Little injuries', huh? An arrow to the knee was probably nothing. Those weren't even remotely lethal. Besides, one wrong move and all the blood comes pouring out like a waterfall. Though Magic wasn't the kind of person who would have hemophilia. He would've died by now if that were the case, and someone as proud and confident as Magic wouldn't have let himself live down such a pointless death.

A terse but grim chuckle bubbled up his throat, his next words unwavering as he dropped it casually, as though it were the most normal thing to tell someone. Nonchalantly, if he had to put a word to it. "You wouldn't kill me unless I told you I was associated with Argona." Callum didn't bother trying to force a smile or play around with his words, the hurtful spark from before blowing out like a filament.

PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptySun Jun 19, 2016 3:14 pm

Why was he laughing? What was funny about any of this? Callum was the one in the difficult situation here not Magic yet Callum was laughing which held a darker tone to it. It almost made him want to laugh too. While he was angry yes, but his anger didn't really cloud his thoughts like it did with others.  His aggravation had turned into that calm anger he held. He could feel it. That familiar fuzziness in his head, but he wouldn't let it get to him, at least not yet.

Magic remained silent, just listening to the boy speak, and the various forest sounds around him. Yeah he could leave him for dead for any predator to get the boy, yeah he could kill the boy himself. It would just take some sound waves emitted into his body for him to give in. His body was weak enough it would barely protest before giving in. Would he kill him? Maybe. He already killed a few people on purpose what was another? There would be many more for what he was planning to do. Except that would be for a better purpose.

Though it seemed Callum found this whole situation amusing. Even the point where he thought he was echoing Magic's words, except Magic had said he let someone die. There was a difference. No one knew that Magic had purposely killed people. The only person who knew was himself. This.. this was becoming increasingly amusing to the winter. Though he wasn't going to let that be know to this strange boy just yet. Even though he wanted to laugh when he had so boldly stated that Magic wouldn't kill him. He could, and he might if this kept up. He didn't care about the consequences too much. Everyone was going to hate him in a short time anyway.

After Callum had finished speaking, even after the boy brought up Argona, Magic laughed. "Well you seem so certain about yourself. Did you study up on me enough? Did you observe enough? Did you learn enough?" The winter laughed again, the kind of laugh that made it sound like you pittied someone. There was one thing that Callum didn't know about. That thing was even if Callum was associated with that group, Magic still wouldn't kill him.

The winter leaned down, holding a smile on his face and grabbed Callum by the front of his shirt. tugging him away from his support for his injuries. "You say all of these things, and yet you still don't know what I am capable of." The winter said his grin growing ever wider. "Nor do you know of all the things I have done." Magic chuckled once again.

"Do you know what it would take for me to bring the wolves back? Just one little sound from me and they would all come dashing back to tear you apart, to leave you a bloody mess. The only thing remaining would be a few bones and blood spatters on the forest floor. It wouldn't be my fault then." He didn't let the maddness take over, but he let it influence his words a bit to scare the boy. "Anyone who found the mess would think, oh the idiot cripple went out into the scary forest at night when he clearly didn't have the ability to defend himself. It's sad, but he must have had a death wish."

Magic's grip tightened around the shirt. "Or I could kill you myself. Add another name to the list of people I have already killed. I could hide your body like I did with the ones last week, or I could let the wolves take it themselves, but by the time I would done with you it would be morning time already and the wolves would have disappeared, and at that point I could just leave your body here to rot away slowly." Mason laughed again. "And you know how easy it would be for me to lie to her? It would be very easy. I already know she thinks people don't want to be around her. It would be so very simple to say that you most likely left, and she would assume you hated her."

The winter rose the boy higher to the point where he was barely off the ground. "You are at my mercy, and you know what? I'm feeling rather merciful today, even to a person like you." His grip released off the boy's shirt sending him to the ground once again. "Now if you actually have anything important to say I would suggest you say it." If he Callum continued on with his rant any long, Magic would most like knock him out and place him in the infirmary.

