Brailynn never got to spend too much time at their new house. She never had the need to since, well, she still had dorms of her own, but she did get a few evenings to check it out a while back when she helped her folks moved in. It looked just as she would have imagined it. It was a newer building, with lots of tall windows and roofs that towered upwards, giving plenty room to breath and lots of space for sunlight to flow in. Open, that was word she could best describe it was. "Try not to step on anything," she had warned her boyfriend before hand as they'd stepped through the front yard, which could have been confused for a first class garden on it's own.

Once they'd made it to the front door, she paused, smiling up at the young man and rocking back and forth on her toes, waiting for him to knock. "Are you nervous?" The blonde asked, leaning up and brushing a bit of dirt off of his shoulder. He shouldn't have had anything to worry about, probably not anyways. What was the worst that could happen?

'Intimidated' would be an understatement. As Richard looked at the house in front of him, he had no idea how to react. It didn't help that he originally wasn't exactly up for the idea of coming over to meet Brailynn's parents, but he couldn't say no to it. He had to meet them at some point and after three months, he figured it'd be better now than later. Just go ahead and get it over with, right? He could survive this...

When Lynn had told him to watch where he walked, he hadn't realized that he had essentially stopped breathing as he followed behind her to the front door. He really couldn't figure out why he was so nervous for this. He had gone through this before with an ex of his but somehow facing two gifted parents made it a whole lot scarier. When they reached the front door and she had asked if he was nervous, he let out a bit of a shaky sigh. He'd definitely rather be sitting at home right now doing a whole lot of nothing. "Nervous? No, no way!" he said sarcastically. "I'm only meeting your parents at your house. I mean, what could be nerve-wracking about that?" With a deep breath, however, he calmed himself down a bit. "Really, though, I'm fine. Are you good?" he asked, giving her a small reassuring smile.

The Spring laughed under her breath, peering to the side and sneaking a glance into a few windows to be sure their arrival hadn't been noticed yet, then turning her hazel eyes up towards Richard again. Maybe she had surprised him a bit with the whole sudden invitation to meet the parentals, but she didn't think much of it. What was more important than family, right? Richard was one of her best friends, her old roommate, and her boyfriend - she certainly wanted him to meet the people who raised her... And her brother if he was around, but she doubted that. Another time.

"I'm perfectly fine. Don't worry so much, I'm sure they'll love you." Trying her best to be reassuring, Brailynn reached up on her toes, giving him a quick peck on the lips.

The short, tiny kiss took Richard by surprise at first considering how large and how many windows there were on this house. He could only assume that they were being watched, but Brailynn seemed pretty confident that they were fine. He guessed it really shouldn't matter, but these were her parents. He was not about to make his first impression all about the two of them sucking face on the front porch. Even with all of the nervous thoughts running through his head, he couldn't help but smile at her and her attempt to kiss him. There have only been a few times since they met when he became fully conscious of just how much shorter she was compared to him and this was definitely one of those time. It was kind of adorable.

"Alright, I'll trust you," he said with a long sigh to try to calm his nerves again. He had reached for her hand for just a second, giving it a short, tight squeeze before he turned to look at the front door. He thought about going ahead and knocking, but he stopped, wondering if he really had to knock since she lived here and was out here with him. Were they just going to walk in? Did he have to knock? Were her parents expecting a knock? What if they didn't and he ruined all of his chances? With a short moment of panic paired with a nervous laugh, he looked at Brailynn. "Uh, should I knock or...?" He asked, waiting patiently for an answer.

The blonde held back another small laugh and tenderly squeezed his hand back. His nervousness was almost radiated off onto her, but there really was nothing to worry about, she reminded herself. "Generally doors are for knocking on," Brailynn mused, shamelessly teasing him. She should have felt bad, but she didn't. She supposed though that she could cut him a break in the beginning. "I got it..."

Just as a fair warning, the young woman knocked on the soft wood one or two times before opening the door and stepping lightly inside, taking Richard by the hand along with her. "Anyone home?" she called, "Dad? Mom?" Asshat? Cats? Her hazel eyes flickered back to her boyfriend for a moment out of excitement.

Desken was not happy. His daughter had a girlfriend, and he was not happy. Despite Irene slowly growing more annoyed with him throughout the day, Desken couldn't stop himself from pouting like a child. He just hadn't accepted the fact that his little girl was growing up. He knew it was dumb. She was amazing, reminding him of her mother in so many ways. Still, he never would have known being a parent made it so hard to let go.

