Owen grew up on a farm in Nebraska. His childhood was that of someone who lived miles from any neighbors, of summers spent racing his siblings through wheat fields and winters inside beside a fire. His gift didn’t present itself until he was ten. At that time, his parents decided to keep his gift quiet from their family and friends. Owen wasn’t allowed to show it or use it anywhere but at home, and even then, his parents made sure he was inside the house, as they never knew who could be watching outside.

Despite this, he grew up feeling loved by his parents and siblings. He practiced his ability within his bedroom, gaining an understanding for how it operated. Over the years, he went from needing a nap after every practice session to only needing to rest a little bit, and finally, he was able to manipulate large amounts of light before feeling tired. He began to understand why his parents wanted him to keep his abilities a secret, as his siblings started to grow distant from him and while they didn’t become cold towards him, they avoided talking to him and occasionally cast him jealous looks.

When Owen was invited to attend Beata Academy, his parents found it hard to let him go, but they knew it was necessary. His friends pushed him to find out why he wasn’t staying in town and he broke down. After years of hiding his ability, he pulled his closest friends aside and showed them what he could do, believing they would support him and act excited. However, they did the opposite. They were angry, bitter, upset that he had never told them after so many years. His final night in his home town was spent locked in his room without talking to anyone.

Ava grew up with just her mom in the house. Her dad was never around and her mom worked from the early morning until the late night to get them enough money, leaving Ava to mostly fend for herself. She discovered her gift after a particularly rough move when she didn't have any friends at her new school. One day at lunch, watching a table of girls chattering with each other and sitting by herself, she wished she had a friend, and suddenly, there was someone beside her.

Being close with her mom, Ava told her about this new development when she got home. At first, her mother was skeptical, but when Ava recreated the hallucination and it spoke to her mother, she accepted it. For years, Ava worked on developing her gift on her own, testing her limits and attempting to strengthen her gift. She kept it a secret from anyone at school, even after she made friends of her own.

Out of high school, she didn't want to leave her mother and she didn't know about Beata. Lost with her gift, Ava discovered a group that shared her gifts. They invited her in and made her feel welcome and, with no hesitation, she joined them, prepared to do almost anything for these people who had accepted her. Even when she began to dirty her hands, she pushed forward, although she didn't tell her mother.

Ria was born just a year after her parents married. Their whole relationship had been rather fast. They were one of those couples that you just knew belonged together, and nothing was going to hold them back from getting to where they wanted to be. So they had a small wedding, settled down, and soon had a baby girl.

It wasn’t long after that that Katherine grew very ill. When Ria was just 9 months old, her mother passed away, leaving her father alone to raise a brand new baby. Things were rough for a while, but he quickly learned his daughter’s quirks and fell into an easy rhythm with her, giving her as much love and appreciation as he could. He was broken by the loss of his wife so early, especially when they had spent such little time together, but he wanted the best life for his daughter possible, and so he remained as happy as he could. He hasn’t dated anyone since the death of his wife.

Ria and her father went camping and hiking a lot. It was a tradition for them to go whenever possible, typically over weekends. This resulted in Ria not attending many social events, as they happened over weekends and she always reserved her time for her dad, who worked and would occasionally be called in over weekends. She didn’t mind, however, and found time to go for walks and explore the land around her.

She first discovered her power when out on one of these walks. A recent rainstorm had washed away a large chunk of a river bank and, due to foliage, she didn’t see the new severe drop. She slipped, but a step of the rock came up and prevented her from falling into the swollen river. Immediately, she raced home and called her father. He came home as soon as he could and they celebrated and explored this newfound ability.

Ria received the call about coming to Beata and her father was sad to see her go. She keeps in constant contact with him and visits whenever money allows.