A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptySun Jun 19, 2016 6:55 pm

As if he had that kind of confidence that Magic seemed to be jumping to. To hell with that idea. Being that sure of himself and all of his actions or every word he spoke meant that he knew where he was going with everything, that he had some sort of passion or motivation to keep him going, no matter what the issue may be. His face remained unreadable as he forced himself to stay composed, to push away the coruscating visions trying to overtake his thoughts and attack them to a state where he'd be as stupid as to fall into despair. He wouldn't - couldn't - let Magic see such a stupid weakness with his very own eyes. There was no way Callum would allow it after he had been such a smartass about everything and brought this kind of argument upon himself. Magic was certain to take advantage of it the moment he got the chance to, and moving around on it, he really didn't have that much wiggle room to work with. His own fault, though, he could admit that much.

Suppressing a smile meant as a sign of retort, he mused with the idea that the other student was under the impression that he was judging him based on the one day they've had to tolerate one another, if not for Adeline's sake. Yup was the response that immediately popped into his mind, but he didn't have the heart to say it aloud. In addition to all of the information she gave him, Callum had taken matters into his own hands and done the research on his own. Responsible for the destruction of a public location after being aggravated by someone under Argona's command, a known criminal within the depths of Chicago and a gang leader in charge of multiple fights for the sole purpose of gaining territory. He had quite the bounty on his head. A poor relationship with his barely younger brother and a mom that he loathed to the ends of the earth. Not that he could say much there, he hated his mother too. A traitorous brother who died last week at the hands of Argona's cronies and a younger sister who had killed the ones who took his life; murder ran in the family pretty strongly, it seemed. Magic took pleasure in breaking bones here and there, having a customary ritualistic process where, after snatching victory in a skirmish, they had to snap someone in two before sending them off. Some fear tactic that could only mirror a dictator, really. Magic was power-hungry, mentally unstable, and easy to take advantage of with the right words; forget his attempts to look neutral. Those were all lies.

It didn't come off as surprising when Magic had stomped over and pulled him up with the collar of his uniform. Callum expected that much. What he hadn't realized was that the grip was too tight, practically closing his airways and preventing him from breathing properly. He could feel the bones coming out of place from the one arm he didn't bother healing, jutting out of his skin. At first, he didn't really notice as a numbing sensation stretched across the wounded area, as though the limb had fallen asleep with the tingling shooting up every nerve connected to it. And suddenly, it was burning, scorching even, washing up in a sudden new wave of pain, stabbing in and out without a care in the world as it blanketed his entire arm within moments. He quickly bit his lip to hold back a scream, his face contorting into a wince as he turned away, refusing to stare Magic in the eye.

Leave it to someone like Magic to aim for weak spots. He must be really angry at this point if he would go this far. I deserve it. That much was true and undeniable.

The way he was rambling off about how easy it would be to kill him made Callum wonder why he didn't just get it over with already. He didn't care about his own life that much, being an expendable pawn that could be replaced in the blink of an eye, as simple as someone with a fever reaching for one tissue and blowing into it before tossing it in to the bin and reaching for another one for the exact same purpose. Really, he would've laughed or tried to say something about it if it weren't for the accursed fact that Magic was choking him and making it impossible to gasp for air. Magic was very right about one thing: he had a death wish. He wanted to die and stop living this insufferable life when his entire existence was complete garbage; there wasn't anything that he could really accomplish when he was just some dog taking orders that couldn't bite back at its owner. But he couldn't die yet. Not now.

Callum gritted his teeth, clenching hard at how carelessly Magic was willing to lie straight to Adeline's face and not take responsibility for a murder that he would be committing. He didn't care for his own life, but trying to mess with that sort of thing was unforgivable. His eyes narrowed dangerously, glaring daggers as he snapped his attention back towards his captor. Did he seriously think that their friendship was so easily broken by a couple of fibs? He despised how much faith she had in him - in anyone, really - and how unwilling she was to just straight up believe that someone would betray her without good reason. It was bad enough that he was playing acts to try and uplift her spirits; she didn't need to know what he was actually involved in. Knowing about the treatment he received already worried her too much, and if she knew anymore... He didn't want to think about the drastic measures she'd take. Magic was stupid to think she'd easily believe that he left because he supposedly hated her.