When Lynn and whoever this guy's name was arrived, Desken was sitting in a chair in the living room, facing the opposite wall so that only his gray hair showed. It was beginning to get lighter, a mix of his unique, natural color and gray brought on from old age. He waited for the couple to enter the room, the only sound to be heard was the purr of the white cat resting on the arm of the seat.

He ignored any eye rolls he received from Irene's direction.

As they finally walked through the door, it took everything for Richard's heart not to pound out of his chest. He took a quick look around, taking in the atmosphere of the house. It not only looked fancy, but it felt fancy somehow. It was certainly a lot more than he was used to. It was nice, though. Well, until his gaze landed on the man in the chair facing the wall with a cat. He could have sworn there was an old movie that had this same thing going on. Richard would be lying if he said it didn't throw him off. What was he supposed to do? Saying hello might be the best option, but should he even speak at all? Glancing at his girlfriend, he tried looking for her help on what to do, but he could only see how excited she seemed about this whole thing. Well, that's all that mattered, right?

Taking a deep breath, he turned back to Desken, taking not of the presence of Brailynn's mother somewhere not too far. Richard took a couple of steps forward into the house, putting a smile on his face. "Um, hello, sir," He said with what little confidence he had while in their home. "Thank you for having me over tonight." Hopefully that was good enough.

The woman tried not to let it bite at her. After all, how many times had she gotten worked up over Aster's behavior, mostly encouraged by her husband for the most part. In retrospect, she had little to worry about all those times. Kids were kids and they had to grow up eventually. Apparently that was all fine and dandy for Desken if it happened to their son, but once their little girl came into the picture, that was a different story entirely.

She'd told him he looked ridiculous sitting there in the dark, sitting in his chair and gently stroking away at their cat. It was like something out of a cheesy drama movie. As Lynn and her friend stepped inside, she found herself at the corner of a hallway... And so she stood for the time being with the slightest hint of a smile as she peered over and watched them all. Despite how annoying he had been all day, it was pretty amusing to see him so worked up all the same. A rare sight indeed.

Brailynn was too excited to really notice her father's dark attitude. Maybe he was sick, or tired, or needed an extra cup of coffee to pick himself up, she didn't know. The young girl remained hopeful that the two of them would hit it off, for the moment anyways. Her hazel eyes glanced back up at Richard as he started to say something. (And it was good! At least, she thought so.) Again out of encouragement, and simply trying to be reassuring, she squeezed his hand - thinking how sweaty her hand was getting now... Or was that his?

"Daddy," she started off as sweetly as she could, her best smile in tow. "This is Richard." Be nice please, she added on silently, stepping back a bit so Desken could get a better look at the two of them.

When they finally entered the room, Desken used a little wind magic to spin his chair around to where he was facing them. The cat sat unbothered, purring away, putting a bit of a damper on the image Desken was trying to achieve. He regarded Richard for a moment with a cool gaze, as if critiquing everything about him, from inside to out. "Hello, Richard. Welcome." Though, he didn't sound very welcoming.

And when he couldn't help it anymore, he jumped up gracefully, a complete shift in his demeanor as he walked over to his daughter with a bright smile. "Sweetie." He pulled her in for a hug, and in one smooth motion removed the hat off her head, pulling it over his eyes, sending her a wink. "I promise I missed you and all, but I really missed this baby." He looked over at Richard, sending him a hard stare, in sharp contrast with the way he had been acting to his daughter just a moment before.

Even after exchanging words, Richard still had no idea how to respond. The looks he was receiving from Brailynn's mother was fairly neutral while Brailynn was trying to be as reassuring as possible. It was nice, even with the hand squeeze but the daggers he got from her father basically erased all the reassurance he had gotten. It was at times like these that Richard was glad he could just walk through walls and disappear if he needed to. If he had any other gift, he felt like he would be dead before the end of the night. Even with the ability not to be touched, he felt like he'd be buried in their backyard before Desken was through with him. The problem with these looks was that Richard couldn't tell if it would be better to stand up for himself or shrink into the background, even though he felt that Desken would find issues with both. This was so difficult...

"It's, uh, nice to meet you!" He said to Desken, gaining the courage to stick his hand out as an offer for a handshake. He was trying so hard. Maybe too hard, but first impressions were everything. It made it that much harder when it was pretty obvious her father didn't want to like him.

