Flaws of the Gift

Robert sat on the bench out in the lovely nature that was the courtyard. It was friday evening, the weather was still as cool as ever, but at least there wasn't much wind today. It being friday, Rob wasn't in his uniform anymore. He traded the boring stiff uniform, with his usual jeans and a hoodie. His hand sat in the pocket of his hoodie as he sat back looking up at the sky above him. He shifted his position slightly causing the phone that was sitting on his leg to fall off and onto the ground. He didn't even react, or remove his eyes from the sky. Pulling his hand out of his pocket, he held it out like he was expecting someone to give him something. Soon enough he used his gift, and his phone floated up, and landed in his hand.

Once he felt his phone touch his hand, his hand curled up around it, and he shoved both of them back into the pocket of his hoodie. Shortly after the initiate started feeling drowsy and closed his eyes to doze off for a moment, but something kept him awake.

Brant had been strolling around the courtyard, trying to find something to do. There was always hang out with Destiny but he felt like he almost always did that. Shoot, he loved her like crazy but even he needed some 'me' time. He couldn't always be adorable, he had to recharge at some point. His green eyes flickered around when he spotted somebody sitting on a bench, wearing jeans and a hoodie. In a second Brant was jealous as he was still wearing his uniform, wishing he had bothered to change clothes.

Blah, whatever. He did however manged to spot the phone float back to the person's hand before stuffing it into his pocket. A soft whistle escaped Brant's lips. Now that was impressive. He took a wild guess that it was the student's gift - really Brant shouldn't have even been surprised to see the phone float seeing how his girlfriend could raise and control the dead. This school was all kinds of wacky. He made his way toward the student, blinking once when he saw the eye patch. What was he, a pirate?...He didn't dare say that out loud. "Nice trick," he stated instead with a small nod of approval.

An eye patch? Erin had never actually seen anyone seriously wear an eye patch before, but here this kid was, sitting on the bench with an eye patch. Not that it really mattered. She personally thought it was awesome. She hadn't even noticed until she walked around the courtyard a couple of times taking in the sights and sounds of the outside. This was her second favorite spot behind the forest. All of the plants were gorgeous and even in the winter when snow covered every inch of the ground, it glistened in the light, making it just as pretty as its green counterpart.

Snuggled in her thick coat and dark green scarf that matched her eyes, she watched the boy from afar for a few moments. She was just about to get bored and move on with her life until she suddenly noticed the floating phone and then another boy walk up and comment on it. How in the world did he do that? Was that his power? Did he really just make his phone float? With a sudden new excitement, she skipped over to the two boys, her wild red hair bouncing around her face until she stopped just a few feet away. Her eyes beaming with excitement, she couldn't help but stand in awe at what she just saw. "That was amazing!" she said, clasping her glove-covered hands together in front of her. "How'd you do it?" Erin was definitely blunt and to the point. She was curious. Why not ask?

As soon as he heard the voices, his eye snapped open. Any fatigue left for the moment, but he knew it would return soon. His green eye looked up at the boy who had whistled, and then to the girl who had asked about his gift. A lazy smile appeared on his face. "Well it's not really a trick. It's my gift. Which is telekinesis." He said, trying to keep up a friendly attitude. A yawn escaped him soon after he was done speaking, there was the fatigue he knew would return. "I'm Rob by the way."

"Mhmmm....I figured it was your gift, but it was cool none-the-less," Brant said with a soft shrug, before glancing at the girl that had come up. He gave her a smile and a nod as a greeting - finding it a bit amusing that she had red hair and green eyes much like himself. What were the chances? "I'm Brant, its nice to meet you," he said toward both of them, stuffing his hands into his pockets.

"Telekinesis?" She repeated, looking at Robert in wonder. "So you can control anything?" Of course he could. That's what that power was about, but she'd never met anyone before who could actually do that. She'd seen it on tv and read it in a couple of books, but that was about it. Telekinesis was like... the super power of all powers. At least in her mind it was. After looking a bit too excited to learn about Robert's gift, she blinked a couple of times and mentally shook herself to get her act together. "Um, Erin. It's a pleasure!" The Irish girl smiled, a rosy color surfacing in her cheeks.

