An Unexpected Loss [Coon/Ice]

Chris walked through the forest, not really doing much or thinking about anything. He came out here to clear his head. Lately, memories of his father had been surfacing themselves no matter how hard he pushed them down. He walked through the trees with his hands in the pockets of his coat. he stopped in front of a tree and pressed his hand to the bark, ice instantly spreading around the tree. He was getting good at this. He had been doing this every few trees or so in case he got lost and needed to find a way out. He still didn't know the forest well, even though he had been at Beata for awhile. But then again, he didn't wander into the forest all that often either. Another few trees went by and he pressed his hand to the tree, creating a marker of sorts. He was getting pretty deep into the forest, although he knew he was going to have to turn around eventually. He was also mildly surprised he hadn't been followed yet, as it seemed there were students around every corner.

Its not that he was being followed he was going to run into another student eventually. A certain spring wasn't too far ahead of him. She had been studying how her gift seemed to take to disintegrating trees again. It had seemed to her since the last time she had done this, the time it had taken had been less, even if it had bee only by a minute. She wasn't too sure on the official time, but she knew for certain that it was faster. Her amber eyes watched the tree as cracks worked their way from the spot she had touched. Her attention turned to some plants being disturbed and the shuffling of feet. She frowned wondering what it was, and then a smile appeared when she saw it was another student. "Oh hello!" She said happily, before turning back to the tree.

She didn't know why she was wandering into the forest, but Maria had a feeling something exciting would happen today. She had been in the forest before and even though everything looked the same, she remembered some noticeable landmarks. Nowhere in Beata ever lacked students, and she assumed she would run into someone sooner than later. Sure enough, after about ten minutes of walking around, she spotted a guy and a girl whom she swore she recognized.

"Nice day for a stroll in the forest." She said in a teasing tone, walking up behind the two. "Guess we all had the same idea." The taller student looked from Sophia to Chris.

Chris waved at the girl in front of him. "Hello!" he said brightly. It wasn't long after he approached the girl that he noticed the cracks on the tree that were rapidly getting larger. The girl must be practicing her gift, like he was. He watched the tree, fascinated. "Is this you? Are you doing this?" he asked her, right as the taller girl was approaching. "Seems that way." he told her, nodding his head. It really was a nice day, not too hot, not too cold. But it was always cold to Chris so how would he know.

Sophia folded her hands behind her back as she continued to watched the tree. She glanced over to Maria as she approached. The spring decided to give the girl a friendly greeting as well. "Hey!" Her amber eyes returning to the tree. Her hands fell back to her sides as she excitedly watched the tree. "It is a nice day." She commented. The tree was almost fully cracked, soon enough it will fall to dust. It was still pretty sturdy, but as soon as the cracks spread fully it wouldn't be but a few seconds before it fell to a pile of dust. "And yes this is my doing. It's my gift."

Apparently, these two little rays of sunshine need some clouds to darken the day. "So, Iceman. How goes training your power?" Maria crossed her arms and leaned against a tree. "Disintegrating trees? Won't all those nature lovers come after you with pitchforks if they find out?" There was a hint of boredom in her tone. Her hunch about something exciting happening was partially going down the drain. Just be patient. The fun hasn't even started yet.

"Wow, that's really cool!" he told Sophia. Chris rolled his eyes at Maria but didn't say anything rude. "My training is doing just fine. And don't call me Iceman." For some reason the name Iceman bugged him. It reminded him of the constant cold he felt. He was also slightly confused how Maria knew he was training with his powers. But again, he didn't say anything about it.

Sophia just continued to watch the tree. She let out a small hum before answering Maria. "They could, but I don't think that would be a good idea to threaten me." She said gesturing to the tree, and just as she did so the tree fell to dust with a small whoosh. A small cloud of dust had spread until it was gone. Where the tree was before was a small pile of dust that came up to about the middle of Sophia's shins. "Nice. Thirteen minutes, that's pretty good for a tree that size." She hummed in slight happiness at that result.

Maria gave a yawn listening to the two. "Sorry, but the name suits you well." She said bluntly. Glancing over to the tree, it was soon a pile of dust. Hmm, wonder what her gift is... It couldn't just be disintegration, could it? Would the school even allow someone that dangerous?

"Still, don't call me that." he said, looking at the pile of dust that used to be a tree. He marveled at the fact one gift can do something like that. "Your gift is so cool." he told the shorter girl.

Sophia shrugged. "It's not that cool. It's pretty dangerous." She looked down her hand, seeing the cracks that had worked their way down to her wrist already. Well she still had a while before she would have to give up her little bit of training she was doing, but she already found out what she wanted to find out. She held up her hand, showing him the cracks in it. "See what I mean? I'm not going to fall apart, but it's still pretty bad that my gift recoils." She frowned.

Dangerous? Well that answered all her questions. Oh the wonderful days of when her gift recoiled. She'd been kicked out of the house for doing so, a time in her life she would never forget. The older student stood there, watching the two half annoyed half amused.

Chris tilted his head in confusion. He reached out with his right hand, grabbing one of her hands to get a better look. He brought the hand a little closer to get a better look. To his surprise, there were actually cracks along her hand, reaching up to her wrist. "Jeez, you weren't kidding." he said to her.

Due to Sophia's lack of attention on the situation at hand, her gift acted on it's own. As soon as her mind focus on the touch on her hand, she looked over, and saw the growing cracks on her own hand, which told her that her gift had activated. She instantly yanked her hand away with a look of fear on her face, as the recoil spread up her whole arm, and onto her chest, and face. Eyes wide with terror, she looked at the boys hand only to see small cracks forming on his hand. She couldn't do anything now, and Logan wasn't here to counteract her gift. Oh no.. Oh no... oh no oh no oh no... Her hands reached up, and gripped tightly at her head, tears streaming down her face. "I'm sorry... Nothing can stop that.." She basically sentenced someone to die, because she was careless.

Maria watched with interest as the careless boy grabbed the girls arm. You idiot. She knew something bad was going to happen, just what she wanted. Leaning froward to see what would happen, it was clear the girl was panicking. Taking a step forward, even more curious than before, she got a glimpse of the boy's hand. "Well, that can't be good." She dared to say aloud, a small sarcastic grin on her face.
