Crackpot Theory: Beata Asylum Empty
PostSubject: Crackpot Theory: Beata Asylum   Crackpot Theory: Beata Asylum EmptyFri May 06, 2016 12:51 pm

Put on your tinfoil hats.

Gifts, supernatural powers that blossom around adolescence, are a recurring natural phenomenon among a small portion of the human population. Their origins remain a mystery, but are speculated to be tied to portals—dimensional tears that lead to another world ravaged by horrible monsters.

In the early 2010s, Beata Academy is founded by Headmaster Edwin Rivers to harvest the gifts of his unwitting students. His plan is discovered and he is killed in 2013, and eventually replaced by Headmaster Nathaniel Wright. To this day, Beata Academy stands as a safe haven and center of learning for gifted children in America, Canada, and abroad.

Here's the theory. The gifted strain in your DNA causes an imbalance in mental and emotional stability. In other words, every single gifted human that has ever been born is a varying degree of batshit fucking insane.

    Symptoms may include:
  • Depression.
  • Susceptibility to extreme violence or aggression.
  • Manipulative or psychopathic tendencies.
  • Hyper-sexuality.
  • Alcohol, tobacco, or drug addiction, even at young ages.
  • Strange quirks, habits, or obsessions.
  • Crippling social anxiety.
  • An inability to form meaningful relationships.
  • Difficulties in properly socializing.
  • Other disorders, such as speech impediments.
  • Strange or exaggerated personalities.
  • Suicidal thoughts or actions.
  • Many other various personality disorders or mental illnesses.
  • Many other examples of emotional and mental stability or unconventional thinking.

Reflect on every tragic backstory. Every single one. They're very common, almost disproportionately to any other normal school. Funny coincidence. Are those all cases of unfortunate circumstance, or was there something else behind the usual abuse, neglect, bullying, et cetera? Other underlying factors?

Reflect on every conversation and interaction between characters. Any topic, any roleplayer, from any time. Ask yourself, "do real people actually speak and act like this?"

You might think your character is exempt. "Everyone else might be crazy, but I know my character's fine. They're normal. I know they're normal because I made them normal." No, they're not normal. If they were normal they wouldn't be at Beata Academy. You might not realize it, and your character might not realize it, but every gifted person in this universe is at least a little unhinged.

Demonstrated insanity might be subtle or benign. It might come out as an eccentric personality or speech pattern, or a comedic fixation, or strange rationalizations and thinking processes. The point is, there is something wrong, even if it's not obvious at a first glance.

Beata Academy is fucked. It was founded by a sociopathic megalomaniac for the sole purpose of murdering children to further his own path to godhood. The original school was a complete madhouse in every single aspect, from the 'classes' (which usually involved the direct threat of death) to the everyday interactions to the actions of the Headmaster and his Guardians.

Yes, Headmaster Rivers is dead, but many of his traditions still live on today through Headmaster Wright. We still send children to take down giant man-eating dragons. We still host fighting tournaments. We still let children walk around campus armed with swords, axes, maces, bows, staves, and other weapons. Think about every event where students were subjected to direct physical or mental harm. It shows in the little, irrational ways too. All the dorms, full of hormonal teenagers far away from home and with almost zero supervision, are mixed-gender.

It's not limited to the school. Who are the current biggest threat to Beata Academy?

That's an easy answer. They're the people in black, a group that entirely consists of misfits, sadists, psychopaths, and mass murderers. The group is led by a crazy lady who's gift is to induce extreme fear to the point of insanity, and she was a focal point to the first site too, when her dad was the main antagonist. The group is huge, international, and its ranks are swelling every year. What attracts gifted people to such a scary group? It's because they're all fucking nuts.

Every single exposure we get of other gifted institutions is fucking batshit. The most prominent Sofia character is a person in black who suffers prophetic hallucinations that she struggles to tell apart from reality. She murdered, or is going to murder, the other most prominent Sofia character, who was neurotic, paranoid, distrusting, and awkward. This isn't mentioning the Japanese research labs (funded by the people in black and did illicit human experimentation on children) or that one Canadian village (dominated by a human sacrificial cult).

Your characters are insane. My characters are insane. We're all insane together. 9/11 was also an inside job.

Wake up, sheeple.

What is normal though?

How can we rule out external factors?
To put simply, does anyone account for the fact that our dear insane children are actually practical demi-Gods, and how greatly this isolates them? How would this affect them in their early years? Their personalities? Their relationships with the people around them? Anyone can be crazy (and most people are in some way), but just maybe, their lives could be considered a little crazier.

Could we blame Richard's jealousy issues on his intangibility genes?
Or Magic's stoic nature on his dNA, or do we pin it on a world of noise pollution?

Where is the line drawn between internal forces and external?

Humans are capable of both great good and great evil, and are marvelous at normalizing and rationalizing the most outstanding things in attempts to comprehend and survive and live.

Maybe their gifts don't make them straight up nutty, maybe they make them more human than us all.

That's gay.

1. Magic is literally insane, noise aside.
2. The theory would state that those external factors contribute, but are exacerbated by an inherent mental instability.

You're gay.

Everyone already has issues to some degree. How would we know the difference between a crazy gene, if it existed, and a crazy situation?
We wouldn't. Which one? Both maybe?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I prefer my cheesy idea of 'that's just how the mind copes and works in a crazy-ass world', but heey. It's not a bad idea. c|

Take your pick. <3

But you would agree everyone is screwed in the head, just that it's a result of environment?