At this point, Callum was tired of listening to the other boy's voice. He was very glad that it seemed like Magic would finally shut up at the end of his little monologue. Once he was finally released from his hold and thrown to the side like a rag doll, he let out a sharp cry, landing on his bad arm. God, he felt pathetic, his eyes watery and bloodshot from being allowed to breathe after suffocating enough that it was akin to being dunked underwater and held there for an eternity and only let up when it was clear that he drowned. He laughed a little, holding fingers at his neck as though it would ease the searing pain from there. If he tried to tell himself that he didn't fear for his life just a bit, it would be a complete lie. Which was why he mustered up enough strength to conjure a turbulence to knock Magic away. Not enough to injure him or anything, but enough to keep a good distance between them.

As soon as he was sure he could speak without any problems, feeling more exhausted than he should've been, Callum gave his response. "You're a sick person, you know that? I have to wonder what she likes about you." Then again, he didn't know why she associated herself with a vile person such as himself. He didn't bother trying to get up from where he was, only turning slightly so that he wasn't leaning on his injured side. His decently functioning hand placed itself on his forehead as he retired to the ground. "I suppose I should be grateful for your compassion since I'm not allowed to die." Yet, he quietly added to himself.

He reached into one of his other pockets, pulling out a crumpled envelope with no contents within it and promptly tossed it in Magic's direction, manipulating the wind enough that it gently drifted into the other boy's fingers. "Couldn't find the letter, but it's from a member named Warren Parks. She received it around Christmas or New Year's." Having to be the one who scanned and read through written reports or having to relay messages here and there might he got a good amount of time to scrutinize and memorize everyone's handwriting. Besides, he knew the seal on the envelope at the back of his mind. Amell.

"She has about four months left of time." Callum really did hate talking about these things behind her back, but the fact that she seemed to hold Magic so fondly to her made him at least have the right to know. "She didn't lose just her voice. Sense of touch, ability to sleep or feel hunger, and a few other things that I can't pinpoint from just watching her."

He shut his mouth. He knew Warren was the one in charge of the operation in Colorado, but that had taken some archive digging through previous mission logs from when he was catatonic. A small sigh left him as he closed his eyes again. Perhaps he went too far this time around, but it would be a lie if he wasn't itching for some sort of battle. Too bad he wasn't in the condition for any fighting. Verbal arguments would have to do - Magic was at least an amusing opponent, to say the least.

Callum let his words sink in, staying silent as he waited for Magic's response. If the name of a certain person said anything, he wouldn't be surprised if Magic violently reacted again. Whether he did survive this time or not would be a different case, but... He really didn't want to die tonight. No, that was wrong, he always wanted to die. The impulse for it was simply weaker this time around. Besides, if he was going to drop dead, he would be the cause of his own death. One woman wouldn't let him die anyway; she would always come to pick him up.

A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptyThu Jun 23, 2016 9:56 pm

Magic noticed that Callum didn't look at him during some of that. He wanted to taunt the boy, ask him where all his confidence went. Ask him why he was being so pathetic all of the sudden but that would get him no where except maybe more silence. Callum should have expected this reaction. He also should have something to back up his taunts, but he had nothing. Where as Magic had the ability to back up all his threats, and was willing to do so if it came down to it.

Though Magic was rather pleased with the reaction he got when he had mentioned lying to Adeline. He never would lie about something like that so that part was just a bluff, but he was testing Callum. Seeing if he actually cared for Adeline, and all that earlier wasn't just a front. And the look Magic had gotten told him that Callum did in fact care for the girl, and from the he could assume that Callum wasn't doing this because he wanted to.

Magic didn't really care that he was pushed away from the boy in the end. Callum couldn't do much to stop Magic in the end if he decided to act. "Yeah, yeah. I'm a sick person. Heard it for ages, known it for ages." He said when Callum had told him that. Though he was right about not knowing what Adeline saw in him. Magic wasn't too sure either. He could only assume that it was from his good streaks when he was a friendlier and nicer person. Not the piece of crap he was now. Though that wouldn't matter that much in some time.