Rob looked around at the two people before him. They all had red hair of some kind, and they all had green eyes of some kind. This was weird, but being the lazy person he was he shrugged it off. "It's nice to meet the both of you." He said calmly. When the girl asked about being able to control anything he had to think for a moment. All he had been able to do was move objects basically.. That was just about anything so he would have to sort of agree. Reaching out with his gift, he picked up the girl, and made her float a few inches off the ground before putting her down again. "Yeah I would say just about anything." He said with a slight smirk on his face, but it was hidden in his lazy smile.

Rob, Erin and Brant; three red-headed, green-eyed gifted students that had just manged to run into each other. What were the chances? The whole thing just amused him to no end, but he did his best to not laugh. He had been distracted that when he noticed that Erin was floating for a few seconds, it caused him to take a step back before Rob set her down again. "That is cool," he breathed in awe, a bit jealous seeing how his gift was so limited. "I wish I could do things like that."

It was one of the weirdest things that Erin had ever felt. Within seconds, she felt weightless but at the same time, it felt like something was gripping her tight, wrapping around her and almost squeezing the life out of as her feet were lifted off the ground and she simply floated. With her breath caught in her throat and eyes wide, she couldn't even begin to know how to react until she was set gently back on the ground. Even then, she was left in a slight stupor. After taking a moment to recuperate, she glanced over at Brant with a look that just seemed to say 'are you serious?' but as she was able to calm down, she did so with a smile on her face. With a nervous laugh, she looked back at Rob. "Yeah, I uh.. neat trick! Please... don't do that again." She really didn't care to be surprised like that, but she wasn't going to be a killjoy and ruin their fun.

Rob shrugged, and then said "Sorry.." He should have asked first but he wanted to show off the little he could do with his gift. He could really only move objects so far. From what he had read about the power there was so much he could do, but what if his was really limited? Eh he was fine with just moving things. It allowed him to be lazy.

As he was lost in thought he didn't even realize he had drifted off to sleep. It only took him a moment to wake up again. It didn't seem much time had passed, the other two were still there so it was only a moment maybe. "Oh whoops."

Brant couldn't help but chuckle when Erin asked Rob to not do that again, easily understanding why she wouldn't have liked it. Having your feet on the ground was a nice feeling after all. He soon raised an eyebrow when Rob soon apologized a few moments later, confusing him on what he was saying 'whoop' about. Eh, it really didn't matter. He glanced between the two, giving them both a smile. "So, we know what your power is," he said directed at Rob before turning to look at Erin. "How about you? What is your gift?" Ah, the age-old Beata common greeting - asking one another what their gift was.

Erin simply waved Rob off with her hand and a smile before Brant's question caught her attention. With a mixed look of worry, horror and embarrassment, her gaze quickly dropped to the ground but she tried to play it off real cool, tucking her wild hair behind her ear. Reaching across her body and grabbing her right arm with her left hand, she laughed nervously. "Oh, it's nothing special," she said, trying to avoid the subject. Everyone so far give or take a few students were always creeped out by what she could do so why share it? She wanted to make friends, not scare people away.

Rob looked up at the girl with his green eye. "Of course it's something special. I mean we are all kind of special being here, and especially with the gift thing." He was kind of curious as to what the two students could do. A hand reached up and adjusted his eye path slightly. It was starting to irritate him slightly. It always did if he let it sit in a certain spot for too long, but he was more used to the thing than he was a while ago.

Brant was a little sad that Erin wasn't willing to tell them her gift, before nodding along to what Rob said. It was true, each of them was special in their own way. Brant was a firebreather who was dating a necomancer...Rob was a telekinetic with an awesome eyepatch. Like, seriously. The eyepatch was pretty awesome. Brant gave Erin a charming (at least he hoped it was charming) smile as he turned back to look at her. "I'm a firebreather myself," he said with a proud puff, letting a small flicker of flame leave his mouth as if to prove his point. He was totally getting better at the controlling it.

Erin's cheeks flushed as the two tried to pep talk her. She really didn't know if she should say, but they were so confident in their powers, maybe she could share hers. Well, tell them about it, that is. When she heard Brant talk about his own powers, she looked up just in time to see fire leave his mouth. Almost instantly, her expression turned from embarrassment to marveling at what he just did. "That's awesome!" she exclaimed, almost mesmerized by how he could possibly do that. But after both of them quieted down for a moment, Erin clammed up again before taking a deep breath. It couldn't hurt. They both seemed pretty cool. "I can... possess things," she muttered as she looked down and kicked at the ground.