Sheeple, denying the truth when it's right in front of you.

I neither agree nor disagree.

Trying to figure out gifted human nature is like trying to figure out normal human nature, except with more fuckery.

Evelyn wrote:
The girl plopped unceremoniously back down on the piano bench and reached blindly with a shaky hand for the dagger strapped to her thigh, mostly concealed under her skirt. It was a strange thing, but it comforted her to hold it... to just grip the hilt tight and stare into the metal. It was funny to think the girl had resented it so much, at one point. She drew it from its sheath, with no regard for Penny's presence for the moment, and pulled it out in front of her, looking at her pale and distorted reflection in the blade to calm her quaking.

Whenever Evelyn looked into it, it was as if she forgot all about social grace and those around her. All of the complicated and choreographed actions she had to go through to seem 'normal' that seemed to come so easily to everyone else. Faintly, the little voice, her own voice, in the back of her mind was yelling at her, calling her an idiot and a weirdo for just siting there cradling a knife, but for once she ignored it. I need this, just for a second...

Mad.

Kayla wrote:
She grit her teeth and stopped in front of the elevator. With a crackle of electricity, the doors slid open.

There were two men in the platform already; a squat man in a white undershirt and a thin brown-haired man in a suit, leaning against the elevator wall. Fatty and Skinny, Shortie and Sasquatch. The first must have been in his late thirties, the other college-aged at most. After a moment of hesitation, she stepped in, channeling all her energy in keeping the electricity suppressed. It would be bad if she caused more of a commotion, and worse if she accidentally jammed it and stranded herself in here. She turned around as the doors slid shut. Cheesy elevator music filtered into the lift.

Kayla's eyes shifted behind her. Fatty had a black overcoat tucked under his arm.

"Hello, Kay," the stocky man greeted, as warm and casual as a family friend. A blade appeared in the thin man's hand.

Bastards. So she had a playdate in the elevator after all.

The garrote wire slipped around her throat and yanked her against the fat man's chest. A gasp escaped her as he cut off her breathing. Her fingers wrapped at the coils to try and pry them off her neck, but it wasn't any use.

"Don't take this personally," Skinny smiled. The knife jabbed forward, cat-quick. In that split second, Kayla's foot kicked forward.

The knife went spinning out of the man's hands. Another kick, into Skinny's gut, slammed him into the corner. Kayla's rammed her elbow into Fatty's ribs, once, twice, three times, her face turning red. Electricity flickered along her arm and she elbowed him again, stomping on his toes, and Fatty finally relented. The wire around her neck loosened and she slipped out, spinning around to send her left fist smashing into the man's chin. He reeled backwards, and she rattled him with a right hook across the temple. His hat went flying off his head.

Fatty slumped to the floor, grabbing at his head and fumbling at his case, and Skinny lunged forward, wrapping long fingers around her neck. He slammed her against the wall, face contorted in a growl. Her knee shot up, taking him between the legs. The tall man gasped, loosening his stranglehold for just a moment, and Kayla's head went crashing into his with a blinding white flash of pain.

Skinny stumbled backwards and Kayla stretched out her hand. The knife jittered on the floor before flying up into her palm. She wrapped her fingers around the hilt.

There weren't going to be any interrogations here. Kayla punched the knife into Skinny's heart. He gasped, grabbing feebly at her wrists, but she just twisted the blade.

He fell again, for the last time.

When Kayla turned around for Skinny's friend, he was holding a gun. It wavered unsteadily in his hands, his brown eyes unfocused.

For the first time that vacation, she smiled. "Do it. Pull the trigger. Just don't miss."

Sparks danced along her fingertips, and when the stocky man pulled the trigger, the gun exploded in his hands. Shrapnel exploded in all directions in that tiny steel cage, but the scraps of broken gun just stopped inches in front of her, levitating in the air.

Fatty was screaming in pain and covered in blood, his hand a red ruin, with crimson trickles running down his face, his chest, his arms.

Kayla stepped forward and held out her arm. "My turn."

When the elevator lurched to a stop, both of the men sent to kill her were dead. She rubbed her fingers over the red mark on her neck. There wasn't any time to think about what she'd done. Blood spread across the floor, seeping into the carpet and staining her shoes.

Annoying.

That stupid elevator music was still playing.

Ding!

The elevator doors slid open.

There were three men in black waiting for her on the other side. Two held guns, the other carried a vicious mace in a gloved hand.

She blew them away with a snap of her fingers. Their bodies went flying down the lobby stairs like ragdolls, and Kayla followed, stepping out from the elevator and letting the doors shutter to a close behind her. A suited man's broken form laid facedown on the stairs, his nice black clothes singed and burning from the lightning strike. He didn't make any movement as she passed him.

Only one of them had managed to survive. He was writhing in pain by a hotel couch, cradling his shotgun like a lover, howling like a fucking child. She stomped her foot on his gut to shut him up.

He lifted the shotgun to her face, but she just twitched her fingers, and the barrel twisted like a tootsie roll. She kicked it out of his hands and let it roll across the carpet.

Madder.

Jane wrote:
"Well..." Jane never looked at him. She just spoke in a voice as sweet as a bell. "It's kind of a long story, but I killed my boyfriend."

Maddest of them all.

Sanity calms, but madness is more interesting.

In other words...

Besides, wouldn't you agree that where madness lies, curiosity follows?