The winter was going to speak up again about being grateful, but he decided to keep his mouth shut and let the boy finally get to the point. He watched as the envelope drifted over to him, and he reached out and grabbed it. His eyes analyzed the piece of paper even though it was dark and he couldn't see much. As soon as he heard the name though his hands tightened into fist crinkling up the piece of paper. His teeth clenched tightly together.

Why did it have to be him? Why why why? That was one person he didn't mind killing in the slightest. One of his hands left the piece of paper he was making a wrinkly mess off and slammed back into the tree again. Though this time it didn't give a groan of protest and stay where it was. A large cracking noise could be heard as the tree gave way to the force of his hit. There was groaning and cracking from the tree as it broke through other things and broke away from the split that was created by Magic. The tree had fallen in the opposite direction that the two were standing and landed on the ground with a thud.

As soon as Callum mentioned how much time Adeline had left, all of the outer anger had vanished. He should have expected this.. he should have figured this out but he was an idiot, and didn't pay attention enough. Here she was wasting away her life when she had so much ahead of her, while he probably had a life time left, and there wouldn't be much he could do with it. After what he was about to do, he would probably end up wanted in a good many states, so he wouldn't be able to do much. While she had the chance to do many great things.

Her sense of touch.. ability to feel hunger.. Ability to talk... she wasn't the only one who lost their ability to sleep though. How could he have been so blind? How could he not have noticed... He was really that fucking selfish. He didn't really know what to say to that. He felt angry, he felt really really angry. The one person he had feelings for, the one person he cared for the most in the world almost to the point where he would forget his own selfishness was going to die, and there wasn't a single fucking thing he could do about it. There wasn't a single fucking thing...

Rage filled him once again, and the boy spun to the nearest tree giving it a swift kick and watched as it protested against the power for a moment but eventually it gave way just like the other one did. As he stood there one of his hands covered his face as different thoughts raced through his mind. His fingers digging into his skin slightly to give himself a small distraction, but it wasn't enough. His body shook slightly from the anger he was feeling towards himself.

A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptySat Jun 25, 2016 8:40 pm

If he had anything to say about it, it was that Magic seemed to be the sort of person who was very fickle with his moods and attitudes. First, he was all concerned about the poor suicidal cripple's health and why the hell said handicapped victim was in the forest in the middle of the night when the wolves could tear him apart at any second because of one tiny little mistake. Then, it was threats being blown in and out like bubbles coming out of a wand in multiple kinds, as though they were every flavor of jellybeans in existence. And now, he was acting like he didn't care about the fact that he was actually insane and a terrible person, not to mention the actions afterwards. That was another tree to add onto his list of destroyed property... Another deafening crack! and timber later made that a second towering plant fall to the ground and tumble around, leaves violently throwing themselves onto the floor - any unlucky ones were caught by the wind and finding their way in his direction.

Callum could only find himself rolling his eyes at the spectacle he was witnessing, plucking a flimsy oak frond from the air with the tips of his fingers, inspecting each and every line closely with the way the veins branched out from one another, something akin to tiny sapling trying to sprout and burst its way out of the soil for a chance to grasp sunlight and live the sort of life that it should be allowed, something that it deserved for surviving so long and thus far, living through cold and bitter winters and enduring chilling bites. Summer was the epitome for that sort of optimal weather, after all, where the sun was harshest and wanted to bring droughts throughout all of earth. Really, after all of the stupid mistakes that people in the past had made, it was a miracle that lakes and rivers still existed in the current era of time.

Not that he could judge, considering everything that he had pulled in the measly eighteen years that he had lived. In the end, he had no right to criticize or taunt Magic either about all of the things that either of them had done. At least Magic had done some good throughout his life, whether it be a small act or not. He, on the other hand, had committed atrocious acts that he should've had the power and strength to resist doing or avoid but failed to. It was overwhelmingly ironic and hit too close to home that he wanted to burst out laughing again. Callum refrained from doing so, only allowing a patronizing smile to grace his features as he lifted his back from the ground and cracked his knuckles.

