PostSubject: Cakes, Tea, and Coffee [OPEN]   Wed Jul 29, 2015 2:36 am

Jonathan waited behind the counter of the cafe, looking over at the mostly empty café. The lunch time/post lunch time rush was over, and now customers slowly trickled in, one or two at a time. He relaxed against the counter in standard uniform, black slacks with a crisp white shirt, and naturally, an apron. The apron had the café's name on it in bold, and it completed the barista ensemble, though Jonathan knew next to nothing about making coffee. He did however know how to smile brilliantly, look amazing, and take complicated orders without forgetting a single item. Also he knew the names of the cakes, but that was mainly from café dates and having to pick a cake to share. But he still got the job, and Patty seemed to like him. So he was pretty comfortable working here, after all, it was nice to spend time outside school. And cafés were where all the cute girls were at.

But his little break was cut short when the bell on the door tinkled signalling a new customer. Straightening out his apron, he got up from against the metal bench to take his place at the counter.

"Hello, welcome to Rosebury's Café. Can I take your order?"

His day was just starting, he didn't have much to do. No friends, no one too chat with, no one around - he didn't even know what too do besides kill time by reading some books in the biggest library he has ever seen before. Oliver had loved books, he just loved information - his power wasn't something that he would be able to defend himself with but he had a talent at strategies. The brown haired boy had a small frown on his face, he already had met his brother Jonathan - and he was a bit surprised to find out that his brother had a job at a cafe. Working wasn't really Jonathan's style, but who knows maybe he changed it'd been awhile since Oliver saw Jonathan. Although the two had a bounty-full of great memories, they were close although the two didn't have the best relationship as a family.

Divorce rates were high, and of corse Jonathan and Oliver's parent's ended up splitting up - Jonathan wen't too Australia while Oliver was stuck in the United states. They saw each other every summer though so it wasn't that bad, not seeing you're brothers face for awhile sure was nice. Oliver had swung the door open to the cafe, his dark brown hair was slightly soaked from the rainfalls that were currently happening. The boy simply blinked when he saw Jonathan wearing that uniform and greeting people with a smile, it was laughable and Oliver just couldn't help but chuckle.

"Ohhh pleaseeee doo." The boy had said with a crooked grin, finding it quite quite funny too see Jonathan like this.

The instant he saw brown hair and violet eyes, his sugared smile dropped like a hot potato, quickly to be replaced by a more real cheshire cat like grin. The one he sparingly used, considering he found most people interesting yet not really worth his time in any meaningful way. Though the pair had grown up apart, there was undeniable affection between the two. Oliver was different to him in many ways, blunt and relaxed, while Jonathan had a tendency to be deceptive and tenacious. But rather than antagonise each other, to him at least, Jonathan felt it complimented each other. Oliver could see through his bullshit, so to speak, pardon his french, while Jonathan didn't feel like he had to pry apart everything his brother said, knowing he spoke the truth. Which was why, though many thought he'd hate it, he was glad to have Oliver join him here.

"Anyone lost a small child? I think it's time for his daily nap." Jonathan called out to the empty cafe, not bothering to address the younger boy deliberately. He cupped his hands around his mouth and repeated the statement. And when the timing was right, his hands snapped out to ruffle his brother's wet hair. Though he ended up regretting it when his hands got wet. "Here. Dry up before you catch a cold. You know I have terrible bedside manners. You don't want me to nurse you back to health." Jonathan tossed him a clean tea towel, deliberately aiming for the face. "Do you want a drink? Babyccino?"

Using his hands to move some of his soaked bangs out of the way so water wouldn't drip into his eyes. Oliver glanced around the Cafe, it left a good impression, it was nice clean and not so cramped unlike the cafes back in the United States. That grin Jonathan had was one that Oliver was all to familiar with, it usually disgusted him since his brother was quite the flirt whenever he had came to Austrilla he was always hanging out with girls he didn't remember seeing any guy friends at all, completely pitiful. The boy had sighed, glancing away from the pink-haired boy and took a seat at one of the tables. Placing his hand on the table and pressing it against his cheek, Oliver didn't want to be sent to beata in all honesty. He didn't know his gift for along time unlike his brother who discovered his right away, Oliver had thought he was the normal one and didn't have a special gift. But of corse he eventually found his gift after all, he was 13 at the time so it was only a few years ago and man was he angry. He didn't want a gift and especially didn't want too leave home and have to go to some school with a bunch of freaks like him. When Jonathan first discovered his power, Oliver was completely freaked didn't talk to his brother for a bit didn't even come to Austrilla for a bit too.

Although in the end here he was, sitting in the cafe talking with his brother that he thought was a freak show. When actually Oliver was the exact same just like everyone in this school. Violet eyes blinked when he said something his brows furrowing with confusion and irritation. "You've become crazier over the years, Jonathan." his brother said with a scoff Before rolling his eyes at him. "Picked a lousy place to work at too." The intiate had said glancing around the empty cafe all the tables were wiped down and cleaned and all the chairs all pushed in nearly. it looked like they didn't get a single customer for a few hours now.

