PostSubject: City that Never Sleeps   Wed Mar 30, 2016 6:37 pm

The big city. Peter had never been to New York City before, but here he was standing in the middle of Time Square staring blankly at the massive screens that seemed to cover every inch of the buildings around him. It was pretty late in the night--when he last checked the time, his phone said 11:30 pm-- but he was still busy exploring. This was the first time since he had been taken into Argona's forces that he was able to do something on his own, and it was nice. After being trapped in that place for so long going through a lot of intense training, he was glad to get away for a while. Sure, he probably had some kind of job to do, but he would only know what it was when he arrived at his hotel, so he didn't go. It just sucked that Scarlett could take him back as soon as she felt like it. Such is the life of a slave and a failure. No one let him forget that part of his life. Everyone seemed to know exactly where Peter came from and who he used to be and they taunted him with it, calling him a failure of a Beata student. Not that he could remember his past at the school anyway. After months of being contained elsewhere, what was left of those memories had faded and all Peter could remember was what the outside of the school looked like and a couple of faces from the staff. To add onto that, for the months he had been with Argona, all he had heard was how much of a threat the school was and how bad it had the potential of being. Peter couldn't really understand it and didn't really know what to believe but there was no one around to tell him it wasn't bad. What was the school planning? They must have had some secrets they were keeping if Argona wanted to get rid of it. Plus, he heard the students were terrible.

With a heavy sigh, the blonde walked over to the bleachers that stood in the middle of the square just in front of the Coca-Cola sign, wrapping his jacket around him tight while his headphones hung around his neck. He tried his best to ignore the picketers screaming about needing Jesus and legalizing the newest drug and just take in the rest of the sights around the big city while putting off his job as long as possible. It was a simple task, but he wanted to stay here as long as he could, so he avoided his hotel that was just a few blocks down at all costs. They wouldn't start getting angry at him until the next morning anyway, so why rush? He smiled at the people who walked by only to get weird stares in return, but that didn't matter. Pulling his hands out of his pockets, he placed them behind his head and stretched. "It's such a lovely night!" he said to no one in particular.

Unlike Peter, Jonathan was here in New York for a mission, just the usual gifted student needed guidance and he needed to be around to suppress their powers. This time, he'd been reassured multiple times that it wouldn't blow up in his face, that no surprise gifted people where going to crush him to pieces and leave him a hollow shell of himself. He didn't really believe the staff, no mission was without it's risks, but he wanted to get out there. He wanted to get pass this crippling fear that overwhelmed him the moment he took one step outside school grounds. So he took it, and it was nice. He saved the girl, for once, and he was free to explore the city until his flight home tomorrow.

This was how his mission with Mel should have gone. It still ached when he thought of her, how full of life she was. She deserved better.

Lost in thought, the by wandered through time square, his noise-cancelling headphones were on, though they weren't playing anything. He just needed the muffled hum of the city and the brights lights around to entertain him as he ambled along. It was his first time in New York, his mother's practice was down in Cali, he'd never been here before so it was a novelty in it's own way. He only wished he didn't feel so damn out of it, but that was life. Absently tapping a beat to his leg with his long fingers, he looked around at the masses marching by when he noticed him.

A blonde boy. Nothing about him was particularly noteworthy. There were plenty of other blonde guys in New York. In fact, there were plenty of blonde guys in America. Jonathan had no reason to notice that guy in particular. He'd seen better. But there was something about him. 'Was it the face? The hair?' that drew his attention. He couldn't look away, it felt like he knew him, but he couldn't put name to face. "Hey! Mate!" Jonathan called out from across the other side of square, waving to catch his attention while half jogging and running over to the guy. "Hey. Have we met before?"

At first, Peter heard the guy but didnt' think he was talking to him until the voice grew closer and was aimed in his direction. Pulling his hands down and stuffing them into his pockets once more, Peter glanced over to see who could possibly be talking to him when he noticed the pink-haired boy jogging towards him. That was curious. How in the world could he have met someone in New York? He hadn't been here long enough to run into anyone, let alone to actually see them again. The blonde narrowed his eyes for a moment as he watched the boy run towards him but quickly replaced it with a smile. He looked cute enough. Might as well start up a conversation. "If it's me you're talking to, I don't think so," he replied, not really bothering to stand up from his seat on the bleachers. "I haven't been here long. Maybe you meant someone else? I'm still happy to have the company if you want to join me." he said with a hint of playfulness. It sounded weird as soon as he said it, but it was already done. Couldn't take it back now.

Something wasn't quite right about his face, or maybe that was him just being stupid and tired. Jonathan could never tell, but the boy's face looked so damn familiar yet foreign now that he was close enough to look properly. Where could they have met? It wasn't like Jonathan was regularly hanging out in New York, the only place in America he'd visited outside of Beata was Los Angeles to visit his mother when he was ten. Focused on figuring out this puzzle, he nearly missed what the blond said.

Maybe he really was just out of it, the other boy didn't look upset at this intrusion (which was a plus), but there was no spark of recognition from him. He went through the same thought process as Peter, realising that he'd started a conversation with a complete stranger, and deciding to roll with it. Blondie wasn't shabby in the looks department, talking to him would hardly be a chore. "You're probably right, but sure. If you're free, I've got all night. I'm Jonathan, by the way. Who am I getting the pleasure of knowing?" He said this all with an easy smile as he sat down on the bleachers next to the guy, any niggling concerns were firmly locked up and away.

"Peter," he replied simply, leaning back against the seat behind him, stretching his arms out to get more comfortable. There wasn't much to say after that, but it was nice not being alone at the moment. At least this guy was nice enough to stop by and say two words to him. Peter had found out the hard way that New York City wasn't the nicest place around and that he'd more likely get shot on the street than have someone stop and say at least 'hey' to him. "I've basically got all night myself. I'm supposed to be somewhere, but I'm just not feeling it right now." He smiled as he closed his eyes for a moment, just feeling the air around him as he tried to relax and just enjoy himself. It had been so long since he was able to do what he wanted, so he was going to take advantage of it.

"So what are you doing here in the big city?" He asked after a few moments of silence. "You don't seem to be someone who lives here." It was honestly just a wild guess. Peter really had no idea if the guy lived here or not, but just judging by the way he held himself and talked, the boy had a gut feeling that Jonathan lived elsewhere.