Too bad Magic was stuck with a reject like him, otherwise someone else may have taken pity and tried to sympathize with his situation. Callum couldn't care less about the tantrums the other boy was throwing, getting mad at himself for something that was so pathetically obvious that it was quite a wonder that Magic hadn't noticed. It didn't even take Callum more than a few hours to piece everything together and here Magic was, after practically spending an entire year with her for multiple days in succession to the point where they were even living in the same room, only solving the puzzle now. What a complete joke. Why he still felt the need to give Magic anymore information was beyond his belief, though the threat of coercion was still lingering about, looming like a ghost that wouldn't stop haunting him, and that was enough to knock some sense back into him. A tactic he was all too familiar with.

Silently counting to five, he suppressed anymore urges to toss out a sneer or mocking phrases of contempt. Behaving was all he could really do to be of any use to anyone. Besides, he still needed to fish out some information from Magic as well, something that would be beneficial for headquarters to steal from his head. At least the other student was oh-so-openly threatening him; Callum couldn't deny the fact that Magic would most likely act on it in the future. He wouldn't mind it either. Life was just a dumb game that he couldn't even come close to winning in, anyway. Another image, more clearly this time, flickered in his mind and he shook it off. Not now... He couldn't drop his guard or try and get friendly with the the stronger student yet.

Indulging in some self-deception would be ideal, at least for the current situation. Being successful with it would be another thing entirely.

Callum opened his mouth, trying to figure out the best direction they could deal with here, his mind swimming with all sorts of phrases and sentences that he could select and move on with. There were a few things that he could ask, just to reaffirm what Magic already knew and what he didn't, but there was no need for that. The less he knew, the better really. If he could give enough information with as little substance as possible, that would be the most ideal thing that could happen. Letting his loyalties waver now would be dangerous. Unwilling loyalties. He only grimaced before taking a deep breath to speak.

"Warren is a mobile unit, but he's easily accessible in Florence as of currently." Callum started plainly in a matter-of-fact tone, tugging at the bottom of his gloves with a brief look to the stitches still embedded on the underside of his arm. They had come loose again. Mother would be angry for being careless and minimizing his efficiency once more. That was something he could meddle with later. "He's an Amell." If Magic even knew what that meant. There were some of those stupid mind-control freaks attending the academy, and for whatever reason, even the direct heirs, but that didn't matter to him. They were practically overflowing at Sofia already.

The many problems of attending a school in Europe where so many large and gifted families were stationed, including a certain family that he couldn't help but despise. Too bad he couldn't try to kill them, though. Being bound loyal to them with a little leash like a pathetic pet dog was what made it impossible. They'd never let him get anywhere near dangerous objects without subjecting to their control. Whatever. They were only doing what was inevitable, anyway. What the people under Argona were accomplishing was something that was already underway, something that they were only accelerating. He wouldn't be surprised if destroying the world and rewriting the laws of the universe was their trump card.

It probably wasn't.

Who cared anyway? He certainly didn't. There was no point in caring about all of that. He was empty and useless, only able to fill that emptiness by following orders and acting like a mutt with no mind of its own. That was all he was allowed to be.

"You won't be able to kill him. Your blow at the water park was lucky." Before Magic could say anything about it or protest about how weak Warren actually was for being so careless with what he was doing, Callum spoke up again. "Warren isn't a normal gifted."

A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] Empty
PostSubject: Re: A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed]   A Wish to the Starry Sky [closed] EmptyMon Jun 27, 2016 10:55 am

If Callum had taunted Magic about being oblivious to what was happening with Adeline, the boy would have surely died right then and there. As much as Magic wanted to wrap his hands around the boy's neck and kill him right now he couldn't. Callum could be of some use to him later on, especially if he found whatever what was keeping him tied to Argona, and got rid of it. Well that was sort of a plan anyway. Things never usually went according to plan for the winter. At least while he was here. Back in Chicago the only plans he had to worry about was expanding his gang's territory.