Brailynn bit her lip as he father spun around the chair in the middle of the room, seemingly moving on it's own. In a way, she thought it was funny. It might have been intimidating to her boyfriend, but it only reminded her of those old cliche movies she remembered watching growing up... Or on the days of Halloween. They'd always had the spookiest yard and scared a lot of the kids, and even the adults too.

The girl was beaming once Desken found his way onto his feet, pulling her into a big hug. Even though they were so close now-a-days, they still rarely saw each other. She missed him so much and, before she knew it, the hat was popped off her head and back to where it belong. Lynn laughed, "You sure? I think it's starting to look better on me now-a-days," The girl mused teasingly, her hazel eyes flickering when she noticed her mother approach.

When that eye roll finally arrived at the sight of his dramatic introduction, she decided it was best to come out of hiding, turning the corner and walking in with her hands folded firmly together. She stood with her back perfectly straight, pausing and tilting her head curiously to the side as she looked this young man over. She knew of him, from the short time they'd worked together in classes before he'd graduated, and she'd heard that he had become a guardian soon after... though she wouldn't know as much about that as her husband would.

"The pleasure is ours... Richard, was it?" She asked, finally allowing a small smile and tucking a few locks behind her ear. "I'm Irene and this is Desken. We're happy to have you here." Her grin growing ever so slightly, having to fight back her own amusement, she moved her hand to his shoulder. "Aren't we, Love?"

Desken studied Richard in silence for a moment. So this was the boy that was here to ruin his life. Okay, perhaps a bit dramatic. But as a father, he figured it was his right to be so. Still, so far he had been polite and visibly scared of Des, which he appreciated. Good. He was scary. He was a powerful man, and people often didn't realize that. With eyes still stone cold and suspicious, he reached out and shook Richard's hand with a tight grip.

Pulling back, he looked over to his daughter as she spoke, smiling softly and rolling his eyes in mock exasperation. "You've got it all wrong, kid. I'm like fine wine, I only get better with age." When Irene placed a hand on his shoulder, he looked over, catching her subtle amusement. "Yeah, so happy. Great to meet you, Dick."

When both of Brailynn's parents were finally together in front of him, Richard finally recognized the two of them. He remembered Irene more than Desken just because Irene had taken over the school for a short time after the big incident at the school, but he remembered seeing Lynn's father around once or twice. Never had he thought he'd actually be meeting them face to face, though. As Richard put his hand down next to his side from the handshake, it took quite a bit inside of him not to try to shake his hand out from the ache that had formed from the tight grip Desken had. As Irene had walked up and spoken to him, Richard saw the man open up and relax a little. It made Richard feel a little bit better about the whole deal, but as their eyes met again, the walls were right back up. Richard had no idea if anyone else could feel the tension in the air, but it was almost suffocating. The sudden switch in tone as Desken spoke to him again was enough to make him almost choke, and part of that was because Richard had no idea how to respond. It wasn't the first time someone called him Dick, but it was a little strange. "Um, good to meet you too, sir." The manners felt weird to the guardian, but he figured it would be best to pull out all the cards rather than take chances.

Brailynn laughed again, hiding her grin behind the back of her hand. As much as she loved her father, she felt her smile fade away slightly as she glanced aside at Richard, his awkward stiffness so incredibly obvious that she had actually felt bad she didn't notice it before. Maybe, just maybe, her dad was being a little too crude with her boyfriend. Possibly. The young woman cleared her throat. Of course, it was just because he was worried about her, she knew. Overprotective and all that of his little girl. So, if she made it clear how much at ease she was around him, then that would get him to loosen up, wouldn't it?

"I'm so happy you guys can finally meet," The Spring allowed a warm smile again, stepping closer to Richard and wrapping her arms lovingly around him and looking back to her parents. "And hey, free dinner too. Did you need help with that?"

The woman let her emerald eyes close shut gently, not sure she could handle seeing the look on Desken's face. Her daughter was well meaning, she knew, and so did the girl's father, but she wasn't entirely certain that would matter much in the end. 'You promised you'd behave,' Irene thought to herself, her hand rubbing half-thoughtfully across his shoulder still.

"I could use the help setting up. Desken, why don't you show him the place?" Her voice was light, but firm, not leaving much room to believe it was a simple suggestion.