Oliver was completely startled when Jonathan had played with his hair, he attempted to smack his hands away but closed his eyes trying to calm down when he had stopped himself. It looks like nothing has changed with Jonathan over the years, The boy had placed both his hands on the table wrapping his fingers around each other. An arm had quickly snapped out as he caught the towel with his right arm. Using it too dry of his hair quickly,"You haven't changed at all have you?" Oliver had muttered a small smile creasing onto his lips. Before answering his brother, "I don't care what I drink as long as you didn't make it."

Guessing Oliver was commenting about the lack of café patrons, Jonathan clarified. "I prefer the lull. Less mess, less stress." It was always busier at lunch hour, but with the weather, it seemed unlikely anyone would come today. Something about rain that made people unwilling to leave their houses, not that he blamed them. But with less to do, he could afford to chill with his brother, so it was all well.

"Did you expect me to? It's only been what? Six months, Olly?" The winter spoke teasingly, getting milk from the fridges underneath the counter. While his brother had made it clear he didn't trust his cooking abilities, with no one else around, the only thing to drink was something he made. So he made the easiest drink possible. Hot chocolate.

While he steamed the milk, his eyes roamed over at the changes that had occurred with his brother over these six months. The boy, unfortunately, still seemed uncomfortable around him. It had been a few years since they both found out that he had powers, and since then, Oliver had found out he had powers as well. Personally, the older boy didn't get the fear and mistrust the brown haired boy festered towards him, especially since his powers were unseeable and had no real negative or dangerous consequences. But it seemed old, oddly ingrained prejudices were unlikely to go away anytime soon. All he could do was make a drink, and hope with time, Oliver would be won over.

"Here, drink. Hot chocolate, on the house." Seeing as no one else was around, he joined his brother at the table. "What do you think of Beata? Meet anyone interesting?"

Less stress huh? Oliver was always the laid-back type he never liked doing hard work. Leaning back in his chair the brown haired boy used the towel too dry out his hair more before holding it in his arm and letting it hang down to the ground. His bangs had covered his eyes and he didnt bother looking at Jonathan for a few moments. "What are your hours?" He asked in a normal tone before sitting straight up again looking out the window as the rain fell. Oliver never really liked the rain it left him drenched and cold and it almost never rained back where he lived. Oh well it was another thing too get used too Oliver glanced around the Cafe his violet eyes shifting as he caught a glimpse of Jonathans pink hair. "You the only one who works here? " He called out his purple eyes seemed tired since he was still on a different timezone.

His gaze shifted upwards it was Olivers habbit he always looked up when he was thinking hard about something or was lost in thought. "I expected you to mature a bit more." The intinate said with a small shrug, wondering if he seemed different in Jonathans eyes. His violet pupils narrowed and his hand quickly turned into a fist, he hated that nickname -- Olly what a weird name it was embarrassing. His ears had turned red and he quickly stood up from his seat "I thought I told you not to call me that!" The boy said anger clear in his tone before he cleared his throat calming down and sitting back on his chair.

An eyebrow narrowed as Jonathan had came over bringing along the drink, steam was visible since it was freshly made and it smelt good but... "Did you make this?" He asked pretty straightforwadly but sighed. His eyes closed, he clasped the cup with his fingers and placed it to his lips. Taking a few long gulps before he had set it back down, and answering Jonathans question. "Its fine. " He said bluntly taking another sip before he answered his next question. "No didnt meet anyone."

He tapped his chin with his fingers while thinking about Oliver's questions. "Well weekends mainly. I work with a couple of other girls from school. Aspen and Lamia. Cute girls, I think one of them is the same age as you." His eyebrows wiggled suggestively, a subtle hint that maybe Oliver could get his head out of his books and find a girl. Messy brown hair, and violet eyes. His brother had the family looks, pretty yet undeniably masculine. He was mystified why the boy hadn't found himself a girlfriend yet ever, and as his older brother, he couldn't help feel like he needed to give the boy a little push. "The owner is out picking up supplies, she'll be back soon. Even on slow days, you need at least two people around."

He reached out and took the wet towel, hanging over a wood chair's back. Laughing at both his brother's comment about his maturity and overreaction to that little pet nickname. He knew it wasn't being the mature older brother that Oliver seemed to want from him, but he was who he was. Jonathan Christopher Kent couldn't help rub that little name in a bit more, while strategically, ducking out of reach via getting up to get a cake. "Tut, tut. Olly, olephant. Don't be so cranky, Santa won't bring you any presents this year if you're naughty."

From the relevant safety of behind the counter, he answered his brother's query about the drink. "Yep, and it involved the difficult task of heating milk and adding powder." The winter chose a cake for his brother, a peace offering of sorts. He knew that Olly, for some reason he'd really never bothered to understand, was a sore point. He didn't plan on bring it up again, guessing there was only so much the boy could handle. It had been a while since the two of them actually spent time together, though personally Jonathan chalked that up to Oliver's oversensitivity about 'having powers'.