The winter dug his fingers more into his face trying to get his thoughts back on track, to avoid any violent thoughts that would cause him doing something he would regret later on. He needed to get control or else he would be falling to the madness again and no one needed that. He needed to get control. He needed to calm down. He was thankful for the small silence. It was easier for him to collect his scattered thoughts. He was finally able to removed his hand from his face, being somewhat sane again.

Mason turned towards the boy again, looking at him with some anger in his eyes, but listened to what he had said about Warren. An amell huh? Never interacted with the ones here but he knew enough to know Mind Control was their game. And Florence? He was probably going to end up there at one point if Warren was there. Alright maybe he hadn't collected his thoughts well enough for some violent thoughts were creeping back into his mind, but he shoved them aside.

Then Callum had to mention that Magic wouldn't be able to kill Warren. That he had gotten lucky with his attack at the water park. His mind was still good enough that he wanted to laugh at that statement. He wanted to so badly, but he didn't. "Oh? I can't kill him? Watch me. Normal gifted or not, he is going to die." The winter said not caring about what Callum would throw at him next.

A flicker of irritation and frustration crossed his features as he pushed the upper portion of his body to stay upright, supporting himself with both of his arms. Callum ticked a baleful and pointedly silent look towards Magic. How could he be so sure of himself on defeating someone who he barely knew a thing about? From all of the mission logs and reports that he read, Warren never actually used that many offensive gestures that would suggest what he was capable of. The intoxication of the drink was done by one of the other subordinates from behind the scenes and everything else was mostly a quick knife wound when the police arrived much earlier than expected. Even then, his superior completed the objective indirectly - in the end, it was the events from the whole day and what Adeline said that triggered the desired response. They didn't engage in real hand-to-hand combat once, so what the hell was up with Magic being so set on the idea that he would kill Warren?

He loathed that with every fiber of his body. The sheer confidence and determination, the persistence to strive towards a goal, and the free will to make whatever decision possible without being bound to chains and locked down and beaten over the most minor of rebellions. From the very start, Magic always had the sort of liberty that allowed him to do whatever he wanted. The negligence and rejection that he received from his birth mother always fueled him to escape, in spite of being locked up. Joining a gang and participating in delinquent activities only boosted that up further. There was very little that he couldn't do, regardless of the venomous and spiteful words that were tossed at him on a daily basis. But of course, if he couldn't be even more fortunate, there was also the connections that he had from companions and the support from those people who actually cared about him. Magic was lucky. Very lucky.

Callum hated him even more because of that. He had so much, everything that he could boast about, and people who would give a damn if he died or got injured. They had similar situations, but Magic was everything that he could never be. And Magic had the audacity to think he had it bad and be ignorant of how good he had it? In the end, whatever friendships or ties Callum had with Adeline and Kearn were orders. In a heartbeat, they would abandon him if they knew the truth of everything. A connection formed by empty lies. It was pitiful. Almost.

Slowly, he forced himself to relax, to not let his own aggravation get the better of him against his own judgment. Enough of that. There was no point. He was incapable of being anything like the other student in more ways than one. A straggled breath was uttered, eyes clenching closed. Callum had remained silent for longer than he would've liked, saying nothing and allowing his thoughts to wander off in his own sullenness, the chaos and shattered thoughts scattered throughout in an incomprehensible manner. Shaking his head, he immediately cleared his mind, allowing the wind to lift him up onto his own two feet. There was nothing satisfying about the endeavor if he had to use his powers to stand, completely unable to support himself on his own like any real human-being could. Not like he deserved that sort of thing, anyway.

Some trashed doll manipulated by the strings of a master puppeteer didn't deserve any of it. Love, affection, hopes, dreams, ideals... None of it was practical or had any use. There was absolutely no point in pursuing or caring about it. He was never shown any of it and he didn't have to display those stupid mushy feelings either. His existence was nothing more beyond the useful capacity he served. It meant nothing and was worth absolutely nothing.

