Practice [Open] Empty
PostSubject: Practice [Open]   Practice [Open] EmptySun Aug 03, 2014 8:39 pm

A young man sat at the edge of the empty classroom, a chair pulled up to the window. It was the early afternoon, with the midday sun shining on the boy. Class had ended a few minutes ago, and the Spring student had no other places he needed to go.

Instead of hanging out with the other students, he had decided to stay and practice his still weak gift. At the base of the windowsill was a small glass box, filled with fog. Inside, not that anyone else could see it at all, was an object that the student was trying to figure out. His test was to describe the object, and thus see through the fogged container.

"What are you..?" Rhett muttered under his breath. It seemed to be a small brownish black quadruped animal. Frowning, he tipped the box slightly, causing the animal to fall over. Luckily it was fake. Annoyed, he flipped the box until the creature was standing up straight again. With him so focused on his task, someone could easily be behind him without his knowing.

"I think it's a box." The teasing voice came from behind the boy, emitted from the lips of a smiling purple-haired girl. Ashleigh meandered over and stood next to the boy, looking at the box that he had just flipped back up, having nothing really better to do. School was thankfully over, but it wasn't like she had any plans, so she had just been wandering down a hall when she saw him staring at a box. Now there was something to do. "Yup, definitely a box. What are we guessing next?" She tilted her head towards him and gave a teasing grin, laying a hand on her hip as if waiting for an actual response.

Glancing next to him in response to the voice, Rhett was surprised to see a student with strikingly purple hair speaking to him. Chuckling at her words, he held the case up to the light. Now the thing cast a blurry shadow above the windowsill.

It was much clearer to him now, and he smiled at the now identified animal in his little box. The fog inside seemed to thin for him, and he tapped at its muzzle gently with the tip of his finger. “A little workhorse,” the blonde said before opening the horse’s box. The fog drifted away, leaving what was indeed a small black Clydesdale. He placed it right beside the window, and turned back to the girl beside him.

How many fish are in the lake?” Rhett smirked jokingly.

Ashleigh looked more at the foggy box with interest, until it dissapated, leaving a tiny horse inside it. Maybe he was just guessing what was inside the box... though she figured he had just put it in there himself. That sounded like the easiest guessing game ever.

How many fish were in the lake? Well, she hadn't jumped in and checked lately. Then she remembered a response her brother would always use with things like this. He had always sounded so snarky when he said it, but it wasn't like she couldn't borrow it when he wasn't here. "N. There are n amount of fish in the lake." She laughed as she said it; of course her brother would say things like that. It made him sound smart without actually being smart.

She then turned her attention to the box, now empty without the fog or the horse. "How come you filled this box with fog? Are you trying to hide toy animals?"

He laughed at her answer. Since he had never met her brother, nor knew she had one, he assumed it to be original. Since the box was still in his hands, he played with the metal clasp between his fingers. Rhett glanced towards the little creature, which would probably grow hot in the afternoon sun.

The Spring student chuckled at her questions. "No, I can't do that. At least, not yet." As an example, he attempted to create a bit of fog, resulting in a tiny cloud about as big as a pinky nail. In the next second, it was gone. His father had been the expert with making obstructions, able to fill an entire theatre with smoke with little effort. It was only too bad that everyone else thought it was the effects of a fire.

"I think a student was made to catch mist from early this morning," he said, grinning at the image of some kid running around at seven in the morning, trying to catch fog.

Ashleigh watched the student conjure up a tiny bit of fog, fascinated all the same by his abilities, even if it wasn't fully formed. "So you can create fog? That's cool. Too bad for that mist catcher though. Can you even catch mist, really?" She rattled off words rapidly, looking back towards the windowsill and at the horse. Moving closer to it, she extended her arm and gently touched the animal.

"Do you just come here to practice by yourself?" That didn't seem right, though maybe he wanted to be alone while practicing. Well, she was already there, so that ideal was out the window. It was more fun to train with more people anyway!

"Yes, I can see through it too," Rhett responded. "Probably not, but it's funny to imagine it." He watched as she touched the tiny horse. Studying the little equine, he noticed it wasn't made of plastic. Instead, he assumed it to be iron painted over, judging by the faint smell of metal as it grew warm.

"This was my last class, so everyone else left around me. I've been working on the seeing-through part more than the creating part," he said, making a black wisp of smoke. Realizing there were smoke alarms, he quickly waved it away into nonexistence. Crisis averted.

"Well, I guess it doesn't hurt to practice in an air conditioned room, huh?" She smirked and stepped away from the window, standing and facing him now with a girlish smile on her face. "So eventually you'll be able to make great getaways with that fog."

Bouncing up and down on her toes, she tapped a finger on her chin thoughtfully before continuing, "I bet I could catch a lot more morning mist than anyone at this school." It wasn't really an idle boast, considering how she could run for-basically-ever without breaking a sweat.