In his derisive manner of speaking, Callum let a glint of malice and hostility slip and wrap around his words in their sickly-sweet style, like a snake coiling around and embracing its victim as its venom sank deeper and deeper into the core. "You can believe what you want, but you won't be able to kill him." Without missing a beat, his eyes had turned up to the starlit sky, avoiding Magic as he sliced away. The more the other boy despised him, the better. He didn't need the pity and it would be much easier on a later day when Magic was driven over the edge and had to take it out on someone. Might as well aim for the person that nobody wanted around. "Not like it matters. Someone else would kill him if you didn't. Warren's a traitor, much like your dear brother Adam and Edward." It seemed to be the new trend. A part of him knew that the other members stationed around Rosebury were, without a doubt, going to have wavering loyalties as well. They all had a bounty on their head. Some died faster than others. Some would receive crueler punishments for their betrayal than others. Scott, Adam, Warren, Edward, and whoever else. Every single one of them must have a death wish. But they're free. Not that they weren't ever free in the first place, able to spread their wings and fly in the vast sea of blue above.

"Speaking of Edward, you must be neglecting his twin and haven't seen him in awhile." A contemptuous smirk remained on his lips. "The two people you're closest to and you can't even keep track of when they need help." After all, it had been quite a few months since the Egypt operation. It was stupid that Magic didn't suspect a thing when Barry came back from his little failed mission. Beata was awful at keeping their students safe, considering the number of kidnappings and murders taking place. They didn't even bat an eyelid when Cenek attacked two unarmed gifted in a dark alleyway on his own volition. What a wonder that the school hadn't been shut down yet, lest the faculty cared so little about the lives of the children they were supposed to be watching and caring for.

Magic wasn't lucky. All the things he had did was because he had put in the effort to do so, and decided it was worth the risk. He never had much to lose in the first place. Hell he never had anything to lose. Everyone could get along just fine without him, at least back then. He was already defiant by nature and the situation with his mother only made him want to get out more. He just had the courage to do so unlike Callum. The winter could tell that Callum was a coward who hid behind his words and listened to everything he was told because he was too afraid of what would happen. He was weak.

He let out a small sound of disagreement when Callum had said again that he wouldn't be able to kill Warren. He would kill Warren no matter what, even if it took his life in the process. Dear brother Adam? Magic never met the guy so it didn't have the much of an impact on him. Magic was still angry, and still dislike the boy but he could see now that all he was trying to do was get under his skin. He already let that happen once he wasn't going to let it happen again. Though from the sound of it, Magic was going to have a lot of work to do in the next couple months.

The winter's attention turned back to as soon as Callum mentioned Edward. He disliked that guy after what had happened on his birthday. Neglecting Barry? No Barry was avoiding him. He wasn't exactly one to go chasing after people if they avoided him.. That was probably the issue with this whole thing.. One of the many issues with him. The ones he was working to fix and then it all went to shit with what was being thrown at him. There wasn't much he could do about that though. The winter didn't bother getting angry on the outside about Callum's remark. "As far as I recall one has been avoiding me and the other doesn't tell me anything. So what am I supposed to do with that? Tie them down and force them to tell me?" He said not really caring about this conversation anymore, though now he was curious about what had happened with Barry.

Tch. Magic had caught onto what he was trying to accomplish, attempting to callous himself or refrain from any sort of reaction that would spark another flurry of taunts and mockery. The lack of getting anything useful out of the other student was becoming more and more imminent with the same tricks and tactics being utilized with every word and phrase uttered. Either he had revealed too much or nothing he said was of much substance at this point in time. Not that those thoughts were all that comforting to think about. In the case that it was one of those - or even worse, both -, it meant that he completely failed his assignment and would be coming back empty-handed. Then again, there wasn't anything that he was actually good at, being something that was even worse than a pile of manure. He'd be better off dead as a rotting corpse in the gutters, reeking and unattended to, not getting any respect or treatment or care. A proper burial or cremation was far more deserving than what he should be allowed.

There were a few more cards that he could play, but whether those would have any effect was a different case. Most of them have already been thrown into the discard pile. Had he known that Magic would mistake his words so easily and snap, Callum would've better prepared himself for tonight. Argona, Warren, murder, his friends, Adam... There had to be more that he could take advantage of, more truths that he could twist to bring the situation back into his favor. Using the airport would be ideal, though if Magic killed him right then and there, there would be an unidentifiable amount of problems. It was really only a plus that the other boy was going to despise him by the time the sun rose and they parted ways. If he could guarantee an escape from life, that would be fine. Nobody really needed him and the only tie he had to this world made it clear that nobody did. Nobody except his mother, but even she would be worn down once he outlived his use and purpose.

Once Magic had replied, Callum had hoped he would have more to go off of and while he got what he wanted, it wasn't exactly what he had expected. His eyebrows rose slightly and his mouth was scarcely opened, agape as a strangled breath escaped. A throbbing sensation spiked across his forehead, gaze lowering to his feet as he shoved his gloved hands into his pockets, as though he wanted to pretend that they didn't exist. Don't look weak, don't falter, don't fail, don't do anything stupid. Don't falter, don't falter, don't falter. Weakness was something he abhorred. Those who were weak were thrown away faster. Such was the life of a reject.

The air felt thin, head pounding, vision completely out of focus like a camera trying to readjust itself in spite of the fact that the function was breaking and beyond repair. Slowly, he raised one hand to his neck, two fingers gently pushing somewhere between his ear and jawline. The area pulsated at a normal rate instead of the erratic rapid rhythm it'd be at if it was an attack. He would be fine. Stop overreacting. He was fine. Immediately, he placed his hand back into its small compartment, ignoring the stabbing pain that came with moving it while the arm it was joined to was still shattered.

His silences were getting much longer with every response, dawdling and bringing the conversation to a dead halt. Maybe it wasn't evident before, but now? Now was more obvious than ever as time seemed to crawl at a snail's pace, refusing to speed up even when the accelerator kicked to overdrive. Any futile attempts to try and say something only resulted in the words being ensnared in his throat, refusing to leave as though the life was squeezed out of them. Perhaps he should try raising air pressure? It couldn't be lowering, but it could help. No, wait, that was dangerous and toxic, if he made a mistake and oxygen levels became too high. A death like that would be fitting and he had invited a death of that category into his mind multiple instances in the past, but he wasn't allowed to as of the current time. His fingers clenched together, knuckles white underneath the fabric that concealed them. A maelstrom of thoughts washed over, seizing control of his mind.

Vivid images stormed in and out, flashing as though it was the same experience over and over again. He couldn't find the right words to describe the clenching feeling in his chest; he knew it wasn't another problem with his heart.

Why was breathing so difficult? One would think that someone with the ability to manipulate the air and wind would have an advantage and not be physically impaired by something like this. But that was only expected from such a failure. He would've laughed at how ironic it was, though it was too pathetic to even be graced with that.

Regaining his composure, Callum inhaled deeply, searching for something to say, something that distracted Magic from that display he gave. After what felt like a never-ending eternity, he quickly turned to face the other boy with a vindictive glare, looking him dead in the eyes. Magic would pay for that. "Coercion sounds right up your alley, doesn't it?" His earlier brooding comatose-like state disappeared without a trace, voice waspish, malevolence blazing in and out without so much as a care in the world. "I wouldn't expect anything less from the Steins who resort to violence when things don't go their way. Must run in the blood." He couldn't sound weak or feeble like he was grasping at straws. He couldn't. That was an order he couldn't disobey. Magic would only catch him off-guard this once. Never again.

"But of course, it's even better when you don't go comfort a friend." He continued nonchalantly, locking away everything that attempted to trigger another reaction into a safe lock, tossing the keys away. If his words faltered or wavered, it would be over. He had to keep it together. Callum bared his teeth into a crescent grin. "Funny how Barry mimics your behavior of avoiding other people when there is a change in fortune." This was the card he would play. He knew what he had to do and he would have to keep this going. Change of situation called for a change of tactics. "The love of his life died and you won't even say hello to him."

It was stupid that he had to stop to catch his breath temporarily.

A laugh rang out, spelling twisted and cruel. "Great friend you are. It's a miracle you have these connections." The smirk on his face never flickered. Probably. "I wouldn't put it behind someone who's as selfish as you to sell out his friends for his own benefit."
